I have one of the supposed rare PS3's that will eat multiple discs. I have 2 maybe 3 movies/games in there (if not it just crapped out with one disc in it, even more scary.) and called Sony to get it fixed under warranty. Guys says no problem, asks me for receipt, I said don't have it because it was a gift. He sends me a box to ship it and it takes 2 weeks to get here. The guy said on the phone they need a receipt, or a card charge with the date but it would have to be "evaluated". I got this piece of shit on my Birthday in June. Now I have to deal with this shit for a giant paperweight that friggin launched in mid November last year. My PS3 has now officially been more aggravation than its cost and hassles have been worth. Blueray and one game are not worth this crap. I had to send my X-box back too, but it was a 2.5 week pain free experience. My wife bought me an HD-DVD for Christmas, I gave the one I originally owned to my dad when he got me a PS3 because I though BR was going to win. Between this and my Green blob SXRD fiasco, Sony can now, SUCKA MY BULZ!

    rant over

I don't have a PS3, but does Sony not ask yo uto register your console?
If you registered it that should alleviate the receipt nonsense.

It's not difficult for whomever bought it for you to visit their credit card's web site and print out a June statement reflecting the charge for the PS3. Just black out the credit card number and any other personal info and make a copy to send in.

If it was paid for by check or debit transaction, it shows on a bank statement. All this info is available online from major banks. Simply print out, black out sensitive info, make a copy and send in.

Why would Walmart accept a return or exchange for something purchased in June or earlier? Without a receipt no less.

because they often do. I bought a 'new' 360 and when I started it up it had downloads, profiles and achievements for 6 games... really annoying.

I said the hell with them after my 2nd PS2 crapped out on me. A PS3 would have to be given to me before I ever own one. I'll never buy one.

Ah, and that's what makes me so pissed. Thats exactly what I have but they said it must be evaluated because it doesn't show the actual item being purchased, just the total price. They will inform me within a few days whether or not it will be refurbished.

That sucks man. I too had a PS3 crap out on me - my power supply died after a month or two of owning it. I called Sony they diagnosed it over the phone, and sent out a shipping container. 3 days after I dropped it off at the UPS Store, my refurbished unit arrived. Worst part was losing all my saves, since I couldn't power the unit on to transfer any data. Sucks much to hear you're having trouble. Like others said, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting the credit card company to look up the transaction and send an invoice. Good luck.

Blue Meanie, I've never heard of that happening. But then again, I don't try to insert discs when there's already one in there.

Socialvegetable, the HDD is removable, and therefore cloneable.

Comments like this, joking or not should never be posted on a public forum. I suggest removing it or put that you are kidding.

I think the wallmart Idea would work no problem, they don't care what you bring in.

I have seen people return what I would classify as trash to Walmart without a receipt and get cash money handed back to them.

    I am not kidding.

I didn't but others might, I was just being cautious. If he doesn't care, I don't either.

I know Blue Meanie was kidding, but I kind of agree with Tony.
I would never write anything like that.

It's just the state of the world these days.
People have enacted 'Plan C' before and then the news goes into all the 'warning signs'.

Again, I know he was kidding.
    I'm just saying...

well, and even then I assumed he was talking about taking the AK to his PS3, which I loled at. Though be careful man. That George Forman Grill exterior could cause your bullets to bounce back and hit you.

If Sony won't take it back and you have no other recourse, just take it apart and take the discs out.

They're probably scratched all to hell, but the actual drive may be fine.
