I always assumed that scorponok was killed because he had no Transmetal figure. Terrorsaur has a TM figure so He must have been more for show reasons

 

Deposit PO up on Show Z now but still nothing for Rattrap. Very odd seeing as there are reviews out already.

 

Yeah, but Waspinator also had a TM figure. So did Rhinox. And they didn't get upgraded in the show. So I don't think that played a part in the writers's decisions.

Nice to see preorders for Scorponok. Hopefully preorders for Rattrap will follow soon.

It had more to do with budget. They could only do so many new CG models/characters a season. Especially back then. I know it doesn't look great now but this was a very expensive series at the time. This I believe was only the 2nd ever full CGI TV cartoon after Reboot. Reboot I think came out before Toy Story to give you an idea of how unique it was at the time. That is why you never saw many of the beast wars toys come to screen in the states. They were limited by amount of models and probably how many voice actors they could use. And even though several actors did multiple voices, I believe the union makes you pay them a certain amount per character. I don't know all the reasons, but yeah they had a lot of limits they were working around.

 

I know it was a big deal that they used cgi animation, but I had no idea it was the second ever show to do that. Kinda puts the quality of the animation in perspective, since it was a pioneering show.
But even though the animation could be better I still think it's a very watchable show.

 

I think that the efforts of the animation team can’t be commended enough for what they were working with. The majority of the technology was in its most basic form- bodies were assembled and moved as individual limbs/areas which is why there’s occasional clipping and it’s not seamless but they still got great actions that look unique to each character and the facial expressions and emoting are excellent by any standard. I‘d imagine if you handed the same technology to a modern company and said ‘make this show’ they’d weep.

 

 
That's certainly true about the facial expressions. They seem to have spent a lot of work on those. They feel very fluent and certainly played a part in why we were so invested in the show.

Transform Element

 

Rattrap and Scorpinok look way better than Blackarachnia and she’s a fun little figure that I’m totally satisfied with so I have very high expectations for the continuation of this line.

 

Yeah. The partsforming on her is a little annoying, but maybe that was just because she was their first attempt at legends scale.
She's still fun to pose, and I like her facesculpt.

 

I am so hyped for this Scorponok

 

There is other characters I want more than Scorponok, but I happy he is appearing early in the line. It gives me faith that they eventually get all the S1 characters.

 

I want an mp scorponok. And an mp inferno  

 

I think it's more that Blackarachnia is just a physically implausible design to convert into a toy that has both a show accurate robot mode and show accurate beast mode. Even the MP couldn't really pull it off and thus sacrificed the look of the beast mode.


Now Transform Element is working with designs that are at least remotely plausible, so there's no need for the partsforming (although I do wonder how they'd handle Terrorsaur and Airrazor's wings...)

 

Man I hope they change the beast mode head colour! Other than that he looks sick

Looks great, although it’s starting to look like there might not be a waist swivel which would be a bummer

 

Okay that thing looks way better than it has any right to. Would prefer him to be a little bit darker. His head is slightly purple in the cartoon but this is a bit too intense. Same with the claws. Scorponok has a very muted purple. But I'm definitely getting this now
