Tom Cruise Plots Movie To Shoot In Space With Elon Musk’s SpaceX – Deadline

I don’t know about you guys, but this might finally be what does Cruise in. One thing goes wrong up there, you’re dead. And that’s even if they get permission to go up there for whatever this is.

Just let him finish the Mission Impossible movies first please.

 

I'm really not a fan of Cruise's beliefs, but I still wish him luck and safety. This could be seriously scary if something goes wrong.

 

If he wants to get closer to the space emperor, I'd rather he just waits next to the volcano like everybody else.

 

I hope this doesn't happen

 

Is he trying a space jump?

That'd be a great way to top his action stunts. Even if it could cost him his life.

 

Say what you will about Tom Cruise, but you have to respect how dedicated he is to making the best action movies he can make. Personally, I don’t see this happening. There are ways that they could achieve zero gravity without actually going into space. However, if two people were to find a way to send an actor and film production crew into space, it would be Tom Cruise and my boy Elon Musk.

 

"Could"?? Haha ohhh if Musk is behind it, it most certainly WOULD cost him his life. Well at least the first eight dozen prototypes would. But since Musk is involved, it will be delayed indefinitely over & over again anyway, so nothing will even come of it.

 

Like I said, finish the Mission Impossible movies FIRST. Then whatever happens after that, if it’s this and it goes sideways. Then I won’t be as saddened.

 

Oh I totally agree. Though, after how extreme he keeps going with his M:I stunts, I also won't be surprised if one of those eventually do him in. I hope not, of course, but man... all it takes is once.

 

Imagine what two megalomaniacs might achieve with their powers combined!

You forget the Mummy 2017 was all his doing too. He doesn't care about anything but making himself look good in those action movies.

That movie was really dumb, but I thought the stunts were good at least

 

If by good you mean ruining a whole movie with an guy in his mid-50's looking really embarrassing doing all that stuff. Then sure. There's a reason I've avoided the last *n* Mission Impossible movies.

 

Just because he's 50 means he can't do his own stunts? He's not that old

And every mission impossible after 3 has been awesome (2 and 3 were terrible)

I've actually never seen a single Mission Impossible film, but I'm a bit disappointed to hear this won't be a Mission Impossible. Seeing a heist film aboard the International Space Station would be a great story premise.

As for the concept...it sounds neat, but completely unnecessary. From what I gather, the fun of watching Tom Cruise's stunts is seeing him be a daredevil. Hanging onto airplanes, climbing buildings, etc. Things that we all know are perilous, because we've all been on a rooftop or ridden on an airplane. The problem with space is that the average person has never been into space. We all know it's dangerous, but it's not really something we can relate to.

For instance, the scene where Star Lord takes off his mask in GOTG is a great moment. But it won't raise the hairs on your neck, like when Kevin puts a spider on Marv's face in Home Alone. Space is scary, but you can't directly relate to it, so there's a disconnect. I can't help but wonder if this will be less impressive to people than his other stunts. But I guess we'll see. If done well, it could be impactful I suppose.

 

Space is more scary because of the minutiae more than anything. The Martian with Matt Damon does a good job showing how difficult space travel/exploration can be. There’s a million things that can go wrong, and you really have to applaud astronauts. They’ve got to be in good shape, and they have to know what they’re doing when it comes to complicated billion dollar equipment. Obviously, I’ve never been to space, but I imagine the two scariest parts have to be the launch and the re-entry.

One thing is for sure though, they only have one chance to get all the scenes in space right if they’re actually going to film in space. One launch is already a very expensive and time sensitive endeavor that takes weeks if not months of planning, so they’re only going to get one shot at filming in space. If they’re actually filming on the ISS, then it will take 2 days just to fly there. The only alternatives are using identical sets/models and green screen for pickup shots and maybe sending some cameras up with astronauts at a later date to get additional footage. It will be interesting to see how they perform stunts given that no one has ever filmed a fictional action movie in real outer space before. We do have ways of simulating zero gravity on Earth obviously, but there’s obviously limitations to what you can do in a real functioning space station without getting anyone hurt or destroying anything. It’s a crazy undertaking considering that most movies don’t even film on open oceans because of the difficulties involved with that, but I’m excited at the prospect of the whole thing
