I think its fair to assume Hasbro doesnt want anything to do with Antimated, TFP, Unicron Trilogy, etc. If it ain't G1 they dont care

I know this isn't the case but I'm really hoping for an extended and modernized retelling of the g1 episode wardawn.

    Dammit.

Well, uh, technically, Primal isn't Prime, so he doesn't count.

I’m looking forward to this movie. I like the idea of a high quality animated movie series over live action.

I'm all for redesigns, as long as characters keep their core design components, like Optimus' faceplate and antennae, or Wheeljack's glowy "ears", and Soundwave's chest window.

On the basis of recently reading Patty Jenkins' comments on rather or not her film, Wonder Woman 1984, is a sequel or reboot.

    Her quote is the following:

"There was a little period of time where people got very upset, and questioning: ‘Is it not a sequel? Is it a total reboot? It is a sequel, insofar as nothing is contradicted between the two movies. But it’s very important to me that it’s not more of the first movie. It’s a totally different movie. Now, when you see the trailer, you can feel it."

Now what does the words of a director in another franchise have to do with Transformers?

Well, it more of the language she is using to selling her film as fresh and different than the rest. In that view the "Transformers Cybertron film" is a prequel to Bumblebee(maybe the Bay films), but is more standalone because it doesn't continue Bumblebee's story seen in Bumblebee.

This could be great and I'll remain open and optimistic to that possibility.

i know a lot of people are concerned about it being too g1 centric but since the bumblebee universe is focusing on that i think paramount/hasbro will use this to focus less on nostalgia and more on trying a new direction to bring in new fans

If anything he's more indicative of the different mentalities. Beast Wars was so different it didn't even have Optimus and Megatron as we knew them. (outside of cameos)

Now you literally cannot have a TF anything without Optimus Prime as a major character.

Except Ironhide was originally Roadbuster, Smokescreen was Grapple (well, Grap) and Red Alert was Ratchet.

I got really excited then I saw it was unrelated to the Bayverse movies. Not that it won't connect, but because it won't look like them.

That's pretty much where I stand as well - War Dawn and its take on Optimus as one of Megatron's victims who comes back to become his eternal rival is one that resonates much more strongly with me than the old Xavier/Magneto-style relationship. I guess it's because I don't really see the Great War and everything that comes with it leading to a "oh, I wish we could just set aside our differences and be friends like old times."

I would much prefer a reinterpretation of G1, expanding on or altering certain characters, like what IDW did. A new spin on G1. Bumblebee was more "pure nostalgia for the 80s fans" while I would love to see, as I mentioned before, reimaginations of G1 characters. Like how Bluestreak talked incessantly due to trauma.

Hey, I’m just restating that the post here said that it is seperate from the other film franchises. I would make sense to make it under the same universe as Bumblebee but it’s been confirmed it’s not. I think the prequel just means that it will be another theatrical movie in the franchise that tries to elaborate on the lore of the franchise. If I’m wrong, then I’m wrong.

In regards to my Joker comment, I was asking if we really needed 2 seperate film continuities happening concurrently. Joker was expeclity stated to be a standalone film from the start to avoid confusion about anything not making sense in the DCEU timeline. And I want the same thing for this movie. I rather have it be a standalone film that can be enjoyed and be the film we can point to for new fans who want to be caught up on the lore vs having the Bumblebee and this new continuity running concurrently.

If this new movie's aesthetic direction is anything like the Cybertron sequences in Bumblebee movie, we'll be getting a good mix of old and new. Because for last minute additions to the film, the Cybertron Autobots and Decepticons were a fantastic blend of of this design philosophy. I think my favorite of them all is probably Brawn, because of how they radically reinterpreted the yellow portions of his G1 design into a cohesive, aesthetically pleasing whole:

Perhaps, but even still that’s no reason we can’t see more Cybertronian culture exported that isn’t just bars or Space Rome.

Maybe I’m biased, but I personally wish they would play up the fact that Cybertronians aren’t human, it would be a good way to compare and contrast between human and transformer cultures. They did that a smidge in G1 with Spike teaching Optimus basketball, or the Autobots watching Soaps. Not to get OT but in a sci-fi story I am writing a major plot point is how different human and Ashyran culture is (leading to culture shock for both species).

The G1 Marvel comics did this a bit with Ratchet having to remind himself that earth machines aren’t alive, and the Sky Spy not registering organics (mistaking a jet for a living thing).

The problem is - and this is a large reason why Lorenzo being involved is a red flag the size of the state of Texas because he is a big proponent of this kind of direction with the films - that the people producing the film don't seem to grasp the concept that the robots can have their own culture and be characterized as human like without explicitly needing the audience through a human proxy to "compare" against the robots.

The non-1986 movies all play loose with continuity, and there's many instances of them contradicting/ignoring each other, so it doesn't really seem to matter much which universe or continuity this movie is in.

So many comments on here about something called Inside Out. I looked it up. I know it's hypocritical to critique something as being childish and lame on a website about cartoon robots, but holy shit. I guess if I had children I'd have been forced to watch it, but this seems like brony territory.

I'm guessing the concept of Pixar movies are alien to you? They're all very kid friendly with dark emotional stories that surprise everyone everytime. Comparing it to MLP is sacrilege. Its so much better than 99% of transformers movie storylines.
