I guess they couldnt really put a mass murderer and head of a death squad into a kids cartoon other than by having his likeness and none of his personality, was more fan service than actual character development

Q: Why are there no humans in the show?

From the show’s conception, there were no plans to include any humans. They didn’t want humans distracting from the Transformers.

For this and many other things she said, I love her.

I'm glad you didn't too. So we can discuss it with people who did watch it, instead of judgmental contrarians who criticize without actual experience.

i wonder if there is gender swap jazz concept art?

also i dont get why people get so upset that character gets gender swapped, far far crazier things have happened in transformers cartoons

I have no problem with Female Characters in Transformers; but the gender swapping is a hard No.

Just make new Female Characters, or use existing Female Characters.

I actually seen enough of this show to not be too much of a fan of it. So how about just scrolling on before making lame @ss judgments of your own.

    **********************************

Anyway I did hear from a few that Season 2 was far better than Season 1 was (which shouldn't have been too hard to achieve). But I was still too wary, yet a Tarn feature might've given a lot of Tarn/DJD fan's that were also on the fence a push in Cyberverse's favor.

But whatever... I'll eventually see what the Netflix version shows off.

Knowing how Cyberverse "gender-swapped" characters, just add lipstick to Jazz.

Yeah, I don’t get the strong reaction to gender swapping at this point. I see it just as “an idea” to explore and nothing more.

They explored the idea of making Grimlock smart and polite in robot mode, which I didn’t really care for. I think the idea of a female Jazz sounds fun. I can already imagine the personality and language of the character.

because it’s different and for a franchise all about one thing changing to another there’s a lot of close mindedness and unacceptable to do something different. People act like if you change one or two things with a character think the entire 35 years of that character is ruined and forgotten and it’s not. Not even remotely but they’ll treat it like it is.

That was a weird interview, but the discussion around it is even weirder! I presume the mods may lock this thread by lunchtime...

Anywho, I'm not against any changes to characters like gender-swapping and the like, so long as the characters are cool. Besides, everything is in their own universe so it's almost required to play around with the status quo with every new show. That's the fun part of being part of a creative team!

But boy, that interview was weird. I know I said it already but it bares repeating.

for all those complaining about cyberverse gender swapping characters, its not like its the first transformers to do it. animated had a female red alert based on armada red alert as part of rodimus' crew.

and Japan did it 25 years ago with Airrazer. 30+ years ago with Starscream. That’s right people Starscream was a chick in Japan

edit: okay I think it was France that make screamer a chick but still! A portion of the fandom grew up with a gender swapped character

I wish Cyberverse had another season. I don’t think it was great, but I really like how willingly they were to take elements from all over the franchise.

So I went over the interview quickly and it's harmless cringe. I get why people are reacting the way they are as a lot of here ideas are terrible (desposito jokes in 2020?) but it's all really harmless.

Just keep in mind she was a writer. Not a creative director, show runner, producer etc she really cant do much creatively without it being looked over and reigned in.

On gender swapping...or even race changes...I think people get irritated by it cause it generally involves taking a popular character and changing them for the sake of diversity. It makes more sense to make your own character instead of altering a character that has a known history.

In terms of Jazz...he's a popular Transformers character, so...if they wanted a character similar to him, they could make another character with his personality and a similar design and call "her" something like Blues or Downbeat...
It's like how in the show they have a character that looks like Lugnut from Transformers Animated, but is female and called Clobber. Similar appearance to one character, but their own thing.

Just some random thoughts on the subject.

I think you're thinking of Nitro Convoy for Japan. But it was the other way Female to Male.

starscream was female in the french dub of g1 if im not mistaken, airazor was female in the source and male in the japanese dub of beast wars, nitro convoy was male in the source (galaxy force) and turned into the female override in the dub (cybertron)

they did it with that character but Starscream was gender swapped long long ago and tigertron and I were talking we think it was France

which made Nitro Convoys relationship with the female human(sorry can’t remember her name Cybertron kinda sucks to me) not make any sense in any dub of her/him

yeah I know I didn't say otherwise. I'm just adding to the list.

Cyb was conceptualised in the US with all all the plot done by Hasbro while Takara did the toy design and Gonzo actually made the show. It's one of Aaron Archers last projects. So yeah it came out first in Japan but that doesn't really mean anything when the development work is done in the US.

    Aaron Archer - Transformers Wiki

"In addition to designing characters and planning out the toylines, Aaron also wrote the story concepts for all three Unicron Trilogy lines that were eventually made manifest in the lines' cartoon series ignored by the Japanese production companies."
