What would you guys consider a good Zeonic counterpart to the MG GM Sniper Custom? The easy answer is the Zaku 2.0, but I want something... zestier.
Couldn’t resist and broke open my PG Exia, that light purple on that visor isn’t showing up well at all :/
Finishing the rear skirts, and seeing a plan come together!! Fun fact!! You can omit the brackets which clip to the undersides of the skirts that hold the LED units in place if you're not using that expansion set, but using them keeps the skirt armor from colliding with each other and spaces them evenly against the hips. It was Leg Night, which started with some touch ups to the Navy Blue paint on the feet, including some much needed repairs on the soles from chafing against the display stand. I really should clear coat them with some Pledge to protect them better. I'll do that when I get closer to finishing. Now for the tricky parts. The armor they want you to assemble WITH the frame parts on the shins, and the armor over the sides of the ankle which are supposed to go on BEFORE you lay on that smaller front piece of psychoframe plating. Fortunately there is enough room to gently tilt them into place without wrecking the paint. More selective 'Unchained' shifting for the large Lichtblau paintes ankle armor, I made the minor error of not cleaning the excess paint out of those channels, but, it will loosen up eventually. I'm touching up the undercoating of the moving panels for the outsides of the legs, but the larger framing parts are ready to go on. The good news is that makes every hand painted piece of armor which has been suspended from clip rods on my cat boards is now accounted for and attached. I have a few more parts I want to paint in Lichtblau put aside and everything for the head is sorted and partially assembled. I still need to finish detailing the missing plates, but this is where I call it a night. Now, this is for science!! I need a volunteer; anyone who has built the PG Unicorn or even the Banshee, preferably straight built or with decals and detailing, if you have access to a scale (kitchen, bathroom, etc) could you see how much the kit weighs? I just want to see if there is a difference with all of the paint I've used.
the RGM-89 always did have an instant appeal to me, from first sight over 20 years ago, since, being a rather typical product of it's time, it so closely resembled some of the very first Mecha designs i came to know as a young boy, all from SEGA MEGA DRIVE/GENESIS games such as FINAL ZONE AXIS and ASSAULT SUIT LEYNOS; K-19 PHANTOM (FINAL ZONE AXIS) AS-5E3 LEYNOS (ASSAULT SUIT LEYNOS) RGM-89 JEGAN (CHAR's COUNTERATTACK)
So I finished the MG Double X. Took me about five hours, but I was also talking to my girlfriend, and when she went to go play Animal Crossing with her sister I decided to actually watch Gundam X while I built it, and I took a few minutes to watch my dog run around the yard until he was tuckered out because he kept pacing and talking in front of me which is code for “I have to run and I don’t expect you to understand why.” A lot of distractions, so realistically actual build time was more like four hours. I had a lot of nostalgia for the build due to how similar to the Wing MGs it is, yet different. I also love that it came with a little Tiffa. I love the included pilot figures of MGs and RGs because of the scale it creates, but I love it more when Bandai includes supporting characters. But it does mean I have to wait until I get the vanilla X until I can have Garrod. (Also, a MG X Divider with Jamil would have been cool) It’s a really nice kit overall, but dated. Mould lines, lack of intricate build on the cannons (but resulting in better stability due to the light weight) and great but not jaw-dropping articulation. Still, I like how clean and simple it is, with just enough added details here and there to stop it from looking plain. I dig it.
It's kinda funny that it can be considered "outdated", on the grounds that, while it was released 5 years ago, due to Bandai's slowed release schedule for the MG lineup, the MG Double X is roughly the tenth most recent unique MG mold.
Some more paint on the helmet, I'm going to paint those vulcan barrels in gunship gray, which means I might be painting the gun barrels for the beam magnum and gatling guns too.
So what the licensed Gundam kits? i searched the internet and found nothing. i know of the new hello kitty and Mazinkaiser infinitism. what else is there?
Even disregarding the P-Bandai variants, a large majority of the MGs released after the Double X were GM variants or Build Series remodels, or updated re-releases like the 00 Qan[T] Full Saber or S/Ex-S. Looking at Dalong's chronology, the unique frames to be released after the Double X were the Hyaku Shiki 2.0, the V2 ver. KA, the Freedom 2.0, the ZZ ver KA, the F91 2.0, the Jegan, the Dynames, the Alex 2.0, Lunamaria's Zaku Gunner Warrior, and the Barbatos. And the MG F90 is also in that mix somewhere, but was P-Bandai. I count 27 mass-release MGs after the Double X, showcasing only 9 brand-new toolings in that mix (10 if you include the F90).
Are we counting Kyrios as a retool for Dynames? We don't know the full extent of the GN Frame runner use for it yet.
I was only counting currently released models, not the ones due for the future. And I'm assuming that some of the Dynames will be reused, so I wouldn't count it anyways. I didn't count the Deep Striker, either.
IIRC, all the MG 00 Gundam has the same or similar inner frame with the space in the middle of the chest for the GN Drive (00 and Qan-T as well, even though 00's GN Drives are elsewhere), I'm assuming Kyrios, and probably Virtue/Nadleeh will have the same or similar inner frame as well.
Yeah, I got to agree that Bandai’s releases of MG kits have slowed down...that’s one of the main reasons I have stopped building kits. Some of the decision-making process is indeed head scratching. For example, why did Bandai not release a MG Burning Gundam from the Build Fighters Try series? Or even a Zaku II from Origin? If I’m not mistaken, most of the MS were skipped from the above mentioned series? My gut feel is that Bandai is gunning for the kids’ market hence focusing on the HG kits such as Build Fighters etc.
