if they can just make the face & chest closer to this, this could be among my favorite MP’s of all time. I’m even more confused now, seeing how much closer to the mark they got those two parts on the cheepo line. crossing my fingers the chest gets a little tweek and Arcee actually has something unprecedented up her sleeve like 5 different faces.
Hasn't been released yet so too early to condemn her. As for not buying her out right and still posting about it, hey, its a free country no?
So.... Can we please keep all the "Earthrise" Arcee talk in the actual thread it belongs in? This is after all, the "MP-51 Arcee" thread is it not? idk. Maybe it's just me.
If the MP was clearly better than the chug, no one would be talking about it here. It’s not like it’s third party, it’s the same company doing a better job on a discount figure than their premium product (that’s doubled in price this year). It ‘s definitely relevant to the MP51 discussion because it boggles the mind!
There’s no way to really determine the quality of MP Arcee without having her in hand, let alone making some comparison between having both in hand. I get that people are soured by the problems with Hound’s release, but until someone can provide a review or some type of in hand critique about MP Arcee, this Earthrise comparison talk is just blowing hot air into the wind.
I agree that the MP has a much harder task due to the transformation and articulation it needs to support, but that still doesn't excuse how much I feel it misses the mark on the face and chest sculpt. I also prefer the Earthrise figure's less human-like waist area, although I really wish it didn't also have a curvy waist at all and had the more squared off shapes present in the animation model. I really dislike how much Hastak (and FansToys for that matter) is trying to reimagine Arcee in a more sexualized manner than she ever was in G1. It's totally appropriate for Blackarachnia given that it's faithful to her animation model, but not Arcee.
Yeah but that’s subjective. I don’t think the ER is better than the MP. But still, I don’t wanna hear about people coming here if they like the ER one. I’m fine that they like that, but that’s not the point here.
But that’s the main issue with the toon direction of the MPs. Arcee’s design is going for broke on her appearance and that is toon. The chest panel isn’t much of an issue for me, but the I need an in hand look of the face. This will be a problem we’ll have when doing more humaniod-shaped transformers. Road Rage was one thing, Arcee’s actual enemy was the 86 movie design. People flipped of over faux parts and partsforming, hence Arcee packing her whole car on her back. There are three ways available for TT to design transformers and none of the methods will please everyone. After taking every mold apart, I’m convinced that TT spent a lot of time at the table discussing the pros and cons of Arcee’s look.
Most of the discussion in this thread is about issues with the face and the chest, the response has been roughly “It looks great, that’s how it’s supposed to look!” A) The current Takara MP line has been heavily toon accurate since MP33 and slavishly toon accurate with the last 3 characters from Prime to Hound. B) ER Arcee is more toon accurate than MP Arcee. C) Didn’t one of the main MP designers move on to ER design? Is there gonna be a quality dip in MP design? C) Are Takara unable to make a toon accurate MP Arcee or is this a new stylized direction coming from a new head engineer? D) How is this not relevant to exactly what we’ve been talking about for 80 pages?
One of the lead MP designers is a super Arcee fanboy who is probably using his position to realize his "perfect" vision of his waifu. That's pretty the entirety of the matter.
Are you just trying to indroduce reason and rational thought into an MP thread? WE DON'T DO THAT HERE SORRY
My bad. I didn’t read the script before replying. I do see how the ER Arcee appeals to certain people enough to give MP Arcee a miss, but the two figures are directed and serves two different functions. I don’t see ER Arcee being more toon than MP Arcee because the aestethics are vastly different. Wait, you’ve warned me about that.
Um, so what? There's enough of a thread to trail back to the source. Even if there's a more complicated story beyond "Hironori Kobayashi did it", it's still a result of his input. Ergo "Hironori Kobayashi did it".
First time I ever dropped a grenade into a thread... oops! The only point I wanted to make, as someone who only collects MP (and 3P because otherwise I would be 105 and not complete my cast), is that the issues that most people have with MP51 are addressed by the ER version. The question, and my reason for posting initially, is why that's even possible? TT are on record as going for toon: But decide that the Masterpiece will look like this: in a bid to capture similar poses... Then the cheaper mainline does this: Remember, the aim is this: And for the avoidance of doubt, I don't give two shits about the backpack. The ER figure gives an option, sure, but I don't really care about it. I'm bothered by the face and the chest (both the position and the shape. Only one of these seems to be a requirement, position...)
But even that isn't what we're getting. The upturned "boobs" on MP51 aren't there or in the toon. Edit: in fact that chest looks more like the ER one...
Oh, and by the way, I'm not saying ER is perfect either, just that it shows where the MP goes wrong, and how it can be improved to better match the source material. The ER face isn't perfect toon, but it isn't as jarring as MP51's either.
