To be honest, I don't always notice which section a thread is posted in. I'm not one of the most observant people you'll ever meet. ^^'

No problem my dude. I hope I didn't come off as antagonistic in my post, because I'm honestly pretty much the same way.

Unrelated to the thread at hand, but I’ve always considered this to be one of the most beautiful panels in the G1 comic run.

I like the idea of IDW Spike more than the execution, I'd rather he was more like Marvel Spike but I like the idea that he's a military man like his dad was. Though I will say he was fully justified in killing Decepticons given how they massacred the planet during AHM.

I know you're mostly joking about the Shane comment so I won't get into that, but I would like to point out that stories like Last Stand of the Wreckers (hell most of Roche's Wrecker stories) and Eugenesis do exist, though the latter is technically fanfiction it would be foolish to disregard it due to how amazingly it's written. It's also probably the most visceral and grim Transformers story I've ever had the pleasure of reading, I only wish more could enjoy it but you sort of have to have read the Marvel run (Both US and UK) to understand it all.

In a world where Captain America: Winter Soldier and Joker exist, the idea of a darker Transformers setting shouldn't be that ridiculous. Though admittedly you being unable to take certain stories seriously doesn't reflect on the quality of the story itself, it just says more about your threshold in regards to content.

Some people can't take 'any' superhero stuff seriously, and fair enough, but that doesn't mean the stories don't work or aren't well written. I don't believe Transformers should have to be goofy or light-hearted just because of when it was made, or why it was made. Obviously a setting that's constantly grimdark isn't going to be for everyone and I'm a believer that it's always best to have a mix of both levity and darkness, and the darkness should come naturally (though in a setting involving war, first contact and so forth dark themes will be plentiful) but there's still value in stories that lean more heavily on misery and a somber tone.

Some films can do that badly, like Batman V Superman, but that doesn't mean it can't be done ever, and it would be silly to say we can't have a masterfully crafted dark character study in the form of Todd Philips' "Joker" because the Joker could be called corny 50's shlock.

    For no reason?

    upload_2020-5-4_22-22-42.png

So its okay for Decepticons to kill humans for no reason, but not okay for humans to kill Decepticons in retailation?

It really wasn't for no reason.

Spike killing Scrapper, while brutal, was in fact, justified. Because, guess what, the Decepticons are geocidal butholes who couldn't care less about anyone but themselves. Now, Spike being a douche to everyone after all this is over? Yeah, I can see why he wouldn't be anyone's favorite.

Pretty much. Why should he show mercy? They never did.

Honestly, while Spike may have been a jerk, this was his finest hour - showing a genocidal monster that yes, actions do have consequences.
