The 2013 Deadpool game was one of the most expensive games ever made. Not development wise, but marketing wise. Activision really did try to push this game to ensure it's success. However when the game failed to pull in enough sales, Actvision had to lay off some High Moon employees. I don't know why the game exactly failed. But I am guessing it's because Deadpool wasn't as popular as he is today. High Moon was planning on developing a 3rd Cybertron game, however development was handed over to Edge of Reality. Who in turn released Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark. which was supposed to be a tie in with the 2014 film Age of Extinction. I am guessing the game performed poorly critically and commercially and further made it so this third Cybertron game's chances are slim, even more so seeing how they didn't renew their Transformers license with Actvision. Hasbro does seem interested in making console games with the announcement of a new Transformers game. Who knows, maybe they can take the mantle. TL;DR: Deadpool game by High Moon comes out and bombs, which laid off High Moon employees. Edge of Reality releases Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, which wasn't received well. Hasbro doesn't renew the Transformers game license.
What is interesting is that once Destiny 2 finishes it’s run in the coming months (due to development on Destiny 3), High Moon Studios will move onto other projects. But because of their low staff and no longer being an independent game studio, Activision will decide where they go next. Probably assisting other companies in game development. A third game was intended to happen but High Moon Studios never laid any groundwork/concept on the story. They just knew that they wanted to continue what they did with Fall of Cybertron and nothing more. What Edge of Reality did was all on them and it really shows in the final product.
I think they said recently that they didn't plan on a third game (it was in one of those convention videos that popped up a few months back). Apparently FOC was always supposed to end on that cliffhanger.
And if the WfC/FoC games were meant to be any kind of G1 prequel, this would make all the sense it needs to.
I am random, and black, and a gamer. But no. Looking back at his WFC video just had me thinking about High Moon and that Deadpool game.
Wow. I never knew this. I enjoyed Deadpool as well. Well maybe somewhere down the line Activision could give us a proper rematser of Fall & War for Cybertron for the PS4 (preferably as physical copies).
Deadpool game sales from VGCHARTZ PS3 - 0.47m copies (470,000) Xbox 360 - 0.44 m copies (440,000) I am not counting the next gen versions. In total the game probably sold over 900,000 copies.
Something else to note was Deadpool was taken off of digital storefronts in 2014. After Actvision lost the Marvel license, and Disney didn't renew it. This effected tons of games, because Actvision licensed Marvel games since the 80's. This could of also effected the game's sales, especially the pc version. The game would return in 2015 with an Xbox One and PS4 port digitally and physically but this was also taken down. Plus Disney being more interested in pushing the Inhumans, instead of the X-Men could be another reason they didn't renew the license. The game was many things. I wouldn't call it useless, more damaging and helpful. It was helpful because the game did help Deadpool become as big as he is today. Even if I think he didn't NEED a video game. And it was a decent beat-em-up. But it did possibly stain the relationship between Actvision and Disney when it failed to impress. Actvision had too much hope in the game, and it failed commercially. I too wanna see a third WFC game.
