Which is a concern if you are blocking 90% of a thread's contributors because they haven't appeased your Rick and Morty level intellect. Frankly, I think the argument was fine. I think some people involved took it more personal than was warranted, and if that's the case, I don't feel anything but sorry that it was that bad of an experience for them.

Controversy does sell. I'd be curious to see how the kit compares to other releases if it makes it to market.

I'm pretty sure I've said something exactly like this during the Megatronia Legends comic brouhaha, but you don't have to be some puritan who's outraged by anything remotely sexual to think Furai Windblade is weird/dumb. I think @chaosMonkeyPoo is right on the money with regard to this:

While I agree that not many people are offended, some really are. I think people were curious and a bit frustrated by this, because Flame Toys looked like it might cancel the kit. We still have no word on it, but there exist some people who really want to see this kit in the dirt. Personally, I wanted to know why.

This is not offensive. It sells product.

How can you be called "adult" fans if any sexualization is so deeply offensive to you?

Sexuality and its various expressions is a normal, healthy part of being an adult.

Moreover, being attractive is something both genders desire. Do you know the difference between objectification and compliment? As Eliza Schlesinger said: it all depends on how hot the guy who looked at you is! :lol

On the other hand, for guys, I don't think it matters! :lol

This toy is not so bad, folks! The controversy you contribute will make mediocre, insignificant releases all the more legendary and relevant!

Something about straws? I lost track so I'm skimming through the discussion for the shorter posts.

I love Victorion and Megatronia and I'd pay full price and more for both. Heck, give me all the combiners in that anime devs-looking style!!

And if it doesn't make it to market? We've already got people shouting "SJWs!" and "CANCEL CULTURE!" when we don't even know why the pics were pulled down.

    This person gets it.

The biggest hurdle for both will be that they're combiners. So it's going to be hard to ever get them into another toyline unless they do combiners again.

Unless they strip them of the combiner aspect, as we've seen with some homage figures in the past (Classics Silverbolt & Onslaught, for example). Heck, would be one way to bring Offroad, Alpha Bravo, and Rook back.

That random Dead End in the Cyberverse line is one example. Will be interesting to see if they do more of that. As it'd be a great way to work both teams in to the main line more. The funny thing about CW/PotP/UW was besides Megatronia and Victorion everybody else who was made into a combiner was already an existing character in some capacity...or a combiner...so they'd could be brought back without having to get another combiner figure.

I notice people complaining about Windblade not matching FT's style are apparently forgetting just how many people don't like FT's in-house style. Hell, so far FT has had four different Optimus Primes with radically different design aesthetics.

People are obviously going to call a spade a spade. Deleting the pics after such an eruption on twitter is just easy conjecture. No different than when we expect we'll get a Generations Fasttrack when we get a listing for it from Walmart without pics. Don't see a reason here to call people chumps for instantly getting worried when a piece that has faced twitter backlash suddenly gets scrubbed.

So you feel complaining "SJWs!" and "CANCEL CULTURE!" is appropriate? Because I'm not sure what other objects we're calling spades here.

Cool. Add Windblade to the pile of complaints.

People are going to say what they will. It just so happens that a lot of people get defensive when they are afraid that people are going to morally police them over the media they consume, and possibly change it on a fundamental level.

This just seems very circular. To lay it out plainly, many people feel that outrage mobs descend on things they really don't care much about to grab whatever attention they can and ditch the carcass. Whether you agree with that view or not, the call for this Windblade to be canned is sounds eerily like that.

I've not used the term snowflake, sjw, or anything like that this whole discussion. My concern has always been the wrongful stifling of a product that has real buyers. We've gone through the whole song and dance, and a few pages ago, the reason we were given was that women who aren't present need guys to slap down projects like this and the people who defend them. If this is truly the reason, myself and others are very disappointed that such a strange and esoteric reason is being given for why we can't be offered this toy.

I sense a thread lock in the very near future.

This whole thing is giving me terrible deja vu from the Botcon comic from Flamewar and the Megatronia comic that followed. Honestly, controversy aside (though I do feel there are valid points being made about why this thing is bad and I'm in no position to argue it one way or the other from a feminism standpoint), I'd still rather we got something more accurate to her original IDW design than this mess.

The whole thing just seems very confused from a design standpoint, especially next to something like the Rodimus and Optimus Primal they showed off on the same day but that's just me.

Like putting aside the valid complaints about oversexualization and all, this figure doesn't even look to be a good Windblade. Where's her sword? Where's her wings? Where's any hint of a vehicle mode? The other Furai models don't transform, but at least they look like they could.

They better not have cancelled the figure because a few whiny pissbabies had a meltdown.

    I really wanted it.

I'd imagine accessories were not cast for these guys yet. None of the others seem to have armament.

I’m honestly hoping they took the pics down because they’re going to rework the design. I really want a Windblade, just one that looks like, you know, Windblade.

    Worked for Sonic the Hedgehog.

Yeah, that's exactly it! Like, not to poke the bear too much with "salacious discussions" in the thread (aka, a repeat of the aforementioned comic ordeals), but even from that standpoint...it's not good either? It's way too detailed for it's own good, when smoother parts like what their Rodimus/the original design has would work better for that kind of suggestive design work. Sometimes less is more.

I'm very much interested in Rodimus and other models like that but to be honest, overblown as it looks on Twitter sometimes...I have to agree that this is just a bad deal for Windblade and "kind of scummy", at best. Not that you can't have "sexy' TFs, but there has to be some kind of consistency and creativity with it that this thing just sorely lacks. Hell, I've got my qualms with Windblade's original design and the fact that there haven't been any real improvements yet in official media to make her look like a more "integrated" Transformer but this is just a really bad angle to go with her. Especially since this is the first femme Flame Toys has done, compared to all the dude bots who look like proper Transformers.

All of this could've been avoided if they just announced Drift or Springer in a similar style

I wonder if Horror/Friday the 13th fans sooked and cried as much when Kotobukiya released this?

Eh. I'd argue that regarding depictions of the human body as "weird" in the first place stems from the Puritanical roots of North American civilization, that's rather ingrained in our culture regardless if you are actively of Faith or not. That we think of our own bodies as weird or gross or shameful at all comes down to centuries of societal brainwashing and conditioning, for the sake of control.

I doubt we'd be having such heated discussions if we were all in France right now.

And part of the disconnect comes because the attitudes towards human nudity are much different in the West than they are in the East. Most of Japan and some of greater Asia don't have quite the same nudity taboos we have in North America, as they never went through the Christian revolution. Females depicted in scanty dress don't generate the same outrage they do over here (ironically, censorship of full-on nudity tends to be far more strict, as a result of draconian laws). Gurren Lagann was the equivalent of a Saturday morning cartoon in Japan, but was rated for at least teens for North American broadcast, almost purely on the back of Yoko's constant near nudity (and probably some innuendo).
