Did a search and didn't see a review thread for this guy. Apologies if one already exists. Was excited to get my very first review thread out there. Today, I was out picking up a couple of things and decided to do my usual routine of checking out the toy aisle at Walmart. I was on the hunt for Netflix Megatron but, I found this guy instead. When I saw him, I was intrigued. He looks alot better in person than in pictures. I decided to pick him up on a whim because I love the mold so much. I still need to pick up the G2 Alpha strike version of the mold too. Overall, I really like the battle damage on this guy. I was always the type that believed that two warring factions of Transforming robots shouldn't be clean and perfectly painted. The war has been taking place for eons and everyone has a clean, shiny, waxed, buffed out paint job? When I was a kid in the 80's, I used to put my own battle damage on a few of my action figure and Transformers guys because I always thought it looked cool. If you love this mold like I do, I'd definitely recommend picking it up. This guy deserves a 10 out of 10. No complaints. No mold degradation. Tight joints. Looks fantastic in both modes. The battle damage is gorgeous. If you're so inclined, you could paint the eyes on this figure red and switch out the Autobot logo for either a Decepticon logo or a shattered Glass Autobot logo and he'd make a really nice evil doppelganger version of Sideswipe. I won't get into the mechanics of this guy at all because this mold has been out for quite a while in multiple forms and you probably already know what you're getting here. I will provide some comparison pics though:
The red in the pictures almost looks like a rust color. The figure DOES NOT look that way in person. The red on the chest and arms is a very dull, washed out looking red.
I will add that I wish that I had the G2 Alphastrike version of this mold to include in the comparison pictures. Unrelated sidenote, I edited this comment to convey that the figure DOES NOT look rust colored as the pictures suggest. It is more of a dull red.
I'ave said it on other threads, but MAN! the battle damage/worn paint apps on these Netflix figures is so much better than the original Siege figures it's not even the same sport. I want this guy and I've previously had zero interest in this mold.
The Netflix figures have premium paint apps almost akin to the premium movie figures from the 2nd Bay Transformers movie.
I wonder if you could swap out the white bits with his Siege version, as they are all only on mushroom pegs..
You could but then you would be stuck with mismatched lower legs. The lower leg is pinned to the white upper leg.
A question for anyone who has this version - is the car body mostly grey plastic with red paint or red plastic with grey paint? I was wondering how difficult it would be to turn one of these into pretty much any of the Spy Changer/G2 Gobot color schemes, and covering grey would probably be easier than covering red, lol.
