FIRST, this is FREAKING AMAZING! As someone who's done a full-sized Unicron image, I can vouch for you that it is NOT easy. The Unicron piece I did was the single most frustrating and detailed Transformers piece I've ever done. It makes everything else seem like child's play, LOL. So a big kudos to you for your hard work. Everything is clean, the lines are balanced and sharp, and it looks accurate to the animated cartoon, especially the face. My only little nitpick (and this might have been your intention) is that the lighting of the image seems a little dim? (like the overall brightness has been turned down, or we were watching this on my Dad's old Magnavox before it died, lol) Like I said, this might have been your intention, but I'd love to see just a teensy bit more contrast with the lightest portion (i.e. brighten the chest/pants area). I've uploaded an example below, where I've brightened the chest/pants and gave everything else just a teensy bit more pop:
Thanks so much Grungey. So reason for choice of colors: I used the korean HD screenshots from the movie for his color palette. I just thought they looked so perfect. But hey, any edits from you are always welcome. As you hopefully remember, I've been a watcher buddy of yours for eons now lol. And I love your Floro Dery Unicron. and hey, Do you still have that TFA Roadrage piece I made for you Years ago? Now if I could just get off of my LAzy ass to make his planet mode. but every time I think about the detail involved in it, A kitten dies.
I thought it looked a bit like screenshot colors. I did that a couple of times, but soon realized that (for me at least) the rips don't look as good (color wise) as just doing them digital (by eye) for some reason. They also don't look as good as some of the original cel/production colors. For example, that godawful pink hue they gave Hot Rod in the BluRays vs the reddish tone from the DVDs, but I'm aware that's an exception since they pulled the BluRay from the original (although I sometimes theorize if things might have been faded over time or they interpolated things a bit off in the restoration process, but I digress) With regards to the dim/faded look I would get from my screengrabs...I'm not sure what happens from the original to the point we get the streams/BluRay/HD/etc. Perhaps compression? Or filters? Who knows, but I soon gave up on ripping the shots from my player and decided to try matching them by eye, and making some personal changes. Especially w/special FX lighting in anime screengrabs; sometimes they are so dim and badly contrasted. Yet, I'll look at the wallpaper or concept art and things will be vibrant. Anyway, I guess what I'm saying here is, it looks great, but never feel you're restricted from improving on the colors a bit; you can increase vibrance and still keep the colors relatively the same, you know? Hehe, thanks man! Actually,l I don't think so. I'd love to see it though, as I've lost a few gift arts from people over the years and I've been majorly bummed. I'm still looking for a Makotron Burnout piece from around my first years of doing TF art, among other things (including yours). If you want, you can link me to it on your DeviantART and I'll stop by and snatch it (if it's uploaded of course). And yeah, the planet was the hardest for me too. OMG....But I can't lie and say I'm not excited to see what you do with it. Definitely looking forward to it!
Yeah.... I had a ton going on since I made this sucker. Most not good. been in a massive slump. Just not motivated to finish anything. I'm sure I'll get to it eventually. I'm just in no rush. But I def still want to finish the whole cast. I want to make a more updated movie poster using CC Animate. just to see if I can. It's just a massive undertaking. I know there are many others that could draw it up in like a couple hours, but I'm just not like that. I prefer to take as much time as I want.
This unicron looks absolutely amazing. I can see that you really put time into it, I look forward to seeing what you have in mind for other characters.
"I.... AM UNICRON." I sat here for 20 minutes staring at this one, with the Unicron theme playing on my headphones. This is the artwork they should use for Unicron when HasLabs finally issues him! Hat's off to you GAUGE: incredible job on an equally incredible piece!
Decided to revisit Unicron and touch him up a bit and give him even MORE details, and highlights etc. Also give him his more proper colors. At least.... The Colors I recall him with as a boy in the 80s growing up. I wore out soooo many VHS tapes of the movie as a kid.
So.... Obviously I'm not quite finished with The Chaos Bringer. I still have tons more to do on him. But here's another Update: (I highly recommend opening images in separate windows or tabs to see all the art to get that full impact of the sheer scale of it all. Thanks for looking) Compared to what I posted yesterday, I've obviously added tons more detail, shading, Highlights, and more dynamic color to really make him pop as best as humanly possible. The fact I've created this from nothing in Adobe Animate with a mouse, blows my own mind. I'm impressed with how he's turning out. I only wish it didn't take so long for me to work on UNICRON again. But, man... That Payoff though, ya know? heh.
I gave him completely new upper legs (Thighs) and made them more accurate to the way they looked in the movie, and tweaked the perspective on the lower legs and feet a bit, and gave him a more proper A-Stance.
I've used the site Eons ago. I'm talking as far back as 2005. I rarely use it much anymore. It's become such a horrid place now. I just barely started posting there again in the last couple of weeks. But yeah, it's still pretty awful there.
