You know I think you're right, its been quietly bugging me... it is too large, it's surprising for TT actually because... shock horror it's not show accurate!!! It was a lot smaller in the show. It's a shame it can't flatten/shrink it down at least a bit. I do wonder if the size of the head was a big reason why that had to change the transformation scheme so much from Cheetor, it just wasn't going to fit inside the chest like Cheetors did. However I've come to the decision I'm fine with it as a necessary compromise, especially seeing as the Cheetor solution had its issues (bent/damaged whiskers). On a side note It would have been nice if the whiskers on both folded away/were removable in some way or we had a whisker-less head to swap out in robot mode.
You vastly underestimate the design process if you think a rough 3D model represents any significant design progress. You can't seriously think that MPM-9 Bumblebee was a cakewalk to design because they previously made MP-21, can you? Tigatron was designed from the ground-up, with no carry-over engineering from Cheetor. You don't call that anything. It's not a retool, remold, modification, whatever. It's a brand new toy, that just happens to superficially resemble another toy, in the exact same way that MP-44 is not of any relation to MP-10.
Yes its larger than Cheetor. Yes it is being manufactured three years later. Yes costs of manufacturing increases over time. However, you seem to be engaging in very selective "analysis" in this instance given the three years prior to Cheetor being released we simply didn't experience anything near this rate of price inflation for masterpiece figures so in order to substantiate your hypothesis/theory that the significance of the recent price inflation is caused by increases in manufacturing costs perhaps you have the relevant data from the past six years so we can verify this?
I almost want to buy a second Cheetor...almost... I loved the “big cat/little cat” banter between the two characters. Would be cool to have a second Cheetor to stay in beast mode alongside my second Tigatron.
I enjoyed the discussion of figuring out how the figure would transform, but the dispute over retool and remold etc etc is kinda taking the fun out of it a little. Can't we all just be happy that Tigatron is being made into an MP, regardles of how TT are doing it?
I throw my hand up as being partly responsible for said chevaline paste, however in my defence I did start by saying it doesn't matter... Apparently it matters a great deal to one or two posters. I apologise profusely for my part in retool-gate. I'll also add that I've been recovering from heading a wisdom tooth extracted so have had little else to do with my time. Excuses...excuses.
Why are you comparing MPM-9 (Jazz) with MP-21 Bumble? MPM-3 is the VW Beetle, and though both MPM-3 and MP-21 have the same alt mode, they transform very differently. MP Cheetor and MP Tigatron, have a lot of similarities. Problem is people are using "terms" that don't define that similarity that they are trying to convey.
I suggested digital redesign, and I thought we were happy with that. It seems to convey what we all agree is what happened. They digitally redesigned cheetor's model. I think everyone agrees on that, so let's just go with this...
We could all just give up the damn fight and be happy that were getting one of the finest looking BWMP figures to date. Let's just hope the QC department doesn't throw the ball out of the court like MP47.
I know this and have done it. It looks ok but for me at least the gaps it leaves are enough to make him look a bit hollow and not as good as he does with the head still in place.
Wow I had no idea they had a proprietary secret modeling process... Thanks for the insight, it really would be cool if they did let us know how they ported these over to a modern-day OS and program. These guys really are geniuses, I've hated BW my whole life but I can really appreciate all these pieces as modern day artworks, they are sadly (for me) trumping the G1 offerings in terms of likeness at the moment. Tigerton's head sculpt is impeccable. Exactly this.. all brand new engineering, all brand new steel molds, just a small number of digital assets from Cheetor taken and highly modified to speed up the design process and keep some uniformity in their common features. Its been a big mobius strip haha. It's strange they didn't display him with the dedicated BW stand, I wonder if they have abandoned that idea
It'd be awesome if they could have found some way to collapse the head a bit. Like have his ears in a slot that moves forward a bit and then the fluffy parts on the back fold into the head. Just something to make it not protrude so much. In any case, I'm still pretty excited for him. It's a good time to be a Beast Wars fan. We've got a movie coming, the best masterpiece figures in the line, and 3rd party is starting to make chug and masterpiece figures. I mean think about it, we've got 3 different companies with their own dragon Megatrons, a Tigerhawk figure in the works and a chug TM Megs, Blackarachnia, and Rattrap. Even the KO figures are pretty high quality. And then next year we've got our 25th anniversary.
