Sky Garry looks nothing like a space shuttle. His altmode is nearly identical to Siege Shockwave, complete with chest facing up in vehicle mode.

To get him from TR Astrotrain, you'd need to retool everything above the knees and even then have him transform upside down.

Yeah I don't see Shockwave in him at all.

I think they go more for robot mode accuracy, so I'm not sure if astrotrain works really well either... but they have done some amazing things.

I don't think Shockwave would work. Actually when I see Sky Garry I think of a heavily retooled Sixshot/Greatshot.

    It works. Fun tidbit:

"The reason for this design homage is delightfully obscure: It’s a reference to a piece of Return of Convoy promotional artwork that depicted a toy-accurate Optimus “evolving” into Star Convoy….which happens to be the gimmick this whole set has. Check it out:

Oh, I have no problem with the evolution concept - from what I've seen the G1 truck to Star Convoy robot mode is pulled off fairly well, and I happily admit that TT went the extra mile to make the robot mode as Star Convoy as they possibly could. That said... well, I'll copy+paste my original post on this below, it'll be easier :p

"This might get roasted. Whatever. I really wanted to love this, Star Convoy's one of my favorite TF designs ever.

I don't mind the price - that's to be expected at this point. I don't mind the perceived lack of effort in vehicle mode, because that does stay true to the entire gimmick of G1 characters evolving into their future selves. I don't mind the lack of a tiny Rodimus because it's 2019 and we have options. But when it comes to robot mode, IMO there's too big a discrepancy between the base Leader mold proportions and the ones in Star Convoy's character design to really pull off anything more than a half decent homage, even with all the fantastic remolding.

Star Convoy, from the few pieces of official art that we have, has always been drawn as far more stylized than your average G1 Prime; both his torso and arms start big before tapering down into sleek, while his lower body follows the Gundam pattern of slim thighs into much larger (both in terms of length and bulk) lower legs. The G1 Star Convoy figure, brick as it is, does try to emulate these as best it can given the limitations inherent to the toy; meanwhile, the Leader mold proportions were meant for the regular G1 Convoy and it really shows when the exact same base is used for a character that doesn't share them. The end result just looks off to me, but of course your mileage will vary.

That said - I love that they made this choice at all, end result notwithstanding, and I love that fans have the chance to buy a new Star Convoy after lord knows how long! It's a great sign that TT's willing to go back that far into their catalogue, because there's no guarantee 3P ever will."

No roasting needed. This Star Convoy is ok, but it is barely any different than PotP Optimus, especially when compared to all of the work they did making Super Megatron out of Galvatron. So I'll definitely replace it if a better one ever comes along.

I think he's the only suitable candidate for a Grandus retool... He's a big bot and his battle carrier mode kinda looks like Grandus' base carrier mode.. Hmmmm

I think that would work...I know theres a few 'Grandus needs to be a Titan' voices out there but lets be honest...hes a small niche character and if we cant get Metrotitan...a simple recolor...theres no way we get Grandus as $150+

If they're going to do a Grandus, now's the time to do it, I can honestly think of no other figure that can fit in better with a gimmick of ramp madness that Earthrise is promoting. Between the modulators, mini-ramp bots, and the AIR system, it's the best time for Grandus to get a release as it can capitalize on the gimmick hard.

Might have been asked before previously but anyone knows what would be a suitable height for Grandus to scale with Select Star Convoy?

True. Unless they beef up the mold bigger to accommodate the micromasters.

Eh, I don't think he'd warrant yet another Titan. The Titan class seems reserved for known mainstream characters like Fort Max, Omega Supreme, and now Scorponok. Even Metrotitan doesn't seem warranted.

TakaraTomy did the Powered Masters trio, Greatshot, and God Ginrai's full package with Godbomber, but none of those saw release outside of Japan. I doubt we would see a Grandus from Hasbro's Generations Select line.

If anything, a proper Metalhawk, Go-Shooter, or Minerva would seem more likely.

Generations: Selects is Hasbro actually importing toys that would normally be Takara-exclusive, like Star Convoy and Super/Ultra Megatron. So... if Takara does end up making a Grandus it's very likely it will be released by Hasbro as a Generations: Selects toy.

Unfortunately, unlike Star Convoy and Super Megatron, there doesn't seem to be a printed height for Grandus (or Sky Garry), which leaves us at the mercy of the artwork in the different iterations.

In the TV Magazine pages, Grandus never actually appears in robot mode next to anyone in reasonable distance from anyone with good perspective (Actually, you can say that about most of them); the closest comes when they do the Triple Combination Attack and Grandus' alt mode looks to be toy scale with Star Convoy (Sky Garry seems smaller then toy scale). However, during the False Convoy battle, Grandus is in mobile base mode has a tiny robot mode Sky Garry on it. When the team has been swallowed by Star Giant is probably the best image of them together, but Star Convoy and Sky Garry aren't fully visible and they're not next to each other, with Grandus behind the others, but it looks like Grandus is bigger then Sky Garry. Sky Garry in the introduction when he gets the Zodiac to revive Convoy is about a head shorter then Dai Atlas FWIW.

In the Manga, his only appearance is in base mode in one panel with no one else in that panel.

In the TV Catalog retelling, he's all over the place. Grandus is a head shorter then Dai Atlas. Then he's a head taller then Sky Garry. Then Star Convoy reaches his stomach and Sky Garry's antennas are in line with his groin.

Overall, it looks like Grandus is bigger then the toy is against the others, but how much seems to be open for interpretation. Gun to my head I'd say that the top of Grandus' head should be in line with the center of Star Convoys chest 3-point star.

EDIT: I was looking at TFWiki and there's a picture there that I don't have at all in my Battlestars folder, depicting Sixliner, Grandus and Sky Garry together, where Grandus is very clearly the largest of the group, so take that as you will.
