How dare you bring logic to the table. I don't want to see any of this in 12-15 months when people are selling them above what they paid for them.

...i fall into the camp which believe that scalping requires artificial scarcity; intermediation to markets without direct access is more distribution than scalping, and serves natural demand...

    ...you can't really scalp a made-to-order product...

I kinda take issue with this because Hasbro blindsided everyone with it and gave them two months to get the money and space together. If they weren't willing or able to buy it f0r its original price they're not going to for the double it's going on eBay for.

It really depends on supply and demand. Look at metroplex now. People are willing to pay 500 bucks for him on the secondary market. And he was the cheapest titan class figure. Only time will tell how unicron is going to fare on the 2nd market.

Toy value speculating pretty much never works for a bunch of reasons, but It's probably fair to say it won't decrease in value. But there's a good chance that it doesn't increase either if all the ones being sold for jacked-up prices don't sell.

Except being made-to-order, they're not so limited. People buying multiples to flip wouldn't really be scalping, as they actually increased the supply of Unicron that will be out there. Just like any product sold at a store, the more stores selling it, the lower the prices are bound to be.

Take a look at the sail barge from haslab. It had the same offering as unicron also. That thing is going for 1k or more on ebay. As long as the market isnt flooded with supplies and the demand is still high than it will sell at a higher price than 575.

This has probably been addressed many times in the thread, but are we 100% certain Hasbro isn't going to open up orders for Unicron again? When funding was open, it was not clear to me that there wouldn't be an opportunity to buy the figure after the fact. I'm not up on the whole 'go fund me' thing so maybe it's something that is expected to be understood but I missed the fact entirely. I thought backers usually get some kind of bonus throw-in item but everyone eventually gets the opportunity to purchase.

That's super disappointing. I think they are forfeiting some serious cash.

Bet you that within 6 months of release there will be a Weijiang or other ko version for $300 or less. Probably oversized with shampoo bottle plastic.

    In your dreams.

They're on the shelf right next to all the newly restocked Battle Gaia and Guard City gift sets.

If you get to the aisle with all the Lucky Draw editions you've gone too far.

Dunno what else you'd call it, because neither Hasbro, nor trustworthy etailers are still selling it. If you still want one you don't have a choice other than to go to the people who bought them for no other reason than to sell them for a profit.
This is 100% true, but I meant in terms of the insane value appreciation over time that we see with MISB G1 stuff. The only reason any of that valuable now is that no one expected it to be.

Indeed. Now that [Team that swears they aren't Zeta] has confirmed they are still making theirs, we all know these'll be collecting dust next year around late October at Ollie's. Right next to the unwanted Megazords, some off brand board games and puzzles and shit ton of Rose Tico themed toys.

Yeah, that's the case with EVERY toy a year or two after they stop selling it. People that purchased more to flip are creating an artificial supply, not an artificial scarcity. They're adding to the pool of Unicron available on the secondary market. If they hadn't bought them, those Unicrons wouldn't be sitting around waiting for someone to buy them, they simply wouldn't exist.
