same. I have no idea why, but this entire time I’ve been visualizing it as a more high quality Cyberverse animation style.

You say that as if Batman never had a different costumes over the years. Batman wearing grey with light blue underwear looks nothing like Nolan's Batman, and yet he was still identifiable as Batman. Characters in superhero movies change costumes every movie but are still identifiable as those characters. These things gets thrown in the G1 bucket because Hasbro keeps using G1 designs. Comments like yours where you say people don't care about characters just because (heaven forbid) they don't use G1 ignores the fact that Transformers isn't G1, Transformers is made up many universes, and part of the fun of the series was seeing new ways of interpreting the story. Fire Convoy felt like Optimus Prime, Armada Optimus felt like Optimus and he certainly felt like Optimus in the Cybertron games.

For the record, there's nothing wrong with Hasbro using G1, but they make the mistake that many western companies make with Power Rangers where the focus too much on one aspect of the franchise. In the case of Power Rangers it's the near-obsession with Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers in all expanded media e.g. comic, tv etc.

And movie Optimus had his signature Optimus head with faceplate and antennas, window chest, grill abs, predominately red upper torso, blue legs with wheels attached, easily making an identifiable Optimus.

How about a bookends story? We could have Powermaster Prime telling old man Tommy Kennedy a story he swore he'd never tell, "but for you, I have one last story to tell". Then we do some flashbacks.

Actually we have gotten more Cybertron media in the past decade than non-cybertron media. With WfC/FoC, Siege and the comics taking place primarily off-earth.

I'd also like to see a story or two to fill in the gaps between G1 Rebirth and the start of Beast Wars.

Yeah even Cyberverse was pretty Cybertron-heavy, especially the third season. And then Siege, the entirety of IDW2 right now...I’d say Cybertron-focused stories are almost standard nowadays. (And hey I’m not complaining. No humans is great).

And I wouldn't say no to a buddy-cop comedy movie with Nightbeat and Prowl. It could be a real "Detective Pikachu" of a movie.

Exactly. If you like this storyline great, but it's a fallacy to go "geez just give us a chance for once!!!" when it's been the focus for a good long time.

I\'m hoping for a brand new continuity from this.

You know, something we\'ve had atleast Three times already in the past couple years(Cyberverse, IDW, Netflix)

The problem with no humans is that the writers feel compelled to make the cybertronians too human (MTMTE comes to mind).

I'm looking forward to this. While the franchise has been pretty Cybertron-focus lately and I'm indifferent towards the focus on Optimus and Megatron's relationship, it's true that this hasn't really been shown to the general audience and it will be pretty new to them. The overwhelmingly positive response to the Bumblebee movie's Cybertron scenes makes this a no-brainer.

Great choice of director, bad choice of writers, god I hope they don’t fuck this up.

Didn't they also say that Bumblebee is the "start of a new storytelling universe"?
In fact, why even call it a "prequel"?

I'm pretty sure no one called Joker a "prequel" to anything, besides it was made in light of how much of a mixed bag Suicide Squad was.
Separate would alienate and confuse newcomers.

    Exactly.

True. I'm for original designs like the ones we've had before from the Unicron trilogy, it's just that the Bay movies deviated the most from designs that came before it. Sideswipe, Dino/Mirage and arguably Que/Wheel Jack aren't identifiable to what their past iterations looked like. They're past recognition.

Ironhide from Energon is another example outside of the movies where an original design was way too different from how typically the character was portrayed. Even in Armada, Smokescreen and Red Alert are vastly different portrayals of the characters. As a kid growing up in the Unicron Trilogy, I never knew Red Alert was a Lambo in G1 and thought Smokescreen was Grapple.

Don't get me wrong, I still loved the characters and their roles in their respective stories, but it never registered in my brain that they were those characters. But yeah, I agree. They should divert somewhat away from G1, we've gotten so much G1 recently and as someone who's just gotten back into the fandom it's a bit overwhelming.

Though I disagree with people putting the Bee movie designs into the G1 bucket. It's very much heavily G1 inspired as one person said, but it's not completely G1 to a fault - it still follows the Bay aesthetic to a great extent, just more refined and streamlined, visually more easy on the eyes as one of my non-Transformer friends put it (scenes being directed by not-Michael Bay certainly helped too).

Godzilla fans were far more upset at the total personality change and derision towards the character than the design aspect.

Man, I saw the headline of the front-paged article, and I thought for a second that Animated was coming back.
