With the announcement of Byleth coming to Smash Bros I decided it was time to finally get Three Houses If you count Heroes for the phone this will be the third Fire Emblem game I've played.
Its 6 days early, but Happy 30th anniversary, Fire Emblem series. Speaking of which, Fire Emblem Heroes is currently doing several promotions celebrating the anniversary. One such promotion is a Free 5 Star Hero: Fire Emblem leads summoning. Basically you can get one free 5 star hero for free of a character who was a main character in one of their games. Of course, I ran into one colossal problem with this: I already own every single one of the 31 characters featured in this summoning except two: Fem Byleth and Tsubasa. Plus, given how many main characters in the series use swords, the pool is severely lopsided in favor of red units: nineteen of them. And there's seven blue units, three green units, and two colorless units. So, what do I do? Go for the 1 in 19 chance of getting Fem Byleth and summon on red? Go for the 1 in 7 chance of getting Tsubasa and summon on blue? Go for the safe route where the only three green units are Deirdre, Julia, and Hector and summon on that (even though I have all three), or go for the stupid route and summon on colorless... even though the only options are Sothe and Nanna who are regularly available in the 3 to 4 star pool. Well, here's the result: I outright screamed "YEEEEEES!!!!!" when she popped out. 1 out of 19! Oh, completely missed this question. I initially missed out on Legendary Julia when she was first released. But I got her about a month ago.
t-thats some crazy luck I rolled green trying to get Hector to fodder off his distant counter, ended with... My fifth copy of Julia lol Congrats on the legendary Julia! I've stopped playing the game recently since the devs have thrown all semblance of balance out the window, it was a grand time though. And I was able to complete a real and true Tharja Emblem, no stand-ins needed.
Heck yeah thirty years! Now that I've finally tracked down the ever-elusive Path of Radiance, I've got Fire Emblems 4-16. I've been celebrating the anniversary by working my way through the series in chronological order--playing most of the games for the first time. So far I'm still in Genealogy of the Holy War, but I've gotten to the second generation, which feels like a game unto itself. Larcei is really good if you give her the knight ring, the move ring, a high-crit silver sword, and surround her with Seliph, Oifey, and Dermot, and only put her in range of one axe enemy. I also forgot to marry Claud to anybody, so the valkyrie staff is no longer a viable substitute for good strategy. The games I'm most looking forward to are Thracia 776, Radiant Dawn, and New Heroes of Light and Shadow. But these are all sequels, so in order to get the most out of their stories, I need to finish the first games first. Thus the whole "chronological order" thing. Kinda funny that the games that most entice me are mostly the follow-up games. I might go back and play 1-3 at a later time. They look really slow, Gaiden especially, but FE 3 has such nice sprite-work I can't help but love it. It looks miles ahead of its own remake.
Larcei and Ulster are pretty good. In FE4 siblings actually get a critical bonus iirc if they're next to each other so later on if you give them wing clippers, they'll just slaughter most of the late game fliers that are sent at you if you park them next to each other. Mine were vantage astra crit ninjas anyways. I played FE3 for the first time... 2 years ago? And honestly thought it held up pretty well. 1 has really horrid inventory management and Gaiden really doesn't do anything better than Echoes imo. But FE3 book 1 is still one of my favorite Fire Emblem games.
The sibling crit thing doesn't happen often enough to make it part of my strategy, mostly because of how I place them. Like I said, I gave Larcei the leg/move ring, so she's up with my mounted units while I have Ulster visiting villages and guarding against rear reinforcements. Mine are astra, vantage, nihil, paragon, pursuit. They got Lex as their father, so if they're on the attacking end, they utterly disintegrate anybody who's not Ishtor. The problem is that they seem to only to get HP level ups. I get that's the luck of the draw, but I could do with a little more speed for my dodgetanks. Now that I've got Dermot and Nana, they can help with that. Larcei's only gotten two point of speed in sixteen level ups! Although, she also has 25 skill, so I guess I can't complain too much. 1 and 2 are really neat for what they are, but they are very, very NES. Time capsules. I think Shadow Dragon and especially Echoes blow the originals out of the water in terms of being an update. From what I see of FE 3, it looks like the first Fire Emblem game that plays like I imagine Fire Emblem to be. Just with much slower map animations. I might just be a SNES fanboy, though.
OK, gonna share some info (i.e. brag) about my recent Heroes pulls. First of all, a pity break I got a few days ago: So, what's so special about being pity broken by Ayra? Well, because as of pulling her I now have EVERY SINGLE unit (that isn't a seasonal unit) from year 1. Its a milestone. Anyway, here are a few other pulls I've gotten recently. First, from about three weeks ago: About a week ago: Yesterday: And just this morning: This is the first time I've ever gotten every single special unit on an initial summoning focus.
I got Three Houses, haven't played much, but I do like the characters and voice acting. The first fight was fine, but I imagine myself getting into it. I'll be back when I eventually complete it.
I got the baby pegasisters and quit for good. They released Say'ri and Awakening Anna and Emmeryn, I got them all and quit for good. Now they're releasing Mia and Lucina both at once with art like THIS...... One day I'll quit for good...
Aw damn, a Fire Emblem thread too? TFW's legit got everything it seems, haha. I'm a heathen, got Three Houses on release and I still have yet to get past the tutorial. Gonna change that sooner or later.
I just want a persona thread now so i can get into arguments on which png is cuter in two threads lol
Well this came out of left field: So yeah, the very first game, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, is getting a limited-time English release on Switch.
Aw, Nintendo! You did remember our anniversary! I appreciate that they've basically included all the usual emulator utility in the release, and the english text looks very nice. I despise the limited release, though. It doesn't say how long it'll be available, but I'm putting a chip on Mar 31, 2021, Nintendo's personal doomsday clock for limited releases. I'm ready for Darros to become sail.
So I pre-ordered the digital copy on my Switch last night. Time to see what the roots of this Franchise are all about.
