We all know you think it shouldn't be made, that it won't work and that Hollywood should stop remaking movies. But avoid that response (I know that you won't) and try to think of who would work in the best possible scenario for when it does happen. HM - Edit in- Fede Alvarez Jordan Vogt-Roberts Alexandre Aja - Crawl was a decent movie in the same genre. Gareth Edwards - Good visually, can direct great monster scenes. Not sure how exciting though. 5. Colin Trevorrow - Similar to above, bit better at more exciting scenes in movies but a bit more bland thematically and visually. 4. Jordan Peele - Could be an interesting one, there's scenes in US that have visuals that could work really well. 3. Michael Dougherty - Not bad all, Krampus and Godzilla, King of The Monsters are full of scenes that could translate to Jaws really well. 2. Robert Eggers - Since you can't top the original, this is probably the guy that can go with the most different spin. An odder choice but definitely the one with the most potential for an interesting final product. 1. Steven Spielberg - Just bring him back to do it, right? Number one choice but potential to also be the worst choice since he has been a bit off.
Kevin Smith is said to be doing a "Jaws Remake" but with a moose instead of a shark. No I'm not joking.
He's had that idea for over 5 years but couldn't get it made. Maybe the new Jay and Silent Bob did well enough for him to get things rolling.
Confused by a couple things tbh. The first is Fede Alvarez and Crawl, since he did not direct that movie. Second, I don't the idea of Jaws needing to be exciting. Suspenseful, sure, but we shouldn't see the actual shark that much. It's why I think out of that list, Edwards might be the best choice for this, because what he did with Godzilla 2014 actually would translate quite well in a Jaws film. Eggers I don't think would have much interest nor would his style really translate, even if he is one of my fave directors right now along with Ari Aster. Jeremy Saulnier might be a better choice (he did Green Room, Blue Ruin) because his suspense and buildup is incredible, but he can hit the payoff of that suspense with louder setpieces too.
Oh yeah Alexandre Aja because of Crawl. But keep Fede Alvarez on the list anyway for stuff like Don't Breathe. Maybe even Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Kong: Skull Island is literally a creature feature set in the 70's with great monster scenes and a great sense for adoration for that type of movie.
