    SHE LIVES!

I'm so excited to see that this figure is still happening. Admittedly it doesn't look perfect. I still don't like how we still haven't seen the guns slung under the arms in super mode, despite the fact that its one of the defining features of the design. And even then the guns are stowed away facing down instead of facing upwards like in the show.

But who knows, maybe some of that will be cleared up over time. I'm just happy that this figure hasn't been canned.

The only thing I would beef up a little is the thighs. A little more muscular chunk there would be sweet.

I'm expecting that there will be a lot of different poses we'll be able to get out of those guns, so I wouldn't lose hope until we find out any different for sure.

We haven't seen it proper, BUT we do know that the cannons ARE attached to the wings, from the shot of the flight mode they give us. It's on an arm that rotates BEHIND the wing rather than simply sitting on a fixed swivel. I imagine it'll sit securely but this prototype simply has joints that are too weak. I'm more concerned about having not seen the handgun separate from the larger.. ladder? I think?

No Cyber Key though, that SUPER bugs me! I hope he at least has a Matrix still

The handgun I'm not too worried about. If I'm honest its the feature I think is the least important out of the whole lot. Though looking closely at some of the photos, I can see the line of separation. So I think its still going to happen.

Same for the cyber key gimmicks. The joints are there. We just haven't seen the truck from behind yet. So we don't know if there are actual ports for a key.

What really concerns me is how, based off the joints I can see, it looks like the two sections on the big cannon hinge open like the toy, rather than shift and extend vertically like in the show.

I don't care for the Cyber Key to activate the gimmick, I care for the key as a display piece a la Dinobot's Golden Disk. Honestly I didn't realize the show opened differently. Are you sure it does and it wasn't a trick of the camera angles? I havent watched in so long

It's a subtle difference that I don't think most people notice. But to me it's significant.

    For comparison:

While not as wide open, I think that's still it opening in a V. It has a slight taper still. Idk, maybe an early concept had it open parallel? He does has a few discrepancies, like the detailing on the back of his backpack, so who knows

It's worth stating here that, in TF circles at least, this product isn't a "KO", but rather a "3P" product. Also, legally speaking, knockoffs aren't illegal, but "counterfeit" products are. "IP infringement" (or in some countries, known as "IP theft") is the legal definition when used, in the case with TF toys, to denote counterfeit products.

In most cases, though, the offending parties (and products) are innocent until proven guilty, as it's very difficult to specify what exactly defines their creation/product.

Morally speaking, it's up to the individual, but for those taking a "holier than though" attitude, be aware that "shop brand" items (Kirkland or Walmart versions of branded products, etc) or clothing from most shops (with designs heavily influenced from catwalk designs) are "knockoffs". We (consciously or not) buy KO products, almost everyday, and it's not illegal.

That said, Mr Archer, I'm sorry you feel this way about this product. Personally, I bought the Japanese version of the original, while I was in Japan. I didn't buy the recent Hasbro version, because I thought it was not as well designed as the original, and the "cr@pple-damage" paint put me off (as it did for most of the Seige line). In fact, I bought more KOs of the Seige line than official versions for those very reasons.

Whether or not I get this 3P version depends on the price, the ease of transforming it and the amount of improvements to the original design (and whether or not it can fit in my CHUG collection), though. In other words, Hasblo's recent attempts couldn't surpass (your?) original offering, and this 3P product has a high bar to surpass if it is to convince me (and I'm sure others) to buy it.

...didn't you try to sell a line that was blatantly copying at least the colorwork for the G1 pretender stuff? it makes me less sympathetic to your complaint, as I wonder if you considered that for the people responsible for those items at the time.

I\'d love to get one (and I probibally will get it) but I\'m just so sad how the Make toys concept never made it out.

I like that people are trying to explain to Aaron Archer how the toy industry works. This is the most entertaining thing to me.

Much love to you @Aaron Archer hope you and your family are doing well.

Personally, I like the part where he argues about what you can and can't do legally on a board dedicated to a part of the industry that exists entirely on the basis of intellectual property theft, made possible with manufacturing done primarily in places that don't care about intellectual property law, sold to collectors for many years all over the world who aren't bothered by the questionable legality of it all.
