You act as though this has ever been done in the movies before. Optimus and Megatron shared like two scenes each in every Bay movie, and usually they just spent that time paraphrasing TF86 at one another.

    ---

If the movie is anything like Chaos Theory, it will be grand. But the bigger picture here is that Hasbro tapped another relatively obscure creator of passionate animated projects for a TF movie. I think Bumblebee really changed they're approaching these things.

The problem is that I'm just sick and tired of Optimus and Megatron. They always have to be in everything. Others might like the idea, but it really doesn't excite me. Even when they try something new with them, they fall extremely flat with me (Animated Optimus was pretty interesting, but that's just one of many, and even though different, it doesn't really turn me around into liking Optimus).

If it was about something more interesting (Rodimus Prime and characters like Nightbeat, Nautica, Minerva, Breakaway, etc.), I wouldn't be so harsh, but Optimus and Megatron... sorry, I just can't get excited when these two are around, but that's just me.

I’ll wait for a trailer before I judge anything about this movie. There’s enough Cybertron-based comics and TV episodes that this will need a bit more than the traditional “Optimus/Megatron as gladiators who have a falling out after their ideologies clash” story to draw me in.
I wasn’t a fan of Inside Out, so I remain tepidly interested in this movie for the time being. With the right story, that could change.

Wow, weird. How’d I miss that.

“After the mess Toy Story 2 was, they made more movies?” Implying a shock after seeing that there were 4 Toy Story movies made.

Everyone already gave reasons to or not to get excited about this movie. But can't help just being happy we're getting an animated movie, and I don't think I care what direction they take it as long as it's a good watch. I just don't want to get my hopes up to something Spiderverse level, would be AWESOME, but exactly because it would be too awesome.

Surprised they decided to cut loose from Bumblebee, it would be easy to just go from there.... but maybe it's good they aren't tied up to a set end outcome. I do wonder what style they are going for, can't decide I would like more, don't want it to be way too cartoony but also don't want it to bee Netflix-WFC. (suddenly imagined it in Toy Story style).

Given both Optimus and Megatron are on the forefront of the war and this being a prequel about how the war began, of course the story is gonna focus on the two faction leaders.

If it\'s not tied to any other Transformers story then I don\'t think it counts as a prequel. Still I\'m intrigued. Could be good but too early to tell.

Could have just perfectly been another kind of story. We already got prequels with War Within and the War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron games. I think those are already enough for me, at least.

Again, if it was a prequel seen through the eyes of a lesser known character and with minimal Optimus and Megatron, I would be into it, but I know I have a very unpopular mindset compared to what Hasbro wants in their fiction, so... I may not be the audience for it, but I do need to show my misgivings somehow.

Yeah PLEASE don’t just rehash IDW or previous Aligned material for this. I hope it’s a completely new take that’s never been done before.

Talk about a film dream project coming true. Would have always preferred if the Transformers were a theatrical animated film series rather than live-action.

We are part of a fandom that has no problems with a lazy shit show like Cyberverse but throws a fit when the aspect of a pixar-quality level film set exclusively on Cybertron pops up.

Honestly, a fandom like ours deserves nothing more than TF: Energon quality shows and films.

Prequel in the sense that it takes place before where the usual canon begins. Tf films and shows always start in the last days of the war either as they leave Cybertron or after they have already left Cybertron. Because this is taking place before all that, it makes sense that they'll throw around the word "prequel".

5 years ago the only thing that we knew was that we might get an animated movie. It was all up in the air. Now, we know the script is almost done AND who's actually directing it.

We should take any remarks about continuity from these sites with a major grain of salt. These leaks are good at reporting broad details, but when it comes to continuity and timelines, they're known to get stuff wrong.

Last week Deadline (a site that's reporting on this news) said that a new Star Wars show will take place in an alternate timeline. While it could be true, it seems unlikely. The general consensus is that it was just them misunderstanding the idea of a different era. I'm wondering if that's the case here too.

Female-Focused ‘Star Wars’ Series From ‘Russian Doll’s Leslye Headland In Works – Deadline

Some sites were even reporting that the Beast Wars movie is going to be set in a different timeline. Are we really going to have four different Transformer movie timelines in half-a-decade? It might work if they committed to the idea of an anthology series. But the Bumblebee sequel throws that off. It would be confusing for the general public to do one or two movies in different continuities and then jump back to the Bumblebeeverse.

Also, there's seemingly no reason for this to be set in a different timeline. If it's about the beginning of the war, it would likely be set millennia before the events of Bumblebee, so they probably wouldn't contradict much in that movie. And there's a strong possibility this movie will lean into a G1 aesthetic, judging by Hasbro's other recent projects. If so, it would fit right in with Bumblebee. I mean, it's entirely possible that there is some huge contradiction that just can't be reconciled with Bumblebee. But I find that statement kind of fishy. Until solid evidence comes out that this is indeed set in a different timeline, I'm going to assume the source here is just misunderstanding the concept of a different era.

It makes sense that this would be a different timeline if Hasbro has abandoned the idea of a Cinematic Universe, which my belief I feel they have. Much like how there isn't a DCCU anymore, and the movies are just spiritually related by virtue of being DC.

As I said above there's no reason for me to get excited about it. I don't care if it's been done as a movie or not. It has been done, period, over and over for the last decade. And it's not even a good story to begin with. If "not being a movie before" is the bar to get excited then the fandom has some weird priorities.

Clearly not most people's opinion, fortunately.
You keep saying its been done over and over when your only valid excuse is a bunch of obscure books and comics only the fans (who could afford all the books and comics, mind you) read. Heck, you didn't even know about that one short flashback in Prime. I wouldn't call that "done over and over".

I'm so happy the general consensus is a "yes, please" for this film, and I'm happy that this story is getting a proper adaptation.

And I'm happy for everyone who wants this. I just know it will not and will never be for me. Just responding to people as they quote me. The medium the story was told in does not matter. It has been told relentlessly. I'm sick of it. I've personally only read the three novels, none of the comics or anything. Haven't even played the WFC games. But the franchise has been so inundated with this story that just bores me to tears.
