Wowzers! I don’t think i can watch that much in in setting! My record is 10-14 and it was for an anime Fist of the Northstar (20) Code Geass (14-15) and Mobile Suit Gundam (20-21?). I kinda regret going through so much about in the above series. Mainly because I couldn’t appreciate the various story arcs. But I was so excited for FOTS and MS Gundam that i binge-watched the series. Code Geass...the story was so interesting that I simply kept on watching until the next day. Mebius was cool for the Showa Ultras, world/universe building and the stories. It was good to see some of the original human actors making their appearance. I was kinda sad that the actor for Taro didn’t make an appearance...fuelling rumors (others mention that he had a last min appointment on the day of filming) that he doesn’t want to do anything with the franchise . I will definitely get Ace but will wait on X as I need to space out my expenditure! X)
New purchase with a bit of history behind it! My first experience with Ultraman was watching Towards the Future/Great during it's run on FOX way back when (I think 1992?) and damn if it didn't become little me's favorite TV show, to the point where I had episode six recorded and I ended up wearing out the cassette because I watched it so much. So, when I saw one of these up for sale on Mandarake... I had to. I HAD TO.
OK guys, I was lucky to be selected by Yolopark to build their Ultraman Ver 7.3 Plamo model kit. and I wanted to share my experience with you guys. For those not familiarized, this is the UltraSeven version of the new Netflix's Ultraman series. This series is a reboot of the original Ultraman series. To be more exact, the story fits AFTER the end of the first series. Ultraman left the Earth and Hayata and the rest of his old team develop a way to manage the "Ultraman Factor" via power suits. Of course, there's a Moroboshi Dan in the series. Kind of obscure character. Rude an serious, like Wolverine. While it's a total re-invention of the character, you can easily identify the classic Ultra Seven suit design in the armor or Dan's glasses which area reference to the "Ultra Eye". Dan is the opposite of Shinjiro (Hayata's son) and their ideals usually clash on the story, Well, that's enough of background story. Let's start. PACKAGING The kit comes in a BIG 45 cm tall box. Very heavy for a model kit. Features Ultraman 7.3 art on the side. A pretty big amount of parts. Siege Soudnwave as a a size reference.
INSTRUCTIONS: To my surprise, it is printed in high quality paper, with several color pages of the kit fully painted. All in Chinese, but that's no problem when you build a mode kit. You just need the pieces letters and numbers. Very visual and easy to follow. BUILDING PROCESS: HEAD Tons of pieces just for the head. You have to install the LED system already which is easy since you just need the place it inside the head.Easy to snap all the pieces, no glue needed. Soundwave got a new friend.
BUILDING PROCESS: TORSO Amazing articulation system, all goes inside the chest. All parts connect via ball joints which I have to admit are really hard to connect, but the final result is amazing. The torso is easy to bend like a real person. Another LED system is placed inside the chest. The back has some movable panel to reveal inner parts. Connect the head to the main body is easier than the rest of the connectors. Soundwave has a bigger friend.
BUILDING PROCESS: ARMS Total fun with the arms which have double elbow. Very, very tight joints, but we will see why later. Armas are kind of hard to connect to the shoulders too, but now you can enjoy what the articulation can do. Soundwave can play now with his friend.
BUILDING PROCESS: CROTCH Tons of parts just for the upper leg articulation. Movable belt to allow more free movement. Another challenge to connect it to the torso, but you get a grear amount of posability. Soundwave is not the older brother anymore.
BUILDING PROCESS: LEGS A great work on the legs, that you really build from inside to outside. Each has some movable panels too, ankle, point of feet, inner leg and double knee. One leg is taller than poor Soundwave. They are very easy to connect (finally) and now Soundwave looks in trouble.
BUILDING PROCESS: HANDS It took me almost 2 days to build the 8 pairs of hands since each of them has around 13 or 15 parts. While not articulated, you can combine them for different display options and dynamic poses.
BUILDING PROCESS: FULL BODY This is sure a BIG BOY! Posability is top. You can bend him almost as a real person. The bendable torso helps the stability. Comparison pics next to some of my Transformers figures.
BUILDING PROCESS: SPECIUM BLADES The inevitable katanas. Have fun with the poses. You can attach them via the holsters or directly to the legs via optional pieces in the leg.
BUILDING PROCESS: EX RIFLE A pair of guns to become the soul of the party. Here you need to use an specific pair of hands. The rifles go in the back via a support (hidden connectors) that can deploy them as if Ultraman were ready to grab them.
BUILDING PROCESS: SPECIUM CRUSHER Total bad-ass cannon claws! These weapons are heavier than all my Transformers of the same size and more. They are huge and heavy. As you can see,the figure can hold them with no problem or extra support, and here's why articulation was hard to connect. A total winner on any disaplay.Clawscan extend and articulate. FINAL COMMENTS I couldn't be more satisfied and impressed with this model kit. Amazing plastic quality and it gave me a good challenge for several days. Articulation is on a fantastic level. A great piece indeed. Thanks!
God, that thing is gorgeous. Doesn't have the pre-applied silver and not as glossy finish as the Bandai Figuarts, but the detail and articulation look amazing. How's the overall fit and finish?
Thanks for your comments guys. The figure is totally solid and plastic is really sturdy, specially the one used in the Specium Crusher. All pieces fit strong, it's almost impossible for them to take apart in some cases. I think this retails about 50 or 70 bucks. There's a metallic finish pre-painted version on pre-order here. 1/6 Scale Ultraman Seven ver 7.3 (Painted PLAMO) In any case, you can find them on Ebay as Dimension Studio & Eastern Model Ultraman Suit Ver. 7.3

i go all the way back to seeing the original 70's Ultraman but have fond memories of the Australian/Great series and was impressed at how far the miniature effects had progressed...I still have Majaba and Ultraman from the toyline packed away in storage somewhere...
