It’s pretty clear as to why this wasn’t intentional. All of these robot designs were slapped together last minute and some of the parts of these robots are legit recycled from one another. There really is no deep meaning behind this autobot symbol that IIRC wasn’t even visible in the film. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why it wasn’t intentional.

 

Wasn't he just a Senator who worked with Orion Pax? I don't think he was ever an Autobot.

This thread made me realise we are the English teachers of the live action movies.

Knight: We were suddenly tasked to create a dozen models from scratch in 3 months and the deadline was coming close, so my CGI team started reusing recolored pieces for many characters at once. Given the time constrains and the fact audiences probably won't care about the little nitpicks we have, like how we left Prime's Autobot symbol on Shockwave.

Us: Shockwave having an Autobot symbol is foreshadowing to a solo film where he duels Optimus Prime on pre-war Cybertron to 80s rock music and rips his arm off to claim as a trophy.

 

They're just throwing animation errors in as throwbacks to the OG shows, lol.

No. Gonna have to disagree. Why? 1)Bumblebee (even though there are slight bayverse elements) is not a bayverse film; 2)That term was used ONLY by the Autobots in the 2007 film, specifically when Optimus introduces himself to Sam, after finding out he is the descendant of Archibald Witwicky-Decepticons never called themselves that; 3)That term was only used in bayverse. Also, as stated before, the autobot sigil on Shockwave is a production mistake, comically appropriate since G1 had tons of similar mistakes, LOL!

 

Not only Bayverse film, Transformers Prime used similar concept too when Optimus Prime introduces himself and his comrades to humans. The backstory between Optimus and Megatron narrated by Ratchet further utilized that idea.

We can’t even see Autobot symbol on Shockwave in the actual film. It was only discovered in concept art. So it doesn’t matter much at the end of the day.
