Actually, there was some discussion in the writer's room over if Megatron X could be Cyberverse Galvatron.

Glad we didn't get genderswapped Jazz. Sorry, but actually be creative and create a new character. Or bring an obscure one to the fore.

    Who is Lightbright?

Killing Megatron off would have been interesting.

That was another poster who said that. What I said was that CW has a history of pushing shows well past what their ratings would support.

And I'm sure you're going to provide a quote showing that. Right, you're just upset that I had tangible evidence of how shittily BW CHUG figs did and you took it personally.

Sometimes all it takes is the right example, and fate would have it that this landed in our laps.

@G1Prowl You keep talking about data and facts but you haven't really exactly backed up your claims with actual statistics and pictures of your claims. If you're trying to tell people you got your facts straight you haven't really done a solid job at doing that which is why some people are thinking you're only saying things because you're biased.

no, you had your own personal experience to show bw chugs didnt sell well. yet bbts still has other thrilling 30 figures in stock and you are citing how they sold poorly (yet only one of the t30 bw figures is still in stock). that is a fact you refuse to accept. your arguments are poorly thought out and biased and you dont ever actually provide any proof other than talking out of you ass

it was a pretty a pretty decent show and better than certain show like (rid 2015, energon, cybertron, and others) and i wouldn’t call it lazy or no talent it show difference from previous shows and gives characters new imaginings

the show wasn’t a waste of time in my opinion it was actually a pretty decent series and i would rank it about where tf animated is ranked

i guess people just don’t like well known characters gender swapped

i wouldn’t say the show will be forgotten people pretty much enjoyed it and it is the only good show we had since prime and gender swapping isn’t the craziest thing but at least we get new takes on the characters like who wants the same thing over and over again

@Tfcollector97 There is a multiquote button on every post. It allows you to address multiple people in one entry which prevents the thread from being eaten up by repeated entries by the same person, and makes the thread easier to navigate.

You confuse BBTS with a brick and mortar store like Walmart and Target solely to validate your off base point, and you accuse ME of talking out of my ass and being biased?!?!?!?!?!?!

Only in this board you'd have adult men losing their marbles at a laid back jokey QA. "Unprofessional Interview" is fucking funny.

Bullshit. How many 6-8 year olds go to BBTS with Mom and Dad and bounce up and down in the toy aisle asking for the latest Bee/Prime/Starscream/Whatever? It's a false equivalence used only by collectors who also falsely think we carry the brand.

So you’re not going to give up your crusade? Ok. Retail is retail and the fact is that more g1 t30 figures are still available at retail (not the secondary market) than t30 figures, but sure, continue your witch hunt

Also, this has nothing to do with the topic, so this side discussion is over

So continue with false equivalence while screaming "last word", at least you're consistent.

Back to the topic at hand: knowing the mindset of at least one of the writers of the show, is anyone's opinion on the show changed? I still view it as no better or worse than any other bit of TF fiction. Except the Prime Wars nonsense, that stuff makes Energon look on par with the upper tiers of fanworshipped series.

Having just watched an episode written by said writer, it seems like none of her shipping preferences/likes are even implied in the show beyond characters being friendly or antagonistic to each other. (so every Transformers show). This kind of stuff is filtered when there's a full writing team and IP owner oversight. My opinion is the same as ever, a decent show, that's all.

A strange thing about this show is the amount of references to other Transformers media, but that's something even the live action movies contain.

I think it's fine to have a laid back and jokey Q&A as long as it's done tastefully. For instance, Taika Waititi is very good at that. The problem with this isn't that jokes are present, it's that they're not particularly funny or clever or mature. The problem isn't humor, the problem is that it reads like a teenager talking about their fanfiction.

See, I'd argue it should feel professional, because this is an interview by a professional who's representing a professional brand. Humor can have a place in a professional setting. But there should also be a level of maturity present.

I've only seen the first season, so I can only speak about that.

This interview doesn't change my thoughts on the season, it pretty much lines up with my thoughts on it, actually. I feel like the first season is exactly what I'd expect based on this interview. It kind of felt like a fan-film to me. A lot of fan-film hallmarks are there. Seeing the "isn't that cool" mentality of this writer completely makes sense to me. That's sort of what you see in fanfiction. A lot of doing stuff because it's cool, not because it makes a good story. "Humans distract from the Transformers" is also a very fan-film attitude to me. As is "we want to include every character ever". In theory it should be a Transformers fan's utopia, and yet it just feels "okay" (because it's not backed by strong storytelling).

This writer seems like the antithesis of someone like Michael Bay. Bay doesn't care about the brand, so he approaches making a Transformers story like he would any generic action movie. With leaves us with Transformers stories that don't entirely feel like (what we expect from) Transformers. This writer almost has too much reverence for the brand. To the point that it might be blinding her. She seems kind of buried in her headcanon. The average person honestly doesn't care about her shipping and whatnot. I feel like someone like Travis Knight is a good happy medium. Someone who has familiarity with the brand, but isn't so absorbed in it that it takes priority over constructing a solid narrative first and foremost.

All of that being said, I hear Season 3 is really good. I'm looking forward to watching it, I'm just waiting until summer, when I have more time (I have to catch up on Season 2 also).

Why reassign the gender of a popular male character instead of creating a new female character to stand on her own feet? Can they not create a strong independent woman so they have to reassign the gender of a strong independent man?

So it turns out my television didn't shatter when Mar-Vell was played by Annette Benning in the Captain Marvel movie. If Cyclops was a girl in the next X-Men movie, my television would STILL not break.

I have one phrase for you: "What If...?"

    No?

    How about one WORD: Elseworlds.

Each continuity is its own thing, it isn't beholden to existing properties. It will still lean on more iconic looks and things, but it won't necessarily match up 100%. Had they done Captain America in the movieverse as the Patriot version, would it have changed the Avengers movies any? WW2 references, but that's about it. Kinda like Jarvis going from a British RAF vet butler to an AI.

Question: how many characters in Cyberverse are actually genderswapped?

Like, there's Acidstorm and Novastorm, one of whom they settled on being gender fluid due to a series of animation errors. Neither were really characters in much of anything before, so I didn't feel there was an issue.
I guess Clobber is a genderswapped Lugnut, but...Also not really? Beyond looking like him and having his super punch (and not even that - Lugnut has an explosive punch, Clobber just hits really hard), she's not much like Lugnut. She lacks his fanatic, almost religious devotion to Megatron, transforms into a ground vehicle, her personality is overall different from him. Now the intent was obviously for her to be a genderswapped Lugnut, she's even still called Lugnut in French I think, so making her a different character was a late stage decision, but probably one that was for the better.

Skywarp apparently was genderswapped but is she even voiced?

Aaaaaand...Cosmos. So that's four characters who were genderswapped outright, one who didn't even speak and was irrelevant, and Clobber, who was conceived as a version of Lugnut and developed into a separate character.

Honestly the complaining about the gender swapping is dumb. It’s not like it was a prominent part of the show

Because its lazy writing, they used an established character instead of creating a new one, and most of the times whenever theres a gender swap the writing sucks and degrades the character
