I did the same. couldnt resist the $30 sale when it was up, even if it ends up being just a desk toy.

yeah for $30 I feel like I made out like a bandit. this thing rocks.

joystick is actually highly responsive and i had no issues performing most specials and supers in the fighting games.

only awkward thing is the arrangement of the abcd buttons but that is covered in most of the reviews for this thing already.

Not really been a fan of the HD graphics packs that folks have done for NES games so far, but a guy just knocked out a couple of really nice ones for DK Jr and Ice Climber that retain that old Nintendo aesthetic and make them look like SNES versions. Will definitely give these a go the next time I have the itch to play those games -

So I've kept my Super Nt just in case I ever feel the need to play SNES games again, and given how things are going on in the world, maybe selling those SNES carts a few months back wasn't such a hot idea. But, I ordered me a Super Everdrive that just shipped today. Should be here Friday.

I compiled and tried a bit of the Mario 64 port and hot damn. It's barebones, but it already smashes the shit out of any other way of playing the game from what I've seen so far.

Not going to play through it yet as I want to see where this goes (60 FPS PLZ) and if the heavily rumoured official Switch port has anything to offer, but this is what I've been waiting for to replay the game for a long time.

In case? You doubted if you'd want to play SNES games again? :p

Hope you kept your enhancement chip games though, you'd need an FXPAK/SD2SNES to play those rather then an Everdrive.

Actually the Everdrive in question is an FXPak Pro, so I'm good. :D

Playing through doom eternal has got me revising the original games and I’m currently having a blast with doom 2.

I had forgotten how big some of these levels are and whoever designed these levels is basically a sadistic evil genius but this is a good thing as this level design combined with the incredibly satisfying feeling super shotgun somehow elevate this game beyond being doom 1.5 and into being a timeless classic.

I imagine modern gamers might not quite understand what all of the fuss was about but once the levels starts to get harder and larger this game feels epic even today.

I'm currently rolling my own neural upscale of all the Doom/Doom II graphics for the sake of doing a run through of Doom, Sigil, and Doom II. :D

Machine learning upscaling is one of the best things to happen to games in the last couple of years, Nvidia DLSS is fucking amazing and folks on the internet are starting to do allot of good stuff applying it to old games.

Neural upscaling hasn't reached anywhere near that level yet--at least not anything available that I know of. :D

ESRGAN has still been doing a pretty decent job for me though. If anyone cares, I'll try to post screen shots later.

There's one thing I expected to see by now that hasn't happened yet though. For N64 games where Nintendo has released 3DS (or even original DS) ports with higher resolution textures, nobody has been upscaling those for use with emulators running the N64 versions. The better the source, the better the upscale, so it's odd.

This needs to be a thing even more if the decomplication and porting thing ends up having legs. I'm not a Zelda guy personally, but OOT/MM at 1080+ with unlocked framerate and upscaled 3DS textures is something the world needs.

"Super EverDrive" is the name of a specific model--the absolute most basic one--hence the assumption that you got one that doesn't do expansion chips. With an FXPAK Pro, you should be pretty much set :D

I could be mistaken, but I think Super Mario 64 DS had slightly higher resolution textures than the N64 version too. On the plus side, I believe at least one person is experimenting with using 3DS models in N64 OoT.

Went and had a look at some emulator footage and it does, but they aren't always better as they completely changed some of them to new deigns that don't fit as with the low poly look and the first stage has a completely different palette that makes it look like a washed out GBA game.

Definitely needs a curated approach IMO.
