PotP Cindersaur got listed with female pronouns on some of the pack in cards, and male on the others. But isn't that the homage to 2001 RiD Greejeeber? It's the same character? Was Rollbar a girl in RiD? I don't remember.
It is an homage to RID Greejeeber, but no, it's not the same character at all. Just as Adventure Grimlock isn't G1 Grimlock, Adventure Greejeeber isn't Rollbar. Adventure Greejeeber isn't a Combatron and is an occasional partner of Roadblock, a Scoop redeco in G1 constructicon colors who have their own mini-story adventure. Which is sort of interesting, as there's several times the story could've used a gender identifying label, but didn't. Roadblock is identified though, as is his Targetmaster, the unfortunately named Targetmaster, are both dudes. I recall there being conjecture at the time that Takara either couldn't make up their minds or there was a disagreement in the decision making process so they left it ambiguous deliberately so that it could go either way for those who owned Greejeeber.
My view on the gender issue is, these are our toys, most of us have toys from multiple lines and fictions, ultimately we are the ultimate deciders on what our specific toy is. We can say a figure is male or female or neither or whatever. That's not to say I don't want more female molds, I most certainly do, I guess I'm just saying if you want Cindersaur or G1 Novastorm to be female then go for it, nobody has any right to stop you
True that. ”It’s your toy, do what you want with it”. I mean I have Cyber Battallion Megatron as a fembot.
I just don't like seeing established characters (IE: Novastorm) get Genderswapped. It reeks of Marvelisim. I want more girls. Trust me, I of all people want more girls. But if they're going to switch around Legacy characters, just change Megatron and Optimus. It's the same effect.
As far as official figures, I really need a Megatronia... but among my Femcons are TFP FE Starscream (Sliver or WingSheer), studio series helicopter drift with the head from TFP Dlx Airachnid (don't have a name for her but there's no spider-ness so...?), and Cybertron Dark Crumplezone with the goofy gear grin piece removed (had a different name, but she adopted the name "Griddle" after hearing Earth had a device that was "a hot piece of metal that leaves things cooked and flat.")
I'm a firm supporter of the multiverse system because of the freedom it gives creators and fans so to me they're practically different characters. So to continue the example Cyberverse Novastorm is as much a different character to G1 Novastorm as Cyberverse Optimus is in effect a different character to G1 Optimus. I would not actually object to female Megatron and/or Optimus TBH, but I acknowledge that's my personal preference. That said I do agree it's still preferable to have new characters than changing Legacy characters just to fit quotas or whatever. Like I don't mind blind casting in live action adaptations which change a characters' ethnicity (as long as it doesn't negatively impact on the character) but I'm not fond of it being done just to tick a box, especially when there are characters from the source who are of that ethnicity they COULD use. SS Dropkickcopter could make a passable Swift with a headswap and a lick of paint. The copter mode isn't quite the same model but it has a lot of the parts in the same places.
I can confirm that mold does work for Swift, though I used a Dropkick for mine with a sanded-down GDO Springer head. I also have the Drift version waiting to be converted to an Airachnid but I need to get a head and figure out how to spider up the rotor blades.
Generations Arcee and Chromia came yesterday. There are things about Arcee I like better than her Earthrise version, and things about the upcoming toy that I like better. I got this one because BBTS had her in a 2-pack with Chromia (my Siege one's "skirt" broke and I really prefer the Generations one) and I prefer Arcee to not partsform. She has some weird design elements (her midriff is a smidge too human for my liking), but her arsenal makes up for it.
On the "ticking a box," I agree with the line you're drawing between multiverse making the concept of other versions cool and explorable, versus using them as a messy checklist to try and simultaneously reflect every facet of humanity as essentially the same character, like the spamwich all the Spider-people have become.
If I hadnt already used it for Whirl AND BM Obsidian, I would propose using HFTD Tomahawk/ GDO Springer's body for Airachnid OR Swift. For Airachnid, converting it to an Osprey-type with a couple of rotor sets from the deluxe Airachnid could work. But i never thought about SS Dropkick as Swift... I would love some pics! I can't paint worth a damn, so putting the maleficent head on the black helicopter was my easy choice.
...I meant to put Dropkickcopter. Not sure how it turned into Drift when I posted it 0o Nice to know it works though Edit: What's the GDO stand for? I'm curious which Springer you're talking about. Edit: Nevermind, just found it on TFWiki
Here's the thread for it. It looks like the only Swift anyone's posted so far, which is a shame. She's a good character with a cool design and deserves some more attention. Minor/Repaint: - Deluxe-class IDW Swift There are a couple of Airachnids made from Drift that others did, in case you want to check those out. Minor/Repaint: - Airachnid (Generations Style) Minor/Repaint: - Airachnid from Drift
TFP Slipstream with sparkling, squad. Dark Energon and Entertainment pack Starscream look enough like their own characters to make a good all-girl trine with Slipstream.
