I think they're referring to the Pony toys themselves as 80's retro style like the one they did for Stranger Things and the other 35th anniversary toys, not the brands.

To be fair, the Super Sentai series was going on from the 70's until the iteration that was translated and imported in '93.

Was just coming into post about this weird crossover.

I used to love Power Rangers as a kid. Kimberly, Trini and Jason were awesome.

I still have a soft spot for Ghostbusters. But does Hasbro mean the movie GBs or the cartoon GB?

I would so buy those if I liked the design. I would flip out if it came on a Big Brother Pony mould. Basic Fun hasn't recreated them yet and we're not sure if they will. But the older pony community would love it if they did.

Alternately, they could mean one of the retro mane six pack moulds.

    ETA:
Re-read the description that the ponies will be 4-5 inches. So that's a good possibility that Basic Fun is making them. If that's true, they'll definitely have my attention.

Plasmane will probably represent the brand as a whole, but maybe seen as more movie and not the Real Ghostbusters, although Hasbro is doing retro reissues of the old cartoon toyline now, too, so you never know.

Actually I think chances are high that such a character will end up featuring in a future IDW Ghostbusters crossover because, well, why not? They've crossed over with just about everything else from IDW.

They managed to make a version of the Transformers canon in the world of Ghostbusters in the latter's IDW comic, so I wouldn't be surprised if they take that approach with a hypothetical My Little Pony crossover. (Actually, I would be VERY surprised, but you get the idea.)

But would the Mane 6 visit the Busters or vice-versa? Would the latter be turned into colts themselves? What would they even fight? Wendigos? So much to think about! The sky's the limit!

What I'm surprised at, is that Hasbro isn't doing an MLP crossover with other popular 80s girls franchises like Care Bears, Rainbowbrite, Strawberry Shortcake, JatH and She-Ra? That would make way more sense, unless Hallmark and Mattel didn't wanna play ball.

TF crossing over with PR makes sense. The GB crossover is still weird to me. Whose making the GB figs anyway?

@Targetmaster Joe Why would anyone want more Mane 6? People are sick of seeing them clogging shelves. New characters are good.

Because I’m most familiar with them?
Admittedly I only got into MLP through the recent generation(though I have given G1 a chance and thought it was alright). It’s one thing to make like Pony-based Transformers or whatever, But generally speaking when it comes to crossovers the last thing you want to do is make it focus on original characters. Most of the appeal of crossovers is to bring two different universes, and thus different casts of characters together. Making the focus mainly on new characters specifically for it is a good way to kill any interest and defeats the entire purpose

Heck my biggest complaint with Kingdom Hearts is the bigger focus on the original cast

Hasbro currently is making Ghostbusters figures, same with Power Rangers (which they own now), so that is why this is happening. The only other franchise on your list I think Hasbro actually owns is Jem, but we're not getting anything Jem related right now let alone a crossover. Maybe if these first three are successful you'll see three more next year for G.I.Joe, Jem, and Nerf or something?

I know that they don't own those, as I did in fact mention that earlier. I'm just saying it would make more sense to collaborate with other 80s girl adventure shows, then tossing it in with an 80s movie, an 80s boy toon and a 90s live action show. Its a really really weird thing to mix in.

Maybe, but I think Hasbro is doing this because it's cheap and easy, and crossing over with a Mattel brand or two is probably the opposite of that.

Besides, I'm not 100% sure collaborating with typically boys-centric brands from the 80's and early 90's is that off market for My Little Pony anymore. I'm sure it will have it's appeal to a good chunk of the consumer base of all of the brands involved.
