Both Soundwave and Blaster "mass shifted" regularly throughout the G1 series. Is it hard to imagine either of their tape crews doing the same thing?

And using a pencil to “rewind” the tape. Twirling was so much fun

ok but these characters aren't normal cassettes. They are mini cassettes, which is a real thing. So these figures technically have a more in accurate alt mode, not just in the size but also some of the sculpt.

And if you want in scale bots to display, we'd be much better off with high end non-transforming.

Hey buy whatever you want, I'm just saying these don't make sense to me

They're robots that turn into minicassettes to disguise themselves, but in robot mode they are much larger via mass-shifting than the mass of a mere minicassette. MMC/OX has solved for that by going for botmode scale and then having the alt mode still become a cassette, just a full-size one. Which is awesome.

Actually, these are very toon oriented. In the cartoon, they didn't turn into mini cassettes. They turned into regular cassettes. Also, it's totally cool to not understand the appeal of a figure, but don't for a minute think that just because you don't make sense of owning it that it doesn't make sense. People were saying that McFarlane was crazy to start a kickstarter for his Spawn toy, and that it wouldn't have any appeal... well, it's over a million dollars now with a goal of only $100,000. In the world of collectibles, ANYTHING makes sense and ANYTHING can happen.

I’d say it matters when your altmode is a flat rectangle and the only reason you exist is to be put into a tape player.

The size prevents the tapes from doing the only thing they could normally do. So if these are going to be purely for bot mode, than it would be better if they didn’t have to limit themselves by including a transformation.

if anybody out there has these mmc tapes on their shelf in cassette mode, I’d love to see it.

PS in the G1 cartoon the cassette sure look more like minis than regular cassettes, even if they were the size of a pizza box.

This is very screwy logic. “Just because they shouldn’t means it’d be better if they can’t”.

Like what’s stopping us? Really? Non-transforming figures are still a slowly growing market anyway. It’s perfectly normal to make them transform.

You’re kinda getting hung up on what is a really simple matter. The cassette robots were kinda bigger in the show so MMC made an alternate version that is bigger. It comes at the cost of not fitting in the chest, but it’s a compromise for better articulation. And as a bonus, the cassettes retain the role play aspect of the originals, albeit in a different way.

I have the cases lined up on a shelf along with gun-mode MP-29 and MP-5 because while I display the main collection S1-S2 cast in botmodes, MP-36 replaced MP-5 and MP-29+ replaced MP-29 and the ones they were replacing happened to have nice gun modes to display and the cassette cases are cool.

The only reason the ReMix line exists is that Alex Kubalsky wanted to make a larger Ravage.

That's okay, the only reason any of these third parties exists is because someone was a fan of TFs enough to make it happen.

Jaguar proved there's a market for better-scaled botmode cassette-bots, and other than the birds being a little too large (but still great desk toys), they're all pretty awesome.

I would love a larger Soundwave that could hold the MMC tapes.

I think they’ve joked about that happening one day. Would be an interesting thing. Perhaps if there was a KO large enough to hold them.

since you guys are on the topic.. i love having fun with repaints. these are definitely not an indication of anything that's planned, i just like playing with my digital toys :)

(also before anyone asks, i have no new information on the status of the tapes, sorry!)

    you didn’t understand my point

non transforming cassette warriors could have better proportions, better sculpts, and better articulation because they aren’t limited by needing to transform.

I don’t really care for non-transforming figures but clearly the vast majority of the people buying these figures want them because the bot modes scale better with MPs

it is my opinion that the change in side does not retain any of the role play aspects of the originals

now you may not agree with my 3rd point, and you could be one of the few that wants to display cassette tapes on your selves but I’m guessing that if you are looking to get these figures you want for the bots.

I guess you were too young to listen to some Wu-Tang, Snoop Doggy Dogg or Nirvana on your walkman on the way to school. Nostalgia, dude. The transformation are actually pretty cool. I do have my Frenzy in the cassette case with Rumble hanging out in robot mode. I can post a pic later if I remember, but I'm going to bed.
