Further reading into this, it sounds like this lawsuit may be outside of the Sunbow / BMI one mentioned on Seibertron.

Odd that if there was any issue over the intro music, why was it still intact for the DVD episodes from Shout?

Still an interesting take on why we got that slightly different version of the theme on this vinyl.

 

So... Should we abandon the idea of seeing a release on CD or mp3?

Well if you want a lossless rip from the record, that's been out for a while now. Not legal mind you. But it's an option.

 

Better off listening and getting them from youtube in digital format. You can stream on your phone, download to your device, listen in your car etc. Much more convenient

Season 1
The YouTuber once had a premade playlist but I don't see it anymore. All the Season 1 tracks are scattered among his entire video collection. You'll have
to go through them yourself and create your own Season 1 playlist for convenience. Here's one of the S1 tracks so you'll know what the thumbnail image looks like (looks just like the thumbnail for the S2 tracks):

Season 2 Playlist (many of the tracks also were used in GI Joe). Oddly the premade playlist is now gone. All the S2 tracks are present bust mixed into the list of all videos. Luckily I saved this playlist before it disappeared. I recommend doing the same for this or any other playlists.

Hooray for necrobumps!

A music site that I visit has recently had several Transformers albums posted up, mostly in lossless fomats. I'm not giving out links or anything, but I DO want to share something about this album that I discovered there via another member's vinyl rip:

Four of the tracks on the album are longer than the ones on my own copy (1st release Optimus colors.) I'm hoping to hear back from the member who posted it, regarding his source. Here's a screenshot of the four tracks, laid alongside each other in the mixing program I use.



In each case, the shorter tracks (ones with an arrow just before the title) are from my 1st release copy. The longer tracks (with the 45 adapter icon - props to those of you who actually understand that reference, lol) are from the as-yet-unnamed source of the recent upload. Disregard the differences in volume, that's all my doing (I like to EQ and compress some music for the car). But you can clearly see how most of these are nearly twice as long as the "original". I'll post again as soon as I can verify the source, but it's cool and weird at the same time.

 

Is it easy for old luddites like me to rip the tracks?

 

Now that's interesting. I have a first press Megatron and have the same track lengths as you. I had a thought that maybe whomever did the vinyl rip may have accidentally combined two tracks, but I'm not seeing it (loose check on my end though, not scientific). I am now curious if the second run is a different master than the first or the poster on that other site has a different source for the material entirely.

 

All you really need is a turntable with a USB connection to your computer & some recording software like Audacity. But, if you have one of the later releases (if so, which one?), you could just listen to those 4 tracks & time them to see which version in my picture they're closest to.

I've run through all 40 tracks & those 4 are the only ones that were different by more than a few seconds. I've also sent a message to Enjoy The Ride, asking if there were any changes in later pressings. Hopefully either ETR or the person who uploaded this "newer" version will reply soon.

I don't own the vinyl to compare, but I've noticed Hasbro officially putting clips of the G1 music onto YouTube recently (Soundtrack Saturdays). Could these be extended cuts of the versions on the actual album, and someone has edited those longer tracks into the album before uploading it to the site you visited?

 

I actually noticed "Soundtrack Saturdays" as I was looking through search results here trying to find this thread again. I just found this one there which contains "Cybertron Sorrow", "The Bridge to Iacon", and "Prepare", but it seems to have a lot of missing audio in it. The first 18 seconds are silent, then "The Bridge to Iacon" plays, then silence again for the rest of the video.

 

So not even a clue as to where to find these wonderful tracks?

Well, unfortunately the person who posted the vinyl rip didn't actually create the rip himself. If anyone owns the reissued version(s), I'd love to know the running times of those 4 tracks. If they are indeed longer, I'd certainly buy a 2nd copy.

 

So I had a chance to listen to the tracks that are different and compared it with my vinyl 1st edition pressing, and I've noticed something: The "missing" parts have a different fidelity than the rest of the track. The soundstage is more narrow (nearing mono in a couple of tracks) with some fluctuating stereo separation (track 6 especially) that may be indicative of noise reduction or tape degradation; they don't sound like they're from the same mastering.

My guess is maybe a fan edit to elongate the tracks to "restore" them to what they should be by using other sources (like the recreation). There's also a slim possibility that they are earlier masterings that later had the "different" parts of the tracks purged for sound consistency, but the chances of that are likely slim.

That said, I too would like to hear from anyone that has the second pressing. If my analysis is wrong, I will gladly buy a second copy for a few more seconds of music.

I guess I didn't phrase that right. Was interested in downloading/converting tracks, so that I could put them on CD.

 

I have a second pressing (the Starscream version) but I don't have a computer tied into my turntable (it's a SONY from 2004). So no, I wouldn't be able to confirm wavelengths. But I could confirm timing. If I have time, I'll give it a spin when I get home.

 

Yeah, I noticed that today as I listened in my car at louder volume. I think your guess about a fan edit is most likely correct.

Most browsers have built-in download managers, you just need to tell it which folder you want files saved to.
As for converting, look at programs like Foobar or Audacity, they have various codecs to let you convert to WAV format, which is what you'd want to burn to a CD.

Thanks! I'm not hopeful, considering ETR's response and TealShark's observations, but it'd be nice to know for sure.
