I don't really think the designs are that different?

OK, I don't mean to diss you. You're open-minded at least.

I apprepricate the other side as much as I can.

    But...

Are you telling me that I'm in trouble?

I do not think I'm telling anyone on how they should think. That I'm gonna deny.

For the record, I don't necessarily agree with what Galvatross thinks. But whatever those designs are... They're a part of the Transformer brand that any bitching and moaning can't really undo.

You basically called fans who dislike the AOE hypocrites because they dislike the utter lack of vehicle mode parts on the movie designs as opposed to G1 Cliffjumper’s lack of wheels as if they’re in any way equatable, and then in the face of my explanations to the contrary claimed I was telling you what to think. By following the logic you laid out I made that statement, not because I actually think you’re trying to tell other people what to think, but because you used that as a counter argument when your own rebuttal was deconstructed.

Megatron’s TF1 concept art face disagrees.

Also the point is not to remove these designs from history, but to make it clear we never want anything like them ever again. Let them be a cautionary tale, not an example, for future iterations of the brand. And more topically, to refute the claim that the Bumblebee movie designs are anything like the AOE/TLK designs. (Which is what this discussion started as)

Well... I can't lie. I do find it hypocritical to some degree, at least from how some people say it.

And once again, no... I am not telling you how to think. Can you stop insinuating that I am?

    Otherwise... Are we good now?

Well let's hope they can listen and read what we are writing. That's the problem with movie execs, it's hard to know if they see us do these things.

Isn't that Car windows on his chest, and things that cover the wheel (dunno the name) on his leg (outward, looks kinda curved on the pic)

    Oh, but I did:

    Fair enough.

I've already stated my opinion on comparing them with other transforming robots/toys, so I won't repeat myself.

I think we're just gonna have to agree to disagree on the matter.

You're not saying that the fanbase never wants to see Bay-esque designs again?
Just the ones lacking in kibble, right?

Agreed, I love the Bay designs. Just seems like some people want to complain no matter what. Baffles me.

    Probably yes.

Oh, I'd love to see more of Bay-esque design like Shatter and her partner, tbh :D

The AOE lockdown design in my opinion really good. Yea, I’ll agree with you that you can barely tell he transforms into a car, besides his chest, but for what he was I thought it was a great design

I agree in a way. At least with Shatter and Dropkick, without seeing the movie yet you saw all the right details in the trailers you needed to see that "Oh they turn into that". It's inspiration of the first 3 Bayformers, but also having some coherence to the silhouette like say Movie one Optimus Prime. You can even see their facial expressions, you can tell what emotions they are going through at the moment. It's not just using G1 designs(though IDW has been doing well with taking them and revamping them for a more modern time), it's taking existing characters or new ones, and putting the effort to making them work IRL without over-designing them, which the Bayformers design team gave up on since TF2 when they thought "Let's just add more greebles and metal shards for the villains because EVIL!" They slept on it thinking it didn't really matter.

They still look "alien" in Bumblebee, yet you can see a defined and study body shape and parts from their alt modes to make tail ends of them. (Warning images are a bit big)

Then look at movies 1-5 with the main villains, can you really see what Lockdown or Megatron turned into before the movies had to outright spell it out for you? Lockdown doesn't look like he'll fall apart at the slightest touch sure, but with all the bits hidden in the back he kinda looks like an evil Iron Man.

It really needs to be said, but a Transformer that doesn't have a sure way to tell what their function is or a defining feature, if you are a new fan or an older fan, then it's just another transforming robot.

G1 Megatron, Ultra Magnus, Springer and Arcee, to name a few, weren't easily identifiable of what they transformed into though were they?

I agree, their designs were great!

And I may be a little biased towards muscle car-formers :p

I mean, are you really going to compare a high budget movie with a low budget, old, 30 mins toys commercial?

That's the standard defense I've noticed when it comes to people criticizing movie designs.

Because it makes all the sense in the world for people to decry wanting stuff similar to the G1 designs...yet point out flaws with the movie ones and suddenly those get excused because of designs made almost 40 years ago to a completely different set of standards and objectives.

The poster made an incorrect comment in relation to characters not being recognizable of what they transformed into even though that happened in G1. What also happened in G1 was there were characters, like the Bay movies, that were easily identifiable as to what they transformed into. It's incorrect to say it's solely a Bay thing. That's my point that might have been missed.

The Bay designs rock imo. Only design I probably didn't love was Galvatron but everyone else I really liked. The Bay movies changed in AOE to cater to the people upset about movies 1-3 designs and they still weren't happy even though AOE was way more G1 inspired in design particularly in the faces. Baffles me how people cry over Bay designs but fawn over the Travis Knight designs.

A part of me really feels like this whole "going full blown g1" route is really going to backfire. There is a large group of people out here that don't use internet boards, don't comment their thoughts on youtube videos, and are too busy to care about stuff like that. But they still enjoy going to see films. And almost everyone I know who is not a die hard transformer fan like the rest of us here, had absolutely no problem with the designs, it was the story, that ruined the film experience.

All Im saying is I get it, g1 fans haven't gotten a real film ever, (well besides bee now) and they absolutely hate bay's designs, for whatever reason that may be. There is no point debating a simple fact that they hate them, and nothing will convince them otherwise. All I am saying is I know a lot of people did not go to see bumblebee because they thought it was a kids movie (and not like just a pg13 flick like a legit dora the explorer pg movie), obviously it wasn't. But I feel people really liked the whole alien yet visually stunning aspect of the bay films, along with all the warfare, and stylization in it. Oh and another thing, people like beautitful woman, trust me, you have no idea how many guys I have talked to who saw transformers just because of the girls.
So, like I said, I feel the studio going balls deep into g1, might not be the greatest idea, and I do feel there needs to be some sort of balance to it.
Oh, and I like g1 designs. Personally, i just perfer bay's versions. And have never really had a problem with them.

I mean, G1 got lot of pass because they're basically 30 min of mish-mash toy commercial, but Bay movies are not. They're supposed to be a high budget action movie. That's why I don't get why people compare this to G1 cartoon.

Are you sure about that? Not to knock you but...

While Magnus wasn't totally obvious you can see how the loader works for both his missiles and the "armor" that covers the white cab inside.

Again we are going by their initial appearance in the show and the movie that are still being referenced to this day. So...

Megatron is probably the worst of that bunch in so far as Earth modes go simply because his gun mode has the silencer and extended stock parts which are not part of robot mode, but also because the cartoon design deviates HEAVILY from the toy which has far more obvious gun kibble like the trigger assembly crotch.

It's also important to keep in mind that his signature fusion cannon is NOT the hand gun's barrel - it's the gun scope.
