Right, I think that's because on Meg's right leg the inner swivel joint is dropped down (whereas the left thigh is not). You can achieve a similar effect with NA's v2 legs:

Here the right thigh is dropped down on the inner swivel joint (unlike the left thigh), and so can be swung out almost 90 degree without raising the waist flap.

Ok I see that too yes. I guess my question boils down to: does MS have a waist flap? The picture makes it look like not? That's the part that looks off to me.

This was an enjoyable exchange nonetheless, thanks for indulging me. Now to find something else to do for the rest of the day...

I have to be honest. I own him and dislike him. Looking forward to MS Megs.

They did their Optimus at MP scale and it was a wonderful figure so I don't see why not.

i don't think there's a waist flap, and from the prototype photos of the figure sitting down, it looks like they are using the ab crunch to help facilitate seating positions.

never liked waist flaps, it always makes toys look like they’re wearing mini skirts

I was always fine with them until we started seeing more and more designs eschew them in favor of more clever engineering. Now waist flaps bug me, especially when they're on the sides and back as well (though I imagine you can't get away from side flaps on Megatron).

But that looks like the NewAge version, not MS. Look at the abs as well as the back.

    Thanks for this!

The MS Prime has to use his ab crunch rather than the front flap to sit as well. So I wouldn't call that definitive proof that Megs has a non-functional flap. The flap on the front of their Optimus' waist doesn't even really lift up unless you lift up the torso a little to free it.

I guess I'm in for this Megatron. I'm not excited for the figure even though I'm mainly a G1 fan. I'd just rather have tank megs of some description. If only the IF one was just a smidge taller so that MS Prime wasn't looking down on him and I'd skip this guy altogether. That said, I think this one is going to be the best option that scales well with MS Prime and balances looking cohesive from each direction.

well if there is a flap even better, so for those who don't want to use it, they can still pose the figure sitting down without lifting the flap. and for those who rather do that than slouch the waist, they can.

I quite like the other method I've been seeing lately (which I've not yet seen used at this scale) - the waist flap isn't a flap so much as part of the upper leg, and the whole thing rotates as the leg moves, rather than flaps flipping out of the way.

isn’t that more or less how NewAge Jazz works? I think depending on the figure it can work well. It’s harder for me to imagine on a figure like Optimus with his complex waist plate but on Jazz it sure works.

Possibly it would work on Megs as well - not particularly complex design and all black...
