Obviously, hasbro wants the toys to move off of shelves quicker.

But the designs don't have to look identical to the toys to sell them. Again, look at the Sunbow cartoon. They didn't just draw the toys right down to pegs and hinges and whatnot. They took the toys and translated them to the screen. There are tons of ways to do that, while still making them resemble the toys enough to sell them.

Yeah, but what do you expect from a toy company that decided it was a great idea to stall a cartoon to the point that a toy wave ended.

I agree that they could’ve changed some things about the designs, though. No amount of animation is going to make that chromia design look good.....

I mean if you look at Beast Wars right now, the animation and designs definitely look dated. I think they worked very well with what they had for the most part. They had really good writing, acting, and direction. Granted they used almost entirely Canadian VAs, so they couldn't draw from a talent pool of actors who had previously worked on the G1 animated series.

I would say looking at this trailer, the animation is at least some steps up from the Prime Wars Trilogy web series. I think that's undeniable. Though, it does look a lot darker and have a lot more shadows. But I think having shading will help.

The voice acting I dunno. I don't recognize any of the names in the voice cast. I get the sense, like with first season of Prime Wars or Cyberverse, they didn't have a big budget to work with. Granted, the latter two seasons had the bigger names, but their writing and direction was very clunky and stilted. It was not the best.

Now, using new people might be to the show's benefit. We shall see. After Beast Wars, David Sobolov started getting more prominent work. He'd later return to Transformers as Shockwave on Transformers Prime. He also became the voice of Drax for Marvel Animation. He is a solid talent. So, some of these people might deserve the benefit of the doubt. You can't always dismiss actors before they get the chance.

That said, I'd be more encouraged if we saw some Yuri Lowenthals, Fred Tatasciores, etc. of the world in this cast list, or even people from Texas Funi anime dub pools, whatever.

I would rather the future of TF in visual media not be determined by the success of this show if it’s not good.

It is not in my best interest to support what I believe to be a bad direction for the brand to take. Transformers should not be soulless and grim like this, it should be fun and exciting. It should have heart, personality, dynamic characters and stories. It should be uplifting and inviting, not pretentious. If this is the future of TF media, I don’t want it to succeed.

I think this is a step up and improvement from the Prime Wars Trilogy, which was a genuine disappointment and there's no getting around it IMO. At least they don't have that awkward, choppy animation framerate issue. Like the animation generally looks decent.

Overall, I'm keeping an open mind. I want to see the whole thing and give it a chance.

It definitely looks like they've definitely done the animated series remake of the WFC games here. I think they clearly owe a huge thanks to High Moon Studios because it's basically the same concept just reworked.

Soundwave, it's a trilogy. This is the first part of a three part story. This is the War for Cybertron part like the video games. Netflix has already confirmed EARTHRISE is Part 2 where they go to Earth. So one would guess that humans would have to play a role in Chapter 2, or at least one could guess or assume.

I think toy sales will have a bigger impact on the future of the franchise. I think this brand being so big and iconic it will continue getting new content every so often, just like with Animated, Prime, RID, Cyberverse, Rescue Bots, Rescue Academy, etc.

I hope this gets more polished, looks like cutscenes from a 2009 video game. But at least better than the machinima series. Would have expected and preferred hand drawn beautifully hyper detailed anime style though...

Also why does Optimus speak so slow, I get why the old Peter Cullen does it, but a younger voice actor shouldn't imitate the old voice actor in his current state. Can we please stop having Optimus be a caricature of himself constantly giving speeches? Even facing doom, there was always something optimistic and uplifting in his voice and energy. Optimus also likes fun.

I also would have preferred to take more liberties with the character designs, they look to much like the Toys. Most Siege toys have superior older toys. Like Jetfire. The new toy is even blockier than his G1 cartoon counterpart. As if they used a ruler to make everything straight. They took the blocky look to literally.

yea, but this is also the fandom that throws temper tantrums when masterpiece and generations figures arent faithful to the screen depictions from over 30 years ago, theyre basically damned if they do and damned if they dont

I expected an anime, basically what G1, Rid and Armada looked like, only using modern technology, like many other beautiful anime on Netflix, where not only the story is great, but you're in awe how fantastic not only the characters are drawn, but also how detailed even the backgrounds are and every frame is like a peace of art and the music is the perfect addition for every moment.

If that's is what you wanted, I understand but if that is what you expected then you re in pure denial. As soon as it was announced as a Netflix, you ll have to be blind or not knowing at all how animation and budget works for expecting a hand drawn cartoon base on robots and robots only. Look at the year the show you use as reference were made and open your eyes.

I am not even sure this cartoon has the same equivalent budget of transformers prime.

I for one hope they will compensate with good writing and good characters

    This.

All I've wanted for ages is a dark toned, good quality transformers series that's not aimed at kids.

So far this seems to tick those boxes

I mean look, I think it’s moot. I have a feeling you’re going to be watching it anyway. But the point is this: the broader market doesn’t care about nuance as far as Transformers (or really any property outside of Marvel or Star Wars) is concerned. If it fails, the analysis won’t be “this was the wrong take on Transformers.” It will be “Transformers isn’t viable for a series.”

So what I’m saying is that your best path to a different take on TF being made for TV is to support this take.

Personally I'm optimistic. The trailer looks good. My only misgiving is that they're using the same actor to voice Starscream from the Prime Trilogy. Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the few that liked that show.

I like the serious tone of the trailer. I'm so tired of the goofy humour in the franchise in the last few years. It's all felt forced. Only genuine humour was Prime Wars Megatron and the 07 movie.

At least there'll be no giant robot cosplay in this series. No stylised aesthetics with characters like Bulkhead, Brains and Drift.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this. And in the meantime I'm enjoying Cyberverse for the most part.

What difference does it make if there's robots in it? Human characters in anime are also very detailed, I'd even say they have more detail, as they even animate every wrinkle of the cloth, have clothes and hair waving in the wind. And it's usually unnaturally windy in anime :lol

    Uh....ok....
Well...it takes much more time to draw a robot arm than a human arm.
First Just try to count the number of lines in a cartoon arm and a robot arm.
Second robot arm by its nature cannot "bend" in animation like a human one. So it is more difficult to animate.
A long time ago a 3d mecha costed a fortune to animate nowadays, not so much.
You dont have to believe me but look at all anime/cartoon with mecha recently (american/Japanese) besides gundam which is a special case, I dont find with hand drawn mecha (did you find any from Netflix? Like I asked?)
It is just about production cost. But if you dont grasp the difference between drawing/animating a character and a mecha then I don't think you will understand/accept this reality.

Back to the subject, does anyone know if war on cybertron part will last 1 season and then second season earth rise?

I don't like the poll since it lacks my demographic of "I'm from the past so everything is confusing and new!"...

other then that, I'm pretty excited to watch it.
