I don't recall part of G1 where an entire population was kept inside a computer-created virtual dreamland for an extended period, "pacification by them not realizing something's wrong". THAT's the issue here. Not the common trope of "slaves/machines rising up against their oppressors/creators".

That's fine. I'll give you that. But it's interesting that the Machines oppressed by Organics was the motivator for the Matrix Bad guys. And even if Transformers weren't the first to do that, they were one of the first to do it with sentient robots. So the Matrix's might have had the whole "asleep and dreaming" premise before Cyberverse, but their end game followed a kid's cartoon, whether they knew that or not. So I'll forgive this kid's toon for copying elements of a big time movie series that copied a kid's cartoon on the underlying story, rather than just the surface plot.

Besides, I've seen the entire season, and that Matrix plot is only a fraction of this season.

 

If you think that's what the season is about, you're going to be very surprised.

 

Woo, don't want to jinx it - but loving the fact that the season 3 eps aren't region locked any more.
