Yeah, not to open that bag but I've voiced my opinion on some of their engineering. I mean, how do you manage to make a joint look bad when it's covered by cloth? Let's see how this new seamless body works out for them. I didn't buy it because I don't like Keaton as Batman but I am curious to see how that figure is.

Haha, I get this perspective too. Honestly, it's not borderline for me, I do hate this company. I don't like the way they do business and I don't like a lot of their design choices. Problem for me is when they do something right, I can't pass it up, lol!

Oh completely I’ll take a massive shit on them and then happily tell you I love Diabolik, Popeye and Frankenstein. They are truly stunning and I mean stunning awesome figures I never thought would get done this well. I am probably in the minority of people who think their Frazetta Conan is well executed and a must have. But that is precisely why when I look at Cyke and Hal I want to beat them within an inch of their lives. How do you go back and forth from brilliant to a head injury victim in the space of moments. So frustrating.

Then get some self restraint. Bro if I hated a company as much as you talk greasy about Mezco I wouldn't buy shit from them. Straight up.

I definitely wouldn't spend a length of time in their thread just to piss on them.

I think you’re missing the point of the criticism. He hates when they fuck up because when they don’t they’re brilliant. Unlike say Hasbro who just has suck on a consistent slow burn.

Are we looking at the same figures? Their Hal looks great, but I cannot find a lot of good things to say about their Superman.

It wasn’t until they started doing stylized takes that many of us started paying attention. From Deathstroke to Popeye, they’ve had some really incredible releases. Not everything is perfect and there’s a lot I’m not interested in, but they’ve definitely had more ups then downs.

I think as far as finishing lines, if people aren't buying, why keep making them? I know their Star Trek figures are well regarded, but if no one bought them, what are they supposed to do. Keep going deeper with lines that make them no money? I feel no one truly understands how small their operation is. You can't put out products that just aren't selling. QMx has taken years to work on their 1/6 Trek figure and they're still a disaster. Trek just doesn't sell.

For Marvel and their movie stuff, I think they took whatever they could get. I can't see them looking at an opportunity to make Infinity War figures and were like 'nah.' They made Thor Ragnarok, Black Panther, and Spider-Man figures and I think that was it for movie figures. They probably were only able to secure rights to those movies. I would imagine if they did Infinity War it'd be a large undertaking and Marvel may have wanted them to do an entire line like Hot Toys and they aren't capable.

Hal looks fucking terrible so we obviously aren’t looking at the same figure. And really the Superman looks pretty shit too because of the shiny disco blue. Hal’s also coming down in price too. Not exactly selling out. Had they made him recognizable he might. And Jesus really great job on his actual Lantern sure a lot of people are pulling that out of the box.

I have no idea why Star Trek didn’t sell and I don’t blame them for dropping the line if it didn’t but none of that changes the fact that they’re releases are a hodgepodge mess of varying things that don’t go together. You can make excuses for them and hey that may 100% be your thing; that this is a brilliant artistic endeavor. But at the end of the day I pretty much want a cohesive line that looks good together and Mezco simply doesn’t deliver that. It’s a bunch of random releases. Perhaps their idea is creating cohesion out of they own “takes” on things. Like you’ve got their quirky Moon Knight that goes great with their quirky Sea Enema and their quirky Hal Jordan. But that’s a hell of a way to make a toyline work.

Hasbro gets more of a slide because they're retail level. Yeah, I could say a lot about them but for the price point they do ok. Just ok though.

(The shift towards maximum profits in the 2000s really hurt the quality of figures. Hasbro is a big reason for making the toy market that way.)

    My 2 cents -

I'd love a line with the articulation, style, quality, and character choice that I want...but I'm also not going to ever have that unless I start my own company. Since I'm not going to do that, I'm stuck relying on what real companies make. To a certain extent, I can vote with my purchases, but I know I'm just a single customer and it would take a large number to matter so I don't feel like my personal wallet has that much power in the end.

There is SO much cool product out there I've long since come to terms with not having everything and have focused on certain properties and certain eras within them. My biggest frustrations come when A) the design or character I finally want gets made and it sucks OR B) the design or character I finally want gets made and it is *almost* perfect. In the first case, I've waited for a particular look and am completely let down and know I'll have to wait a long time for another take. I almost feel the second is worse - this is the classic "figure is great, but they botched the headsculpt" situation. In A, someone will likely take another crack and do it much better (see some of the updated ML). In B, it isn't clear it will get done better.

Anyway, as this applies to Mezco, lots of their own IP is neat, but just not my cup of tea, so I pass. I had high hopes for them when it came to the JL, but got a new custom suit for sups and a new head for Flash (2 of the ones I care most about their looks). As much as I want classic, that just isn't their bag. Some characters that matters more to me than others. Punisher? Im fine with the flair. superman? nope. When they're on song, they're amazing and I buy. I do get frustration, because they *could* really nail some classic looks, but that goes back to my first paragraph - we're not in charge and are still comparing our made up expectations to what those who are in charge chose to put out. Fair game to criticize price, quality, accessories, design, articulation, etc, but in the end just buy or don't based on that.

Yeah, this pretty much hits all the points. I will say that Mezco is usually great on accessories...They make some of the best and are one of the most generous when it comes to them. That being the case, maybe they could just include classic look parts as accessories when they do decide to put their own flair on stuff. Some swashbuckling boots and gloves for Cap as an extra would have went a long way to make that a nearly perfect release. When I'm paying around $100 for a 1/12 figure, I don't want to have to go out and find accessories that could nearly double the cost just to make the figure to my liking.

From my perspective, the constant delays are the bigger sin. I very rarely cancel a preorder but I cancelled movie WW after over six months of their foot dragging. Turned me off of ordering Catwoman, which was delayed and clearanced. So why order Captain Marvel when I can get a deal six months after six months of delays? If not, no big deal, clothed 1:12 is a gimmick anyway. Too bad about McCoy but I still have two cases of Kirk that maybe two customers have ever even glanced at.

It’s so funny I am not even a ST fan but when I saw Spock I was like I have to have those main three right? Fuck even Sulu, Uhura and Scotty sure BUT definitely Kirk, Spock and McCoy right? If you’re gonna get an OG Star Trek collection those three are THE three. But nope, no McCoy. Hard not to see that as a bit of a fuck you to people who purchased their first three releases. It’s a ridiculous character to leave out.

If I had a top ten, one of these would definitely be in it...

    Just out of curiosity here...

Do you think the Mezco will give a teaser this month in regards to the next release?

Last month was the Jack Kirby-isk Baron Bends and nothing else.

I'm assuming they're slowing down, maybe production stuff with the virus or catching up on older figures not yet released. The Supreme Knight Batman figures were supposed to be May releases I think.

Has anyone received shipping notice for Baron Bends? It was listed as instock and I purchased it a when it went up a couple weeks ago now.

I’m wondering if they put out that coloring contest to have a fan come up with a cool repaint to get more use out of the mold like they have been doing with the countless Gomez releases.

Pfft, that's nothing. Harley hasn't dropped yet and THAT was originally a DECEMBER release.

Honestly, I give it another month minimum. Call it end of May.

Mezco still hasn't sent out Carol Danvers either. Harley and Carol should be out May - June according to the website.

I don't quite understand the Baron Bends release delay unless they only shipped a few over for review? D-Amazing did a full review even before the preorder went up. I had assumed Mezco had all those figures on hand when they have people review them like that.

I wouldn't be surprised if D Amazing gets early samples. He had Cyclops and Hal a good month or so before they released here in Taiwan.
