It’s fake as shit, and the experts are complete robotic tools. Also for a show about Lego I feel like they hardly ever actually talk about Lego. I was shocked when they actually discussed the “cheese slope.”

I seriously wonder just how much deliberate "watering down" there's been for the (dumb) US audience.

James (the judge) was in a Lego documentary I saw a few years ago and was great in that, he was also in the UK Lego Masters and that show really worked IMHO. But that show is almost completely foreign in presentation format to this show, despite them doing many of the same challenges. The Judges roles have been virtually eliminated due to Will Arnett and they spend so little time letting you get to know the contestants; in the UK show, you learned more about the competitors backgrounds, from seeing videos of their Lego rooms/builds at home, or them participating in Lego clubs, etc. Interviews with family members about their Lego hobby and so forth. Similarly, in some sort of attempt to make it more exciting, the drop challenge in the UK version was just that; everyone's was dropped, so everyone had to plan accordingly, so they could have pinata style explosions or ones designed to really launch, making it all relative, rather then blowing up some, hitting some with a baseball bat, etc. One group in the UK also did an alien, but they did a full array of internal organs, so when it smashed, you had all these easily identifiable organs to look at as well as some weird alien ones, while another team built so that when it exploded, it really launched debris everywhere, creating something like 12 feet diameter of debris. While both shows have Lego Lingo, the UK version had a lot, especially early on and even the lessons were more then just a summary, for example the SNOT (Studs not on top) in UK showed some ways to build to create SNOT examples, rather then quickly explaining the vocabulary and moving on.

Also, the UK had real teams on it, unlike poor Jessica and her prima donna partner in his apron or dress or whatever. Perhaps it's sentimentality that comes with age, but the UK show having younger participants who are actually close to each other virtually all their lives vs the reality show cross section also made it mean more when you could see the raw emotions of both letting their partner down and when they struggled. When the under 10 years old team got eliminated in the UK version of the show, one of the boys was almost sobbing, not because he was going to be eliminated, but because he felt he'd let down his best friend in the whole world, and over several episodes we got to see that, with footage of them at their afterschool Lego club, videos of their crazy MOC's at home, etc. So you understood that in a much better and visceral way as you'd seen that not just in the builds/challenges, but also in their backgrounds. This show doesn't seem to be able to tap into that kind of raw emotion because we don't really know any of them and since some of them barely know each other, so what?

In many ways, it feels more like a parody of reality TV shows then a "reality" TV show.

Having to move those things was beyond stupid. TWO teams had their stuff break. Seriously judge them at their station.

edit: Now they move them back? WTF? Booo.

    :cry

Well i do get why the guy did. They had an awesome build. Moving it and it is nearly wrecked? That is a major blow. But glad they pulled back to be a top team.

but seriously making them move it, then move it back, then once again move it was BS.

    What a disjointed episode.

The issue with moving the build has always been one that made me wonder about not just in shows like this, but cooking shows. With popular shows that get lots of seasons, plus lots of contestants, I always wonder if some chef may get the nerves and in bringing their food up to be judged, drop the dish. Having to move what is designated a massive build three times within a time limit was just asking for disaster.

It seemed like really hard pickings for top build, Beard Bro's Pops Food Truck, the BFFs Smogmonster, and the older couples Spider assault were all really good builds IMHO, while the married couple I think had the best building pre-disaster addon. Personally I would've eliminated the brothers over the cosplay girls; sure the Cosplay Girls really failed at telling the assault story, but the part that they had 14 hours or whatever, they really excelled, where the brothers did well in the 4 hour part, but failed in the long term build to really do anything with cohesion or use all those empty glass floors and then still didn't fix it with the extra 4 hours. The BFF's were able to restore the top half of their mega-building, restore a working elevator, and build a really good smog monster and adjust the mini's and environment all in the same time that it took the Brothers to add a snowman and some snowballs.

That bridge episode was pretty entertaining tonight if you guys caught it. Crazy to think how much weight some these bridges held up.

The couple was totes cheated out of a win.
Yes, their bridge as well as the beard guys bridge bore half a ton each, but the beard dudes bridge started delaminating at a half-ton, meanwhile the couple's bridge didn't even creak under the weight.

Total agreement. I really thought that was going to be the deciding factor. At worst, they should've both gotten a golden brick.

This is by far my favorite episode of the series. It was exciting in all the right ways, involved the Lego, and to once again go back to the British version, did the challenge better than the British version. In their version, they had a weighted truck go over the bridge, and it was just pass/fail. By adding more weight, we got to see who really built a bridge.

Wow that one bridge didn't even support 45 pounds while every other one did about 3 times that much. Some of those were amazing. I like how the weakest bridge guys complained about having less time, but someone with 5 minutes more was in the top 2. No you guys just had a bad design.

This bridge episode was by far the best, since it had the admittedly random but fun "lego derby" at the beginning, then the bridge thing went in a direction literally nobody was expecting. I was greatly amused at how the first bridge they tried ended up exceeding the provided weights because even the production crew didn't think the bridges could be THAT strong, and ultimately not one but TWO of them end up being able to hold up to HALF A TON.

I also think the couple got cheated out of that brick, but there I also think it might have been executive meddling to balance things out since between them and the other team, the couple is the stronger one and they've NEVER been on the chopping block.

That's one theory. My wife's theory is the female judge has it out for teams including females. That's my wife's theory any way.

I do think the couple got cheated.

It was a very fun episode, I have to say. Watching those weights pile up was terrific. I think the right people went home, even though I was sad to see 'em go. Watching gym bro get picked on over the weights was good fun. Will was in fine form all the way around. Just a fun episode.

The judges are insufferable, especially the female. They're just grating and sound like total assholes all the time.

Also Will Arnett... God bless him he's trying, but his material is shit and the fact that there's always a reaction cut to someone laughing at him is so insipid.

Seriously GREAT JOB FOX! During the final commercial before the elimination they aired the remaining 3 teams for the next episode lol. Talk about a Spoiler Hahah.
I won't say who got the boot but next week's episode looks awesome as the theme is a famous Star Wars scene.

Wow! I probably won't be watching this show if there's a season 2. It reminds me so much of Face Off with how judges make odd decisions just to get certain people into the finale.

Had I heard ahead of time who was going to be eliminated, I wouldn't have believed you, but seeing the build, I can't really disagree.

The big robots were just a larger version of the robot they got, they built a tower which didn't really do any visual storytelling, and they just put some robots in the shared construction area. The Married couple built the obelisk even and it was their idea, the BFFs wanted to do a bake sale?

I think the biggest problem was that the BFF's weren't thinking of an enlarged panorama, they just wanted to show off some small techniques, and weren't even thinking of doing something big, colorful, and easily presented. Don't get me wrong, the circuitry on the side of the building, the rotating dishes and the hero switch were all cool, but the rest of it was just a mound with another glass two story building on it and some robots in a row. They didn't even amend their single bake sale stand when they made the change to the obelisk.

Poor Jessica and her partners build was sloppy on their side, no doubt, but the interactive scene was great, with the bubbles with pizza minions and carrying soap, a dynamic interaction with all those characters. So I wasn't firmly in their camp, I understood what they were doing and don't think it was unfair that they stayed.

Star Wars should be fun next week. Though I'm not sure without some retooling that I'd be interested in a second season, but likely it doesn't even have to do very well, between what Lego is contributing and once the set is built, the show is probably a true budget saver.

I was floored by how both "hero" teams simply didn't have a grasp as to how to embrace the superhero aspect of everything. The BFFs simply were struggling as while they started the show super strong, over the course of the show it's been clear they really don't have much in the way of true creativity - their builds are elaborate and detailed, but in terms of telling a narrative it's almost painful at how oblivious they are to telling a story. Like, you get a programmer and a freaking space bounty hunter, and the best idea you can come up with is a BAKE SALE? You could just SEE how frustrated the couple were with how thick the two guys were being in having any kind of understanding about the point of the challenge.

Jessica and crossdresser guy also really aren't thinking out of the box, given they had to have people making comments for them to understand how to make a shower themed superhero with painfully obvious things like soap bubbles and those fluffy wash ball things I can't spell the name of.

Honestly, I'd be shocked if the finals don't come down to the couple and the beard guys, since the third team has survived more out of sheer luck than anything if I'm honest, with my favored team being the couple because they routinely just hit it out of the park with skill AND creativity.

I'd be happy with that outcome. I think Jessica and dress-bro (my wife pointed out last week's was a nightshirt, one she used to wear) are either skating through by the skin of their teeth, or they were purposefully dragged through in the hopes of more fireworks level drama. I was surprised at how easily dress-bro worked with the other team. When the whole thing came together it looked almost, from a distance, like a single build. Really well integrated.

But yeah, the hero teams both dropped the ball.

That scorpion queen setup needs to be a buy-able set yesterday. Incredible.
