I don't do statues. Never saw any value in them.
    I'll get this one, though.

I'll pick this up for sure, I have the Diamond Select one, the two Hard Hero busts and the Palisades Toys statue, so this will be a nice addition to the collection.

I guess it’s for the type of collectors that don’t want their figures to move and just display them

I had a certain feeling before clicking on this thread that there’d be at least two people seriously interested in this. And you didn’t disappoint. :D

I’d love a Shockwave statue but I can’t get into the statue game, there’s too many that I’d want. Looks cool though.

I would make an exception for a perfect representation of SW from the cover of Marvel issue #5.

Most of us who buy statues do so because they are representations of the character that are more detailed, the look is not hurt by joints and seams, and they look more like 2d artwork turned into 3d. Prime1 Transformer statues are tremendously more detailed, realistic, and outright beautiful than any of the best action figure offerings. Their Beast Wars Megatron for example is so amazing and eye catching that it even puts the excellent masterpiece figure version to shame. With transformers statues though, you can have a robot so crazy stylized or ones so G1 toon accurate with bent surfaces and exaggerated proportions that there is no way they could really transform into their supposed alt mode.
I personally collect more female character statues than any others, because for me Transformers are about the fun of 2 modes and posing, and bots can get away with joint seams with no repercussions to the aesthetic, whereas there is no Chun li figure (aside from Phicen/TBleague custom assembled) that doesn't suffer from ugly joint seams, especially in the knees. Sometimes high end figures like ones by Hot Toys are damn close to statue perfection and very realistic, but some might prefer an awesome posed Batman on a ledge with his cape flowing around him looking like a comic cover by a favorite artist in glorious beautifully painted 3D over a figure.

I think we collect primarily to appease other systems of value. Such as intrinsic and sentimental values.
Toys, specifically the manipulation of, feed into our sentimental value because of our experiences as a child. Statues touch on these two types of values in a different way. Without ever looking at the $800 price tag. :D

I hear you, but isnt "Transformation" the gimmick that brings appeal to the franchise ? Does someone who spends $1500 or more on a statue really love what makes the brand unique from other science fictional chatacters ? While the statues do homage characters, they do nothing to glorify the brands namesake. They might as well be collecting cherubs.

Other brands don't have robots made out of car parts. But really, I collect non-transforming Transformers because they're the best looking representation of the characters I like. Some find value in something that transforms, but others like me find value in perfection (robot mode wise). Plus, I barely touch my figures these days so the transformation gimmick isn't a 'must-have' for me.

I guess it all boils down to the argument of how "accurate" do you consider accuracy ? Obviously artwork on paper wasnt designed to explore the ability of transformation. But when you take a drawing (especially of a character that never had a toy) and you make it transform, youve brought it to life. Theoretically, you could make a 3D sculpture of any drawing and "bring it to life", but I would ask you this: If Transformers didnt transform since day one, would they be mainstream today ? Or would they be Stariors, Robotix, or some other obscure 1980's franchise nobody gives a crap about ? Im not knocking you for being satisfied with the best representation of robot mode only. Im simply questioning if you would even remember Transformers existed if they didnt transform ? If you collect all kinds of statues, I totally get it. However if your a Transformers fan who only buys statues of Transformers and no other statues, I dont get it.

I feel that way about almost all transformers that don't transform because we have seen near perfect looking transforming figures of these characters made plenty of time, with great articulation, and looking almost statue perfect. It's just that with statues you often get better paint work and either more realism or better toon accuracy. I still don't buy transformer statues though because they usually cost too much for what they are- which is just something to look at only. I'd like to have some of those Prime1 statues, but not for $1000 or more. The appeal of statues is more about character than gimmick, even in a brand like transformers that is literally altogether based on the gimmick. We love a lot of those for the characters as much or more than the transforming thing. Using the same example again, but nothing captures the awesomeness of Beast Wars Megatron like the Prime1 statue. Not even the visuals of show he came from or the MP figure.

I'm not arguing that non-transforming figures are better than transforming figures because that just depends on what you value. They both serve a purpose. I like Transformers because the concept of everyday things turning into a giant robot is neat as hell. From there, it has transcended into liking the characters themselves. Non-transforming figures are still able to capture that for me by the details of their alt mode present throughout the bot mode and well, it looks like the character itself. Non-transforming figures do make a sacrifice on the transforming concept, however, then you can say transforming figures make a sacrifice on the character design. I've dipped my toes into collecting 3A figures and I confidently say there is no way anyone will be able to make a transforming figure of BB Prime look as great as his 3A counterpart.
