The resurrected Magnus used the Laser Optimus mold as noted. It's a REASONABLY GOOD figure and with a Super Megatron level retool -- AND NO STICKERS -- he'd be great. It fits with Gen Selects giving people post-death bodies earlier in the timeline.

I'm now questioning if Siege Magnus could be retooled with his RiD robot mode. It would be a heck of a companion to the rumored mainline Fire Convoy. The inner truck robot would need to have blue elbows and legs and blue and white hands. The only way I see that working is as Lucky Draw Black God Magnus which would end up looking like Grand Scourge or Primitive Convoy.

If we're down for nutty ideas, I'd be up for retooling the shoulder towers, head, and chest of Siege Magnus into a Laser Optimus. The head would become an Optimus helmet. The shoulder towers would have laser prime detailing. The chest armor would look like Laser Prime's.

You could then have a White Prime, Basic Convoy/Optimus, and Scourge who convert from G1 to G2 Magnus, Laser/Battle, Shattered Glass Magnus, and Scourge by armoring up.

It leaves the vehicle modes as an RiD Magnus homage of sorts but Star Convoy didn't respect the vehicle mode either.

 

Thing is, if we're playing "woulda shoulda coulda", I'd prefer TR Optimus/Octane as the base for Star Convoy. He had a head tooled for that purpose and the mass retail U.S. release used a very Star Convoy inspired deco (although Japan didn't get that so a retool with full on Star Convoy homage would work).

The shoulder towers flip back and you could have turrets mount there.

Eliminate the jet mode and you could get a nice Voyager Star Convoy companion to Super Megs and they'd scale better with combiners.





Look closely at TR Voyager Optimus headlights in robot mode. Like I say, Hasbro/Takara already designed a Star Convoy head.

A new chest panel, the alternate head, turrets that clip where the shoulders fold back, a retooled trailer without a jet mode, extra paint. Perfect Star Convoy for this Super Megs.

If they wanted beefy leaders, TR Ginrai would have been a better basis for Star Convoy. No unnecessary intermediate robot mode, a credible base mode, easy to tool as a non-headmaster because the helmet is already bulky enough to require full head storage.

I'd make a few changes but this is a better figure than PotP:

 

Plus, Takara doesn't have their own Liokaiser. Since POTP introduced combiner pegs with hidden peg holes, they can go right ahead and give the Breastforce their animal-gun-armor buddies.

I can't be the only one who's noticed that, right? (Although in fairness, they'd probably have to make the other components of Liokaiser that aren’t the jets new molds, so that puts a damper on the potentiality of putting them in Takara's Generations Selects line...)

 

I think Star Convoy from PotP Optimus was spawned from the time period where the evolution gimmick was first and foremost on designers minds. Even Super Megatron is incorporating an evolution gimmick. I wish that wasn't the starting place because I like your idea of TR Optimus better too. But we're apparently stuck with what we've got because A led to B instead of C leading to B...

 

I can see them retooling some armor parts to further evoke God Magnus in robot mode at least. As for G2 Laser Prime though I get what you're saying but I can also see how it wouldn't sit well with folks who want a more definitive larger scale G1 Laser Optimus in a time where Hasbro's taking a more serious collector focus this time around. Not saying that your idea's bad or anything it isn't.

 

There would have been plenty of other criticisms if they went for one of those Primes for Star Convoy. I said it before but this is just a generations update and I think the only way to properly do the TV Magazine/Manga/Studio Ox Star Convoy in both modes - as well capture that late G1 super robot styling - is to give him the Masterpiece treatment. If Takara doesn't give us that, I'm sure sooner or later a 3P will jump on this (no, not talking about MMC's oversized Reformatted version).

Checked EB Games Canada. No Super Megatron, but they do have Sunstreaker and Trailbreaker for pre-order.

 

Theres 3 heads, idk the version names but ill say theres a battle mask one, one with a red rectangle(super head?) And one with a gray rectangle (g1?)

 

This might be the best megatron toy to date, not only does he have his signature tank mode and his signature jet mode he has I think 3 separate robot modes and I\'m pretty sure 3 head or power masters. I\'m pretty sure he has two chest power master ports meaning he could have max playability. Also, I love the red accents. As cool as g1 megs is the gray is sort of bland. And dont get me wrong I\'m a hardcore g1ner but siege just didnt do it for me

the face is independent from the forehead

 

He has two robot modes, and his faces aren't Titan/Prime Masters so he likely has no Prime Master slots.
