This is just a question I wanted to pose in the wake of the new Toyfair reveals.

I started collecting hardcore with Siege (did some potp, all gon now) and wanted to do a g1 s1 shelf of Autobots and Decepticons. I have a good portion down of what I wanted with the pleasure of adding more obscure characters to the shelf as well and overall enjoyed it.
The same thing happened to Earthrise, I jumped right into it, getting the collection closer to being done and blown away by figures like Cliffjumper and Hoist. It also helped me iron out my collection goals of S1 and a Micromaster city with weird G2 things on the side.

But then we got the reveals from Toyfair...

I love the Scorponok, Skylynx, bases, and micromasters we got to see, I'm in on most of them, but Smokescreen and Megatron SERIOUSLY rubbed me the wrong way. I know it's just two figures but it has really deflated some of my excitement for Earthrise, with what looks like even more redos soon like Sideswipe. Makes Siege almost feel pointless, like a waste of time and money.

Did you guys feel any of this? I'm just curious if anyone else felt this way.

No. Fans now have the option of having an earthmode Megatron and Smokescreen (and hopefully other of the Datsun bros) or picking them up if they didn't already have them. Plus we're getting Snapdragon, Doubledealer, and the Allicon and they all look fantastic, along with the ones you listed.

I’m only disappointed in that the “space” could have been used for someone else that hadn’t been done recently

The only figure I am strongly disappointed on is Runamok.

Because the figure just looks dull and not much hype for it and the fact it should have been Needlenose.

    I feel same.

The repeats, repacks and figures that have been done better in both the past and present (i.e. Arcee) just isn't exciting me.

Remember though, it’s not just for us. It’s not just for the hardcore collector, or the collector who is looking to “complete 84-85” or whatever. It’s just as much for the kid who catches the WFC series on Netflix, or picks up a comic, or stumbles upon a Megatron at Target.

Hasbro is a business. It has to have a Megatron in the market, and I’m guessing that it wants some continuity with the design because Megatron is going to be a similar looking tank in the Netflix show. Remember that as far as potential eyeballs go, the Netflix show is maybe the biggest ever opportunity for Transformers globally, period. Hasbro wants to make sure someone can watch the show and buy every character.

You can always skip toys if you’re happy with an existing version of a character, or don’t like the look of a new toy. I love my Siege Smokescreen but I’ll probably double dip. I’m less convinced about the new Megatron.

I was on the fence on the space style at first, but later waves helped it grow on me and I'm sad that it didn't go all out.
Yeah,I think it's the excitement and I got a bit too hyped and now reality is sinking in.
You do make great points. I have gotten deep back into TF about a year ago or 2 and got caught up in making a collection, that I do forget I started this all out as a 13-year-old, going down the toy section for shits and giggles and finding myself buying a Potp Slag because I really liked him in that episode when I was a kid. I sure hope TF takes advantage of the jump to Netflix, we could have a '07 moment on our hands.
Your right, it is good to have those options, I just deflates my excitement abit when we could get characters we haven't seen in a bit.

I'm disappointed we didn't get more in the Siege style. It was very refreshing and re-energized my collecting interest after being bored by MPs and 3P MPs. Hell, it got me back into CHUG.

I understand fully. But I have faith that Hasbro will eventually get to other figures. If someone would've told me we would be getting a leader class Doubledealer, I would be amazed.

Agreed on Runamuck, wish they gave him orange highlights and the inevitable Runabout some extra red like the Club ones

    • Literally just G1 again but with no modifier like modern aesthetic, Cybertronian modes, Combiners, or anything
    • Legends class still dead and replaced with boring Micromasters
    • Even lamer Battlemasters required if you want effect parts
    • Redoing figures from Siege I just got
    • Partsforming is apparently acceptable now
...Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed. I'll get OP, Skylynx, maybe the Quints and some overpriced effect parts with free lame Battlemasters, but otherwise I'm punching out of CHUG 'till the next line.

Another thing is Runamok looks like an unfinished prototype.

I can appreciate some of the feelings here. Certainly disappointing to see so many of the characters that we just bought be rolled out again, even if some are improved. Really have no interest in the Battle Masters this time.

Still, Cliffjumper is a fantastic release. Looking forward to Snapdragon. More Micromaster combiners is a good thing.

I initially felt that Hasbro squandered the momentum it had built with Siege on some boring/poor character choices for ER but then I realized not everything they put out will target my interests and that is okay.

It’s okay to be disappointed. Fans just need to have perspective and not make it the end of the world. But hey, feel free to react however you like (I’m being sincere).

That is a good point, it would have been much better if we saw all the figures revealed first.
DAMN RIGHT! He is already on the list for best figure of the year.
I know, right? The Target masters were good (plus that beauty known as Rung) and the creative animal ones. But this time they are all just a road sgements. I refuse to get them so I've decided to just get 2 or 3 Ironworks instead.

Um, this is how the toy business works and will keep on doing the same thing because people vote with their wallets. TF is fortunately a successful franchise.

IMHO, there should be more choices and not less choices. I like how my son will always have plenty of choices.

Optimus Prime is the ultimate example of a figure who gets released with every new toyline, even multiple figures within the same wave. People clearly will keep paying for him over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Partsforming has been around since the very beginning of G1 with Starscream, who sold extremely well, and we just got a giant one last year with Omega Supreme. It's part of Transformers DNA.

There are plenty of other fandoms who can't have arguments like this since they barely get any new toys...if at all. GI Joe fandom must be ecstatic right now from the toy fair news.
