Anybody heard anything/received a shipping notice for the SSP parts from NY? I mean it's only been 18 days since the official release [including the national holidays] and only 11 and a half months since I paid for them As the dust settles, the DX 1/48 VF1 may be my fave Macross toy. No loose joints on my Max. Yet...doing well, Bandai

Yeah a few Canadians on MW reported receiving theirs before Golden Week because EMS hasn’t been suspended yet.
Nope, still waiting since EMS has been suspended. Longest pre-order I've paid upfront and had to wait for BY FAR. I'm still annoyed that mine didn't ship with the first release in December even though I ordered from day 1. I saw that Toy Dojo has the SSP set for $149.99. Free shipping at $150 so add something else in if you feel the need. It's a bit of a markup but then again considering how it's so hard to get anything shipped from Japan right now, maybe it's not such a bad deal. You'd probably have them in a few days since TD ships fast. Nine available as of this post: https://www.toydojo.com/dx-chogokin-macross-1-48-scale-vf-1-strike-super-parts-set/
AJ is still cheaper shipped than that brother. I love ToyDojo but you’d save $10 or $20 with AJ and get it via DHL. There’s 1 available left with global ship. But if you can keep your eyes on it you can get better prices. I got 4 for the same it better than NY that way.
Yeah I know this isn't the cheapest option right now but it's there so I just figured I'd mention it. I haven't checked AJ in a while but every time I have looked I haven't seen any available for global ship. I haven't been checking very diligently though, in part because my money is tied up at NY now so I just have to wait.
Totally get that. Our time can be worth more than the extra bucks saved trying to hunt AJ or elsewhere
Ended up getting NY to refund the 3 x Fast packs I had on pre-order then turned it into a purchase from Amazon Japan last week. DHL to Canada = 3 days.
They refunded me in full back to my Paypal account. I asked to change my ship to address and they said NO (no other option) so I replied to refund me the product which they ended up doing.
Wow really? They changed my shipping address when I said that because of the pandemic I am working from home. Been 11 months now for these FP. Sad thing is I am not going to put them on the only VF1 I have, but rather keep them in their box until I get Kakizaki in August. Through NY again. Hmmm.
it certainly is mine, warts and all. YMMV, if BANDAI dropped the bum swing-bar-detachment gimmick, and added the missing ejection seat tampo markings, the DX 1/48 would, -IMO- be utterly PERFECT...
It's one of these things that have changed for me the longer my collection goes on. When I was younger I used to be very intrigued by long and complex transformation sequences. Having gone through so many transforming figures that did that and were a nightmare to do anything with, I've settled for more stable, simpler designs. I was underwhelmed when I got the 1A Max, but it's now a contender for that title, alongside the Yamato VF19 and Bandai VF31.
same here, actually. i can still be mightily impressed by complex, clever transformations, but in my elder years i've found more realistic, believable designs to be the most personally compelling, and to this day, no Mecha design does remotely so elegant a job of being both a giant robot and an aeroplane at once than the almighty MACROSS VF-1. even so, the YAMATO/ARCADIA treatment of the YF-19 series is a strong contender for immediate runner-up. perhaps not so much in the stark realism/verisimilitude department, but very much so in terms of a design that makes for both a robot and aircraft mode that one might hardly guess is one and the same....
Complex transformations are fine with me as long as they make realistic sense. I know it’s silly to want realism in something that is fantasy but it can be believable that a machine can change form mechanically to optimize different tasks. The VF-1, as mentioned is such a design and most the toys have maintained this somewhat realism. What I really don’t like is unnecessary complexity and the ridiculous panel and endless folding that we see in a lot of Transformers designs these days to achieve completely “impossible” transformations that make no sense. Anything can turn into anything if you completely disregard any realistic functionality and add enough panels to fold into whatever shape you want.
Yea something that can be transformed faster without being fiddly is good. Takatoku remains king in that aspect with the 1/55, credit where it's due. The Bandai DX 1/65 Macross 7 valks, inaccurate as they are, are also the most fun to transform VF-17 and VF-19 toys I have. Worry-free transformations that don't take too long are my preference. For example, I don't like the DX VF-171 transformation and I don't like the whole 180 hip/folding LERX rotation on the Macross F valks. Out of all the DX valks by Bandai within the last 10 years, the VF-1 and VF-31 have my favorite transformations. 3rd favorite is the YF-19/VF-19Advanced save for the chest barrels(I much prefer how they did the arm transformation over the Yamato VF-19's, but the Yamatos have the better vertical hip adjustment going to battroid mode).
Yep I agree with the weird folding and panel transformations. Till I start to think of origami and how a simple piece of paper can become pretty much anything. Although there is magic with being able to transform something from one mode into another and actually seeing it happen in front of your eyes like the Valkyries. I only had experience with the old 1/55s till now and so far I love the Arcadia VF-1, Bandai DX VF-1 and the VF-31.
Yeah, I thought of paper origami too. But I think it adds to the ridiculousness of the realism of a working machine being able to fold like paper and still function. I agree with your favorites and I’d also say the VF-4 by Yamato/Arcadia/Bandai has an unexpectedly satisfying transformation as well. Minus the missiles that always fall of on the 1/60.
You just reminded me that I have yet to transform the HMR VF-4 I bought for display a while ago. Will have to pull that out and fiddle with it one of these days.
