I know what you mean, it was jarring. I think they might have just wanted to tweek them a bit to fit the new visual style of Beast Machines. Everything is more 'matt', stark in contrast and and stylised....I guess they felt the season 1 beast modes needed to match that? I never fully understood why they had reverted back to them tbh.

 

Probably because even in beast mode the Transmetals were pretty powerful. I mean can you imagine Optimal Optimus being chased down even in gorilla mode?

Plus it was a clever way of "sifting' the cast between those who survived and those who had succumb to the virus, "shielding them" in an ironic reversal of how those original crew members who were unprotected in season two became Transmetals in the first place.

 

Yeah that all makes sense, what I mostly mean is it was never properly explained in the show. Indeed none of them seemed to notice they'd reverted back to previous bodies...it was just sort of glossed over/ignored.

I've checked this out, you are correct! So the web qualified as yet another "that one thing from that one time in that one episode" accessory. Its actually far less consequential than the visor which actually makes more appearances!

 

They were given a virus when they landed that reverted them back and locked them in beast mode. Those without transmetals were paralyzed. They were aslo incredibly disoriented and running for their lives, which is also why they didn't question it too much. But when rattrap saw them losing their transmetal bodies he said "So that's what happened to our Transmetal bodies!", so it was acknowledged eventually.

 

Well...I've clearly not got to that bit yet. I've just started re-watching it after over 5 years  

I really like the show but it certainly has some messaging issues.

 

Right, well, for SLIGHT spoilers (as in, you can probably assume all of this in the first episode), they had a bunch of their memory wiped, were infected with a virus (which is part of the plot of the first episode), and were in the middle of being hunted. As they learn more, they realized they 100% fucked up and everyone is dead because of them. The show doesn't explicitly talk about this, but these characters are horribly, horribly traumatized. It affects their judgement, their behaviour, and their personality. The showe works a lot better if you keep this in mind.

 

Heh thanks... no need to explain it.. THE SHOW SHOULD BE DOING THAT which rather illustrate my point. It's an unprecscedently ambitious show that deals with some very complex themes, I'm in awe of it in many way. It just doesn't telegraph those themes all that well. I'm 5 episodes in atm btw.

 

I always thought they did an alright job with it, just by showing their actions. Like, they all acted like horribly traumatized, damaged characters. I also liked the way Optimus slowly fills that hole in himself that was created through is failure and trauma with fundamentalistic, extremist dogma. I felt like the show showed, rather than told you what was happening to him.

 

I'm a fan of show don't tell (been watching a bit of Prime recently which does much more of the later, thank you Kutzman!) but it doesn't feel like "Optimus slowly fills that hole in himself that was created through is failure and trauma with fundamentalistic, extremist dogma" he does it almost immediately and almost without warning or apparent reason. Sometimes they are neither showing or telling which is a little jarring. Again not a massive criticism, I LIKE THE SHOW. I just think the transitioning from their Beast Wars selves and more damaged Machines selves isn't as smooth and well telegraphed as it could be.

 

I waited all the way to last week to finally transform Blackarachnia and her articulation is astonishing.

I couldn’t help but put her in a laid back, seductive pose on the shelf. It just felt right.

Still don't understand "4th party." It's not a 4th party, it's still a 3rd party, because there's three parties involved. (us, TT, and whoever is making the KO)

 

What's 4th Party? Is this a KO?

 

This should really have been posted in the 3P forum but yeah... Interesting. So continues my let's see if the KO companies can do a better job and/or offer me a cheap option for a second copy for beast mode. Still this isn't actually all that much cheaper than the original....hummm.

 

The term “3rd party” is misused by this fandom.

• 1st party is TakaraTomy or Hasbro
• 2nd party is the consumer
• 3rd party is another company engaged in a business agreement with the 1st party

What many people in this fandom call 3rd party is simply a company making their own unlicensed likenesses of the 1st party’s intellectual property.

KOs are simply counterfeit product of anyone’s genuine product.

 

...and the term 4th party is inaccurately used to describe a KO that changes and/or improves on the figure it's knocking off. Like improving joints, adding die-cast, changing the deco, changing the scale etc etc...

No it doesn't make any sense but it's become sort of universally accepted.

 

Do I want this? What have the other boxes looked like? Can we expect diecast and electronics, or a different deco?
If it looks exactly like the official release, I don’t think I’d really want it...

 

She's still pretty cheap to pick up if you know where to look. I picked one up for $50 the other day off yahoo jp with MISB going for $60-70, Honestly, I don't think she sold that well even though she was the only new MP last year with no real QC drawbacks.
