These are amazing! I saw some of them before, but never the earliest 2 stages. Where did you find these?

 

Cancelled my preorder at BBTS and am picking it up at Amazon JP for $50 cheaper.

 

Man I cant for the life of me find it But Galvatron and Scourge had that exact look, and they both looked exactly like their toy counterpart. Ill see if I can remember where I found these drawings.

Yeah I believe so too. It was the first instance in Transformers of character designs not being based on toys.

 

They were all in on the zombie idea for Unicron's reformatting initially, weren't they?!

Interesting to see Galvatron go from orange cannon to grey and back, too. I'm guessing they wanted to mimic Megatron, then because the toy was based on the earlier design they flipped back to orange. Doesn't seem to hold true on the purple redesigned body, but hey...

Yeah (this time I'm sure I'm right   ), Dery did his designs totally from scratch, which were then given to Hasbro to design the toys from.

I think I read that Hasbro had trouble at first trying to design their own transforming toys, so they got help from Takara again for the first few waves.

 

Pleebs from the get-go even after apprenticing under the masters eh? Pathetic.  

 

I'm very intrigued to see the way Takara will handle how Galvatron's chest "becomes" grey in the alt mode, if it ever happens.

 

...the decline in design quality as they took over was precipitous; i contend that hasbro corporate pulling toy design, character design, and related fiction away from outsourced parties which established the franchise is also what killed the franchise...

 

Haha yup. I'm trying to find the interview where this was stated but I think it was one of the bonus features on the series DVDs (or maybe the Movie Blu-Ray).

 

I feel like you can track the progress of Hasbro getting tired of figuring out transformations as the line progresses. The ‘Masters’ still have transformations but simplified. Then Pretenders basically all fold their legs up and squish into a non transforming shell. Then eventually Hasbro checks out entirely and goes full Action Master.

 

Same with bombshell. Can’t see them doing the Badcube way.

 

I can potentially see some sort of Sunstreaker situation where the part flips up and around with a slightly different shape for the robot chest.

 

So like the old warp digivolving guilmon to Gallantmon toys' shoulder armor?
