    So I had this idea.

Some toys seem to have similar color schemes... but how close are they really? Standalone photos don't really help, since they're often taken by different people using different cameras in different surroundings using different lighting and possibly with different subsequent digital color, hue, brightess, saturation and contrast enhancements.

So what we need are direct side-by-side comparison photos. Put those toys next to each other under the same lighting and take photos. Hopefully, that should show how close the colors actually are (or aren't).

I'm not exactly sure yet what direction I want this thread to take, so my initial suggestion would be a multifold route:

Anyone who has a request for a side-by-side comparison can post their requests here, and hopefully someone will fulfill that request.

Anyone who wants to, simply speaking, premptively fulfill a potential future request (or just wants to show off) can also do that here. I may try to maintain an index of sorts in the first post, though depending on how quickly this thread gets filled with comparisons, I may soon end up lagging behind, so no promises there.

What shall be the subject of this thread?

    A) Different toys of different characters that just happen to share a similar color scheme.
    B) Different toys of the same character that may or may not necessarily be all that similar in color.
    C) Different versions of the same toy, be it Hasbro versus TakaraTomy, or just running change variants, same-character redecos, literal repaints or different production runs.

What shall not be the subject of this thread?

Comparisons and comparison requests that are not related to the color or the decos of the toys in question (e.g., size or sculpting comparisons).

I'd like to start off with a request of my own:

Cybertron Voyager Class Quickmix and Thrilling 30 Deluxe Class Scoop, and also Quickmix's Mini-Con partner Stripmine and Scoop's Targetmaster partners Holepunch and Caliburst, either as two separate photos or all together in one photo (though in the latter case with the toys with similar colors grouped together).

Doesn’t match your request, but I believe matches option C.

Fun fact: There are three different yellow versions of the Constructicons (and that doesn't include minor color variants, or Diaclone versions)!

The version 1 line-up was available in Europe in 1986, manufactured by Ceji for Hasbro/Milton Bradley, as individual figures in packaging resembling the standard G1 packaging design, but with four languages (French, English, Dutch, and Spanish). Other than the yellow color, these figures were mostly identical to the green versions, and could be combined into Devastator using the included extra parts as one would expect.
The version 2 line-up was available in Europe in 1992 as part of the European-only continuation of the brand, as individual figures in unique "standardized" packaging featuring almost no texts, no individual names for the different figures, instructions for all six figures on the back of the packaging, and most importantly, the figures did not include any of the parts required for assembling Devastator, and furthermore, several of them were even retooled in order to completely neuter their ability to combine. (The infamous "Rescue Force" redecos of four members of the "Breastforce" from the Takara-exclusive "Victory" line were available that same year in a very similar packaging style, supposedly as the Constructicons' counterparts.) A further sub-variation in this line-up featured several parts in gray instead of yellow plastic.
The version 3 line-up was available in the United States and Canada (but apparently not in Europe) as part of the "Generation 2" line in 1993. Like the European 1986 releases, these figures were functionally identical to the green G1 versions and could be combined into Devastator using the included extra parts, and the only real differences were the colors and the packaging design.

What's interesting is that all three versions featured considerably different hues for the yellow and purple plastic colors! A side-by-side comparison of all three versions of Scavenger can be found here.

Yep. I have a MOSC set of the European version that didn’t combine, version 2. I also have a complete MOSC set of the orange Version, and a near complete second set of MOSC orange (just missing a second MOSC Long Haul)

I don’t have the earlier G1 yellow version, version 1, but only because they are hard to come by!

Another request: Beast Wars 10th Anniversary Optimus Primal (the Cybertron Deluxe sculpt) with BotCon 2006 Axalon Optimus Primal (the Cybertron Voyager Crumplezone sculpt). Maybe also add in Power of the Primes SDCC Throne of the Primes Optimus Primal (in both the smaller and large robot modes).

And likewise, Beast Wars 10th Anniversary Megatron (the Cybertron Deluxe sculpt) with BotCon 2006 Darksyde Megatron (the Cybertron Ultra Cybertron Defense Red Alert sculpt).

All right! Was able to purchase a super cheap Cybertron Quickmix and thus did the comparison myself:
    Cybertron_Quickmix_T30_Scoop.jpg

The orange and especially the yellow plastic parts are deeper and more saturated for Quickmix, whereas the dark plastic parts are dark gray for Quickmix, but black for Scoop.

The blue on Stripmine is also darker and has a slightly more purple-ish ue on Stripmine compared to Holepunch. Meanwhile, the yellow plastic parts on Caliburst are not from the same sprue as Scoop's own yellow plastic parts! Caliburst's yellow plastic parts are darker than even Quickmix's yellow plastic parts, and have a slightly more red-ish hue to them.

    That looks awesome!

I discovered years ago that the green on Cybertron Downshift and the green Universe Hound are a very close match. Although Downshift has dark gray parts whereas Hound has white parts.

    You mean Nemesis Prime. :)

Car Robots had "Black Convoy", RID had "Scourge".
Micron Legend had "Scourge", Armada had "Nemesis Prime".

    It's everyone's favorite Decepticon Fuel Scout/Auditor - G1 Ratbat!

The G1 release had two different variations according to Fred's Workshop, either the sticker decal version with silver weapons or the "gold" edition with painted details. The details were different between the painted version and the sticker decal. The 1986/87 Takara stand-alone release and the 2008 Universe release with Soundwave had gold weapons, but with stickered details that matched the G1 sticker details. All other versions had painted details that matched the G1 sticker details.

Top: 1986 G1 painted details; 1986 G1 sticker decal; 2008 Encore Great Cassette Operation Vol.2
Bottom: 2013 Shattered Glass; 2013 Linkin Park Soundwave: Special Edition; 2012 Encore Soundblaster & Wingthing

This thread seems like a cool idea. I have a request. Ever since I saw Scrapface I thought he was Reflector wearing Perceptors colors. I know they'll have really different tones, but if anyone can put TR Perceptor next to Netflix Scrapface that would be awesome.

Maybe Scrapface can be the nasty brother that doesn't bathe regularly, and Perceptor the OCD brother that has to be squeaky clean 100% of the time :lol

It's only in the last year I've realised Cybertron Quickmix isn't a million miles from G1 Quickmix in head sculpt and design cues. I'd love to see it repainted in the G1 colours.
