I think we’ll get all these siege and Earthrise Tank Megs, then they’ll finish off the tank obsession with G2 Megs with an accurate mold and accurate paint. Then, hopefully, we’ll get Megatrons from other continuities.

The term "G1" is used so much, it has no meaning anymore. At first, like the Wikipedia entry states, I thought G1 was the toy line that ran from 1984 to 1990 and was produced by Hasbro.

If that is correct, it doesn't make sense that a Siege or Earthrise figure is labeled "G1".

Also, for Walmart naming conventions, the figures which are re-issues of actual G1 figures have the term "Vintage" in them. That's another reason these are not actually reissues of the 1984 versions.

So these are modern Transformers and, as stated a few times already, probably just REDecos of these two figures, with "G1" thrown in their names:

(Although I do enjoy the speculation game!)

Ohh, that was the G2 repaint? I actually own that already.... Probably best I just move on to the complaining phase, then.

Cant say im a comic deco fan. Didnt they paint his head black just for the sake of being black ? And then Galvy gets sven worse with the shampoo bottle looking head. Im good. Im guessing these are more likely bizzare repaints like the Blitzwing Astrotrain set that came out a few years ago. And we actually did get a red gun megatron a few years back also. (Nerf winged Megs)

I agree that it probably won't be vintage reissues. But red redecos is Target's game, not Walmart's. I don't think it'll be red Siege figures.

    _____

On a side note, typing in "red transformers" into the Walmart search bar brought up some nifty items I'd never seen before - new decoys?

Has anyone suggested that both figures are red Doubledealer re-uses - MW Soundwave and Darksyde Megatron with his TM3 deco? I get the G1 part doesn't work, but G1 is becoming whatever we want it to be

I just hope its not another re-use of Siege Megatron, it is time to jump over to the Earthrise variant of the mold. I'd love to see the purple/black Hero colors on it, but the green forest colors would also be fine (if the green were darker and the purple were severely muted). As for Soundwave, it probably is the Siege mold without battle damage and with the red visor. They really haven't used that mold very much compared to Megs or the Seeker, only the initial Soundwave (which is pretty hard to find now) and the shelfwarming Soundblaster. I'd go for Marvel purple/light blue Soundwave, but that feels more like something for Selects to do.

Well, I don't know if they are connected. None of the TFC eraser mini figures are described as "red" in their listings. BUT, Megatron and Soundwave are notably missing. I think the main thing here is that these aren't sold directly by Walmart...

That's the definition I go by too. While I do display reissues with my vintage figures, I still don't consider them "G1" or "vintage". With modern lines, what I want is "G1 inspired" designs. I would never consider them actual G1 figures. Don't even get me started on the people who call IDW comics G1.

I use that definition as well (with some grey allowed for post-1990 international releases). Although, I do consider the reissues "G1" if they are using the exact same mold from that era. I personally prefer "G1 reissue" or "Vintage reissue" to predicate that these are not originals, though.

IDW v1, at best, is "G1 inspired". But so is Animated, Cyberverse, etc. and we don't call those officially "G1" - so I agree that IDW v1 is just IDW v1. The new IDW Transformers (and Netflix War For Cybertron) is probably closer to a "G1 Redux" - it's recreating the G1 era by retelling the exact story in a modern way.
