If that were the case then that is immensely shallow reasoning, and I make zero apologies for judging anyone thusly. I mean if it was for the face then fine, you see something more than what I see, but if it's because of the sticker...

 

I mean, I’m sure the face is what actually makes it Decepticon Megs.

Because this one is angry. >:[ The previous one was more introspective. :| That was actually my main beef with the last one, because you couldn’t pose it dynamically because the expression was too neutral. Which is ironic, because Optimus looked fucking pissed.

I mean, I’m not sure what to tell you. The face is the new thing here, that’s the gimmick. The new sculpt completely changes the character being conveyed, as an expression would. Maybe if it contained more than one new face sculpts, like a grinning or yelling face the purpose would be more extant, but even just as it is the minor change really makes a big difference. Whether or not that difference matters to you is up for debate, but it must work for somebody or else FT wouldn’t have made it.

 

I feel bad for those that got the Autobot version, unsure if a Deception version would be made, and now really dig this face. They either make do with what they have or spend another $50 to get no more than 10g of remoulded plastic and a 5mm square sticker. Flame Toy could have done us all a solid and included both face sculpts and both insignia with the original. This truly is both the laziest/most cynical remould ever and new money for old rope.... and I love what Flames Toys are doing for the most part.

 

Same, I had no interest on an Autobot Megatron but really like the overall design and this new facial expression, I'd definitely pick this up if they ever sold it here.

Were they gonna release a Drift in this scale too? I really wish Flame Toys did their own take on Bludgeon some day.

 

This would have worked for me if it came with a tarn mask for the chest and an alternate smiling face for Autobot Megatron

Yup. That's the thing. I'm sure there are a lot of people who skipped on Autobot Megatron because he was an Autobot. I think this is particularly true for people who are unfamiliar with the IDW run (whether it be something they weren't interested in or wasn't really offered in there area - I'm guessing a lot of Asian countries).

For example, I have friends and family members that collect the Masterpiece line, but would scoff at an Autobot Megatron. So something like this would probably be more up their alley.

There is a Drift Furai model, it came out a little while ago. It's smaller than the Kuro Kara Kuri action figure and more to scale with the other models like this Megatron (and only $50 instead of $300).

Is the faction Ensignia the only difference? If that was bothering people so much, they could’ve just stuck a Decepticon sticker on the Autobot Megatron.

 

Looks good, but I was never into IDW.
I’d like to see what their eventual G1 would look like.

 

Briefly about the alternative version against the canon IDW MTMTE / LL.

 

Dang. I mean, a re-release would be cool, but not as cool as a new mold.

 

I have the IDW Optimus and the Autobot Megatron and I was not impressed. For $50 they dont even compare to the recent HG Mazinger Infinity kits and you can get better Master Grades for $50.

 

Someone at FlameToys probably saw my remarks about how their Wonderfest display was lacking...

"Those Studio Trigger designs for Beast Wars models haven't been prototyped yet!"
"We need to make something!! Quick! Someone give me an idea!"
"Why not put a Decepticon symbol on the Megatron model we already released..?"
"BRILLIANT!"

 

This is a very cool looking design. May be what gets me collecting again.

 

Because he looks cool. What other reason do you need?

 

To be honest though, this should come as no surprise.. I mean, if we got Shattered Glass and Nemesis recolors of the Optimus kits.. a Decepticon symboled Megatron was a no brainer.

In hindsight, it would have been prudent to just include the decal with the original kit, but whatever excuse they need to print new boxart with the "DECEPTICON!" label on the lid...

 

Meanwhile, I'm sitting hear wishing for SG colors or beefcake Megatron.... And waiting for all the previous molds they teased prior.....
