It's a wrestling film with monsters. Not bad. But it could have done with more gore, maybe. Monster brawling shouldn't be too tame.
Tentacula looks pretty excellent, love the bioluminescence and how the tentacles replicate arms and fingers. Seems it'll be a fun bonk
Interesting concept. Wonder how this world came about where monsters were idolized by humans instead of feared. Well I guess now Rumble IS red, even in animated form, unlike in G1.
This movie is one of the weirdest Hollywood adaptations I've ever seen. It started as this... Monster on the Hill by Rob Harrell: 9781603090759 | PenguinRandomHouse.com: Books ...and somehow because futuristic monster wrestling.
Does this even count as an adaption anymore? I mean, Frozen is more of an adaption than this. And, the only thing Frozen has to do with the Snow Queen, is having the Snow Queen in it. (I guess?) Yea, this isn't even an adaption anymore. And, I'm totally cool with that.
The main monsters are still the ones from book and the book will be part of the writing credits. It will say "Based On". So, yeah, it's an adaptation. Just a drastic one.
So, if they changed the characters' name, they don't have to pay the author? Do that, Paramount. Just do that.
The first thing they did was pay him. You don't start working on an adaptation without that detail worked out. But they didn't buy his book intending to make a future wrestling movie. They started with a more accurate vision and it snowballed in the development process. It happens. Although this is probably one of the most extreme examples. Also, Rob's a good guy and Paramount can afford it. I hope they make a thousand of these and he gets rich beyond counting off of residuals.
