Interesting that IDW Publishing seems to be doing well.

The fact that both revenue and profit for the publishing area are up from the previous quarter (seen in the listings buried in the press release). Maybe “well” is too strong but “better” certainly makes sense.

I don't see them mentioning profit though, just revenue. Profit = revenue minus total expenses. In any case, they'll be getting money from me again next month when Guido Guidi returns in TF 1984 ;)

Profit is listed alongside revenue in the minutia accompanying the press release itself (it’s not in the summary).

And hard agreement on your last point!

Ah, thanks! I missed the link earlier. So in the same quarter last year the publishing department alone was making a 1.5m loss.... Ouch. Glad they finally became profitable again this quarter, no matter how small. Hope they can keep this up. We are talking about people's jobs here after all.

Their annual financials are terrible. A good quarter won't fix a bad year (and it really wasn't even a good quarter).

sold some private stock (B shares) to raise more capital
    no P/E (no guidance/forecast), even pre-virus
-4 EPS, pays no dividends for 3+ years now (ie, almost always a bad sign)
    50M debt with only 60M revenue, -25M EDIBTA, -42% profit ... again, all pre-virus

IDW MEDIA HOLDINGS (IDWM) Stock Price, Quote, History & News - Yahoo Finance
    IDW Media Holdings Inc.

Publishing comics is sadly a money pit now. Being profitable within 2 years seems unlikely. More likely would be a non-losing TV division that acts as the slush fund to prop up the comics/publishing creativity that has provided some fodder for TV. Circular, somewhat like DC and Marvel. Spend money to make money. The comics also spawn many other licensed products. TF is owned by Hasbro, so I'm honestly not sure what the upside is for IDW.

A good current 5-year-old thread: IDWM - IDW Media Holdings Inc.

    Acquisition is always possible.

For sure. I hope things will get better for them, but.... Yeah. A tiny profit one quarter does not stack up to losing major money since at least Q1 2019.

One observation I have is that they're not really losing any share value during the recent stock drops. So I wonder if they're already hit the floor? Not that the stock really has volume activity anyway. Any investor that had any interest was probably already scared away by their the numbers.

In the grand scheme of things, IDWM is really an unknown nobody. Nobody really buys, sell, or even notices. We only do at this site because we're TF fans. But it's also odd that we care, as IDWM doesn't hold the property, Hasbro does.

Meanwhile, Hasbro stock .... yeesh. Down from $90 exactly one month ago to $45 today. A 50% drop.

In fairness, the entire market is down. Just wait til October or November... it'll likely be even further down, much like what we witnessed in 2007. That'll be a good time to buy.
