My first IF figure arrived today - Mirage. Have Hound on the way with Soundwave on pre-order. TBH I've only picked these 2 up as they look G1 enough for my collection and fit in well with all my NA carbots. Not had a proper mess with him yet, but the build quality seems great - looking forward to Hound arriving now too. :)

    Nice photos.

These guys are great. Hounds transformation is pretty awesome for a legends figure ... and Mirages transformation is off the charts.

MP people would call it “masterpiece moments” (lol); and that’s exactly what a tiny legends figure accomplished (Mirage).

This doesn't actually "fix" the stress, does it? The plastic is still prone to breakage, you just don't see it anymore

Just a few from today... had to be quick as he needed to go back into the box ready for a pending house move. Can't wait to see him with his autobot brethren once we're in the new place...:D

I know that boiling actually loosens the joint/plastic up (worked great on the ankle joint on SS Sentinal Prime, stressed to crap on 1st transformation) . But for IF I've also started taking screwed knee and elbow joints apart, if they are tight, and using 2000 grit sand paper to slightly take off layers, and repeatedly test fitting to make sure I don't make it too loose, then I litely coat with 70w shock oil. Not certain it reduces the cause of the fractures but it definitely frees up the joint, and I don't feel like I'll break anything.

It does take some time and patience, but worth it if it stops a break

no it actually fixes the problem. i should have been a little more clear with my post.

the joints crack for 2 reasons. one is from the pressure from within trying to bust out. the second is IF just happens to have a sprue dead center of the joints most of the time and when the assemblers grind them down. some times they go too far.

when the joints are dry and basically factory tight. the friction puts a strange torque on the joints and they want to snap at the mold line.

but lubing it helps that issue.

the other more detailed method is popping the joints apart and cleaning up the flash that is left.

if you arent familiar with this process it goes like this. you basically take the joint apart look for the nib and cut it off with a xacto knife.

if there is no nib and it is just too tight from paint or the plastic. just rub a small piece of sand paper on the peg to slightly make it smaller. it usually just takes a turn or 2 but always double check as you go. it only takes a thousandths of an inch to make a world of difference.

after that lube it all up reassemble the bot and call it a day.

Just transformed him quickly and it was a fun, intuitive transformation. Simple enough that I could transform him back relatively easily enough without using the instructions too much.

Looking forward to Hound even more now!!:)

Oh yeah. They did an amazing job on Mirage. Both modes look awesome also.

Amazing accomplishment for a legends figure.

how do they scale with the NA carbots? i've been considering IF Mirage and Hound, but feel they are way too big to fit along side.

alternatively i also have MFT sideswipe along side IronTrans datsun carbot trios which is more of a legends+ scale i guess, and i think IF Mirage and Hound in this case would be too small. :(

hmmm… so they MIGHT work with my MFT sideswipe and IronTrans datsuns. IF cliffjumper looks to be about the height of the NA bots, so i guess when i get him, he'll be grouped with MFT/IF carbots. :p

I think I can make that work... I've got TW Wheeljack who is also slightly bigger, but if have them all positioned right then it'll look ok.

Sorry all mine are boxed up.in advance of a house move so can't really take any pictures of them all together. Fortunately @Potchez had you covered...and gave me an idea of how they'd fit too..!!;) :)

Yes sir. Like yours both my elbows are cracked on Heavy Metal and one of them is on my regular Sideswipe as well. On the other molds I have lubed up that joint so it would hopefully prevent it on them.

I don’t suppose anyone is selling Phecda (Vos) separately?

I just snapped the arm off at the elbow joint.

all this talk of stress marks, cracks and now snapped pieces is making me a little nervous. should i be concerned, especially with the recent HeatDeath i bought? it's a very complex figure for it's size with a lot of moving parts using many ball joints and hinges. :(

dont even worry about it. that was mainly about his sideswipe and the elbow joints. the other stuff was for the older releases like dai, blitz and the drifts.

i have no issues with my IF bots or any that i have owned. i think i must have had around 90+ IF bots already. if there were any issues i would not be collecting them still. buy and enjoy them with confidence man.

did you, or are you picking up HeatDeath? it's significantly more delicate due to it's complexity compared to other figures i have. so joints and connections i feel are thinner and/or smaller in comparision. most of my other figures i don't feel any worries about breaking, but this one i do. even the plastic i would say is more hard/brittle in feel. not to say that it is, just the impression i get handling it.
