This may blow some minds here, but my Masterpiece shelf includes figures that are not MPs, but they make good enough stand-ins for me in terms of aesthetic and/or scale.

CW Devastator? Not MP, but the scale is about right.
    POTP Predaking? Same as above.

I use Titans Return Leader Blaster as an MP stand-in because he's nearly identical in size to MP Soundwave.

TR Sixshot and Overlord, and a trio of Siege Refraktors, are with the MP Decepticons.

I have Generations Rattrap and Rhinox with my Beast War MPs. Rattrap looks good with the others. Rhinox is undersized, but he rounds out the Maximal crew. Same with Generations Waspinator on the Predacon side.

I know they're not all from the same toyline and they don't all say Masterpiece on the box. Who cares? Build the display you're happy with.

All these walls of text when no one said that CW Devastator was of the same quality as MP, just scale. From what I'm reading, all anyone said was that CW Devastator *was scaled to MP*, intentionally, so that folks could have the option of having a Devastator scaled to their MP collection.

Whether or not someone thinks Devvie should be with a MP collection or not is irrelevant.

There's a big difference between "masterpiece" and "Masterpiece". You're using the wrong one. Masterpiece with a capital M is just a class of figure, the same way there's Deluxe, Voyager, etc. Hastak absolutely does have authority on what makes a figure a Masterpiece. Lower case M though, that's up to personal opinion, that's the one you're looking for.

Don't collect Marvel Legends, or use oven gloves if you play with Hot Toys.

Yeah, I think this is where I am too. Don't limit yourself to a box just because:

"Takara doesn't call it a Masterpiece so it can't be a Masterpiece by name and name alone and that's all that matters is the name given to it. Because never in the history of anything is there a Masterpiece Transformer if it isn't an official Takara piece. And if Takara says a Masterpiece Devastator is just a head taller than any of their Masterpiece Primes, which would make him shorter than MP01... then that's the definition of Masterpiece Scale because that's what Takara says and only they can make a Masterpiece." You can insert Raiden in place of Devastator.

That's a terrible way to be.

And, again, it's such an unnecessary argument to have because a Takara Masterpiece Combiner team doesn't exist so there's way no to know whether or not it's going to be bad.

"But CW Devastator is practically a Masterpiece."

    Well, no because:
Now, we can have this conversation using MP51 because it exists and there are other figures out there to compare it to. And it has an ugly face and terrible hands and the upper body doesn't match the aesthetics of the lower body and neither are toon accurate which is the only true definition of the Masterpiece line because Takara says so, you fools who argue otherwise.

But it's not for me and will never be a figure I care to own let alone call a Masterpiece. And if it's Takara's best attempt at Masterpiece, then whew. Glad I don't live by only Takara can have a Masterpiece mindset.

I used to think that Takara set the MP rules but that has changed over the years. They keep changing their own rules/guidelines - even scale. I agree with you, it's up to the collector to decide what fits right on their shelf.

Hell yeah! I’ve owned all 3 MP Prime’s and each one is better than the last and makes the previous obsolete. The REmakes also make the originals obsolete. That’s an incredibly difficult bar to surpass in any medium but REmake 1 and 2 were phenomenal! 3 was good enough haha. I’m currently going through and getting the platinum trophies for ALL resident evil titles. Resident evil 4 and code Veronica on PS3, and code Veronica again on PS4 are my most recent completions. I’m excited for some REmake love to get shown there.

Masterpiece is subjective, but if you does NOT have an opinion of it, Takara definitely have the authority, even if it's just marketing / etc... Otherwise it's up to individual :D  UW Devastator can be MP if you want it, no matter what the box/other said.

I wonder if MP Raiden is part of TakaraTomy 40th Anniversary Diaclone 'list'

i doubt it. the way they probably see it is, if someone wants it bad enough, they will buy it regardless of price and tbh, i am one of those people that will.

Exactly, there's an entire line of Diaclone figures that suggest price means nothing.

I don't quite follow some of that.

But it does seem that it goes back the idea the CW Devastator is "practically a Masterpiece" and arguing against it, doesn't it?

Which is what started all this discussion.

That's seems like just semantics. But if you're good with that distinction, sure. If makes no difference to me.

I'm guessing TT planned to show something at Tokyo Toy Show next month similar to the Star Saber reveal.. Hopefully they do some sort of virtual event like for Shizouka Toy Show :)

Whatever else is true, I think that there's so much discussion shows that there's a real interest in Raiden.
