Hi All, I have some down time and I wanted to share my latest paint job on Rampage. This was a total take apart, prime and paint but this time I experimented with dry brushing and using various colors of paint to try and create shades. I've never done it before but I really do like how it turned out. Let me know what you think. Hope everyone is well!
A little bit heavy on the red but he looks just fricking intimidating Way more insect/alien like than I've ever seen him before. ME LIKES!
Trying to emphasize the insect look was what I was going for. He does look very red in these pics but in person it's very dark shades of red. I really appreciate your input Thanks so much!
Don't get me wrong here. All the red is what makes him look so organic (but still not actually organic). I like that very much. That gives him that insect/alien vibe. Usually people just go for the opposite: Put some other colors ontop, mostly silver tones, to make it look more mechanic. I really like that you showed another route to go and you pulled that off terrifically *I am talking about the head section in particular.
Yep I'm following ya. The neck and head on this guy is what I am happiest about. I've completed Long Haul and Scrap Metal (At least to the point I'm happy with them) and now I'm working on Hightower. HT's neck is the same as Rampage but I went with the metallic route so far but I don't think I like it as much. I may try to add yellow to his neck to get the same type of look because he has such a weird & cool monster look too. Painting yellow is just not as fun as the other colors though and that is what I'm trying to get right.
Thanks man. I've seen a lot of your work and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that your work inspired me to try doing this. I'm still practicing dry brushing and trying to develop good methods for doing it but the more I do the happier I get. I just love the look that you get with this technique. Thanks again!
Really?! Wow! I do appreciate that. My style just evolved from two other customizers before I found my style. One was Jin Saotome and I cannot remember the other one. His video tutorial really helped. I wish I could remember his name. I plan on doing the movie constructicons when I have all the bots.
