The sequel movies are the Darkest Timeline version of Star Wars
Filoni-verse is when Abed catches the dice and everyone parties happily (except for the bitter Rebels haters, i guess)

LOVING that Filoni is backdooring all sorts of Clone Wars / Rebels connections into Mando. hell, it's not even backdooring, you might as well call Mando S2 a Rebels live action S5.

The links are too strong to ignore. Mando S1 ends with a mandalorian loner embarking on a quest to find family and hope for a young force user, set just after ROTJ? There's no way they don't run into the parts of the Rebels/Clone Wars which featured the mandalorians and young force users!

I hope she appears in more than a flashback, although it is understandable if she is no longer alive. The Mandalorian Purge in which Gideon winds up with the Dark Saber and all the records reeeally doesn't sound to hot for the Nite Owls (Katan faction, post Death watch)

It would be super awesome if we got to see Mandalore itself, rendered in full live-action glory with the sexy STAGECRAFT techniques.

Imagine this, with the Mandalorian budget in live action:

    Goosebumps already

The Bo Katan parts may also help explain why the Nevarro faction has new customs like adopting foundlings and "never" removing their helmet

Have we pinned down when exactly Din Djarin's flashbacks occur? Deathwatch armor, battling B2 battledroids, so it has to be pre-Siege, pre-Maul partnership, post Dooku partnership. So the middle of the Clone Wars series, right? Pre Vizkla gets pissed that Dooku isn't helping them take over Mandalore, and they don't have Maul yet forming his Shadow Collective or whatever he called it then. Deathwatch is a rogue element, not Republic allies, anti-Separatist, driven off Concordia so they're moving around

This has to be where we see Bo Katan, i bet

It is quite the collaborative relationship. Filoni brought him in during Clone Wars and they are homies since. I think Favreau makes alot of sense as the EP/Creator of The Mandalorian because he has all of the directing and acting experience in live action and Filoni had . . . zero. By his own admission, Filoni had to adjust to the process, it was just a perfect situation to have his buddy take the lead.

Favreau is obviously a massive fan and an excellent filmmaker . . . but lets not fuck around here. Filoni is the deep cut, engrained in his soul Star Wars lifer here. Just watch the ending of the latest The Mandalorian, Disney gallery. The table is Favreau and the other directors and all they can do is sit and listen in as Filoni breaks down, in granular detail, the Anakin-Luke relationship through the years. Kennedy was at that table and she can't say shit, its all Filoni going OFF. Its insane

At this point it is undeniable even to her that Filoni should be running the show and Favreau should be involved. I suspect the Waiti selection is part of this direction shift.

When Marvel cast Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, were they just doing it to stick a black guy in the movie? C'mon man get the fuck outta here with that

No they were full filling a contract they already had with Sam Jackson.

When writer Mark Millar began penning The Ultimates limited series in 2002, he decided to model Fury after Jackson, who was his favorite actor. As Millar told THR, he had no idea that Jackson was a comic book fan, and after seeing his likeness alongside these Marvel heroes, the actor called up his agents, who got in touch with Marvel. The company apologized and promised to include Jackson in future movie adaptations, should they even be made.

So they gave Jackson that part so he wouldn't sue them for using his likeness in the comic. As of 2002 that part was guaranteed for him.

Which was a smart move on Jackson's part. He had the Nick Fury part before they even made the Iron Man movie.

Cool! So you see how stupid it is to say Bo Katan is some feminist appeasement?

Agreed. I just can’t believe how freaking cool this continuity keeping is. It won’t happen every time as the case with Dawson as Ahsoka is, but as good as they do it when they do it, it’s more than worth it.

I know it’s not Filoniverse but I still really loved how Fallen Order was just as rich in lore from all eras of Star Wars. TCW played heavily into it with Dathomir and the Nightsister massacre, Saw from Rogue One (and TCW), the Inquisitors from Rebels, the OT of course, and the ST in one pivotal location, the future Starkiller base.

The Mandalorian is very much doing the same thing. We’ve had flashbacks to TCW with the Seppie droids, the Dark Saber, the remnants of the Empire who will presumably eventually becomes part of the First Order, and a post-Endor setting. Now we’re getting freaking Ahsoka, maybe Rex, Bo-Katan, and apparently Boba.

I know TROS sucked but with Mandalorian, Fallen Order, TCW and Filoni’s next animated show, it really does feel like almost a golden age of Star Wars content. (And yes, I loved TLJ so I lump it in there too :)  ) This rich continuity drawing from Filoni in particular is really killing it.

I don't know how many times I have to say this, but just because I hate Rebels as a show doesn't mean I hate Filoni or hate the things Rebels did, I just think it was a poorly animated/written/plotted cartoon.

And it's still miles better than anything Disney's produced without Dave attached.

No I'm saying that the head of Lucas film is known for this type of thinking(She wore shirts saying the force is female for f sake), and I wouldn't be surprised if she was demanding more female characters, so they are using established ones (Which I'm fine with) so they can get around her meddling. I have no proof of this, but it wouldn't surprise me.

They just announced a new star wars series and declared it will be female focused. That was a headline and carried in multiple news articles.
Female-Focused ‘Star Wars’ Series From ‘Russian Doll’s Leslye Headland In Works – Deadline

I don't have to make this stuff up, they are having press releases saying it. There is a clear announced agenda by the head of Lucas film.

I never said Kennedy doesn't have such goals, i'm saying your concerns are stupid

Bo Katan was created before The Mandalorian and given the time period and circumstances of S2, her fit would be obvious even without Kathleen Kennedy's goals. Sackoff playing her in live action is a freakin' layup - the character model looks like her and its already her damn voice

As to your other point, star wars creating or using strong female characters is a good thing in general, as it would be for any franchise

so what the fuck are you bitching about? its not like they're retconning a male into a female and cuttting your dick off

No as I and others have pointed out this type of announcement typically means they will focus on having female characters over having a good story.
We just saw it with the last few Star Wars movies, Doctor Who, and Star Trek.
People are sick of preaching and agenda over solid story and good plot.
Don't care if a female is the main character, but announcing that it is that that the series will focus on that above all else is a warning sign.

Was there any detail about Katee Sackhoff’s casting that alludes to this? It’s interesting how a casting announcement about an actress always devolves down to this. I saw none of this when Temuera Morrison was cast in the show.

No I more or less think they hired her because she was the voice actress and they worked with her before. I think they included the actress’s character because there was a mandate from the top for more females and Bo-Katan fit the bill as a female and a mandalorian as a character that would work in the series. And this is just conjecture on my part based on comments I’ve seen made in interviews. I’m honestly wondering how much they are having to work around executive mandates from the top, when coming up with what will likely be good stories, with the current team in charge.

There have been changes even in the recent clone wars series, so it's obvious they are working around mandates

I hate the world today. The Bo Katan casting is a smart move in narrative and casting but anything that has to do with a woman or minority in media instantly trigger people thinking it’s going to be some SJW “woke” propaganda. If Filoni is writing it’s going to be fine because he knows how to make good characters. I would love to see a movie like Alien or Terminator be made today. There would be so much hate.

I agree, but as I said, I'm still worried people at the top may be meddling again. I want to just be able to watch something and not have to worry about this stuff. But it keeps happening, leading to me constantly looking for warning signs. Either there is an agenda, or something will happen and we end up with another cop out like the ending of Game of thrones. Something is wrong in entertainment media and I honestly feel I can't trust things I used to like anymore. (I hate that)

I don't disagree with you a single bit that Kennedy is pushing for more female representation at the cost of all else. The replacement of Nyx with the two sisters is especially frustrating because I doubt the arc would've been as bad since it actually would've been Ahsoka and another person interacting, instead the two sisters just talk to each other and Ahsoka becomes a third wheel in her own arc. And not that it's my cup of tea, but the idea that Ahsoka would've formed some (fleeting) romantic relationship with Nyx is at least something worth exploring, as it's something she could never do in the Jedi order. I probably wouldn't have liked it, but it would've been something for the character to experience that's outside her comfort zone and followed her asserting her independence and choosing what she wants in life, rather than what she's told. Y'know, like a normal girl her age would.

That said, OptionZero is completely right about this not being the same thing. This is not Disney pushing a ham-fisted agenda, this is Filoni giving his created characters their due. Just like the confirmation of Ahsoka in season 2 of Mando, the character's gender is irrelevant, Filoni is just bringing in fan-favourites because he knows people like them. Bo-Katan's addition even makes more sense, as it'll likely be used to expand and explain the Mandalorian lore and how it's changed from TCW to this.

They announced Bo-Katan exactly the same way they've announced every other character. They just did the same for Boba days ago. Your concerns are totally understandable given history but misplaced in this instance.

This is entirely true, unfortunately. But Disney has made their intent very, very clear. Which is stupid to me. KK wanted more female representation, but Star Wars has always had multiple strong female characters (as in well-developed) across the years. Hell, Ahsoka was popular way before Disney took the reigns. It was only once they started forcing it, making it obvious, and compromising on their stories did people see the obvious pandering for what it was.

Nobody wants Rey, Rose, Holdo, etc, but people go crazy over the idea of Ahsoka or Bo-Katan getting more exposure. Cara Dune even became a fan-favourite as well, without being a legacy character from the Lucas years. Disney doesn't realize that by treating female characters as a gimmick instead of characters, they're actually doing more harm than good.

The issue is everything is so rushed and botched up. Remember when it would be years between movie sequels.

Yeah I miss when they had competent film makers who actually tried rather than just checking off boxes on the agenda list.
