This is the first time I have ever seen this guy and I... don't think I will be watching more. I don't care if his opinion is different than mine, something that's always the case on fan forums, but I don't like being told his opinion like it's fact and anyone disagreeing doesn't make sense. At the very least, he's confusing "classic" with "good." That's not everyone's opinion. There's a strong possibility we will get classic designs down the line, but I assume Hasbro wants to attempt to attract new fans and old fans first before going for the "sure thing." There's plenty of other reasons why Hasbro might start off with something not mirroring the classic designs, but this guy can't fathom that. Either way, I can tell by the comments on the video that his followers eat that up and like him talking at them like that. So, oh well, more power to him.

Probably trying to bring a new generation into the fold with the designs. This guy may know something I don't but I'm not entirely sure that us older collectors are enough to float an entire line at the retail level.

Then again maybe kids today would appreciate the classic designs if they were given the chance. I don't really know.

It's possible that Hasbro doesn't want backlash over a pro military line so they sci-fi'ed it up too. I guess.

Just playing Devil's advocate here. I'm down for this line despite its perceived shortcomings.

I think he is confusing the "review" with "rant." Hasbro has basically done the same thing with the WFC transformers line, by giving fans G1 characters with original design cues, but with some stylistic updates, so I really have no problem with this. Honestly, some of the ARAH character designs wouldn't work today, so I am glad they are modernizing them. Just like I wouldn't expect to see as many Vietnam references (or some of the more colorful commentary) as were used on the ARAH file cards with today's figures (if they are included).

You can't bring is a new generation with just a 6 inch figure that has no reference. You need a marketing campaign based on a solid media, preferabel (for me ) a great action cartoon.
I want pro military with sci fi, but it doesn't work in 6 inch for gi joe. This line is dead before it was ever there.

While I do agree a great show (or even a terrible one) will sell toys, I think it's too early to write off the entire endeavor. We've only seen four toys after all, and toy collectors are notoriously good at backpedaling when it comes to bold claims like they'll never buy any of them. But yeah, Hasbro's marketing has never been the company's strong point with new/revamped properties (just look at Overwatch, or the lack thereof). Not sure if that's marketing's fault or someone higher up on the food chain, but with designs so stylized, you kind of have to do a show. In truth though, if the toyline is a success, then the show will come (I know, I know, it's ass-backwards).

Regardless, I'm still excited to get these toys. I will say that what turned me off getting into GI Joe for so long was lack of availability and a really boring and unappealing wiki (have some fun with it, people!). This feels like a fresh start so I'm finally on the GI Joe train and excited to see where it goes.

    Sure, here's one possible reason...

If you give fans something close to what they want but with noticeable differences before giving them 100% what they actually want you might be able to get them to purchase basically the same thing at least twice. Where if you go the other direction and they are satisfied with what they have, you miss the possible additional sales.

Of course in this example I am only speaking for those who actually wanted ARAH designs like speaker in the video you mentioned.

To those who enjoy the new designs, more power to you.

That'd be Salvo and it wasn't a cap and sunglasses(that was Hawk), Salvo had a helmet with a visor. Had his fig as a kid and by jove that thing was cursed. No matter how many o-rings I put in him they always snapped right quick. Overall I still like him, he seemed to be heavy weapons with the big honking missile launcher and the mine layer, but that shirt never made sense to me. Also why did he look like he had MG ammo strapped to his legs when he had no MG?

Yeah, I think I could accept these new designs a bit better, if they launched along-side a cartoon with these versions of the characters. I know it wasn't popular with a lot of fans, but at least they knew that Sigma 6 needed a cartoon to push those new Joe designs/scales.

As it stands, if they really are trying to get kids to buy these new 6in figures -- why would they? Fortnite has the wildly popular game to try to entice kids to buy the figures. I would say that the Classified line needs at least a cartoon or a game, to bring in kids.

I'm not a big time collector of GI Joes at any scale, but I was happy to order the new 6 inch Snake Eyes. I don't like the new designs for the other 6" figures. Not geared toward me and that's fine.

Adult collector only brands usually need either a limited production or a Kickstarter/club subscription though. If these were entirely resting on the shoulders of collectors they couldn't sustain a shelf release otherwise. I think they're hoping kids like it. The designs definitely seem to say so.

If they need to make more classic Joes a subscription based thing like MOTU Classics were, I'd totally be down for it. If they needed to. Inevitably the cost per figure would increase though.

I agree. These designs will have no staying power. No lasting presence. They will not be in the movie. They will not be in the next cartoon. They might be on some app game or something for awhile... then be replaced and forgotten. It might scratch the itch if you are dying to buy something Joe, but I personally don't need it... and can't really appreciate it either.

At this point, I'm already expecting that 6in ARAH could end up being exclusive to HasbroPulse.

Right. Even if kids were interesting in looking up where these characters come from, they'd have to find episodes of either ARAH, Sigma 6, or Resolute, and none of these Classified designs really match up to any of them very well.

I don't know how they are going to market these to kids. I suppose we'll see some commercials at some point, maybe.

That could be exactly it. I think those that want classic designs are going to get them regardless of when they come out. But, give us these new designs first, and even those whom don't like them may give in just because they're starving for something Joe related.

Too early to say "DETH OF TEH LIN3!". Classified line technically isn't out yet. Hasbro had longtime fans ready and waiting for 6" ARAH so it's puzzling that at least a few of the figures in wave 1 weren't using ARAH styling.

Look, I’m not saying the line will succeed or fail, I hope it does well. But there’s no way that Hasbro wouldn’t have done some sort of market research or testing, so I can’t imagine it will completely bomb. Even Sigma 6, which I guess was divisive, went on for three years.

Hmmm are these arguments starting to sound like HasLab Unicron and MP-44?
Many are ditching and bitching it. Then what happens next, many peeps will fall over it buying the product.

Haslab met their 8k Unicron Backers? Check.
    Fans bought MP-44? Check.
Did I mentioned they also bought MP Dinobot too? Check.

Bitchin' it then backpedalling later on :lol

I'm willing to give this line a try.
Seems like (if I'm correct), trickling the the wave of 4 figures? Like their Power Rangers Lightning Collection line.
    And "see how it goes"?

But regarding "marketing it to kids", how come the need to "sci-fi" the guns if there are random toy soldiers in the stores holding a mini M16 rifles? Or perhaps green plastic "Army Men"?

So is "Sci-Fying" is the way to go?
How did Hasbro arrived at the decision?
Had they seen it, "Hey guys, we shouldn't put 1/12 gun replicas and accessories coz kids may not buy it. Instead we put Laser guns"

Yeah, Snake-Eyes comes with an Uzi and pistol with removable suppressor. Takes a lot away from the kiddie sci-fi idea.

Huh nothing to support the line? I feel like there is a Snake-Eyes movie or something coming out? If there was only something like Google where I could search “G.I. Joe movie” and get an answer.... hurm....

I don’t think they just arrived at the decision. I mean, the inspiration for this line is the 35 year old ARAH cartoon which was very popular, and everyone shot lasers. So, it not like this is a new or unacceptable idea.

How many super-hero movies come out with reimagined designs of characters? Designs that aren’t necessarily in the movie? All of them. How many times has Hasbro relaunched Joe with redesigns without any real media support? Yeah this is really so unusual.  This the kind of old fanboy bellyaching that I frankly find tiresome. As an old fanboy myself.
